@ParadoxOfChaos A girl-crazy kid I used to work with proudly adopted Weird Al's version as his personal theme song. lol Now Hicks' song reminds me of Weird Al's version and so both remind me of that kid.
@jge26 Taylor's been touring pretty much nonstop for 5 years, with a break to do Grease on Broadway. He's written an autobiography, issued a concert DVD and released an "Early Works' CD of pre-Idol music and 2 CDs of new music since Idol. He's opening up his own restaurant in Birmingham in May and started his own record label last year "Modern Whomp Records". He'll be on the road again in May. Catch it if you can! He's tremendous live!

@ithinkpigsarecool except this season is drawing the same viewers as last year, even with the changes. Season Five was the most viewed and hottest draw. It also owns the record on the Idol Tour. Go watch some of the vids from that tour. People certainly loved their winner!

Hicks excels at what I call "note bending". Don't know the actual term in the industry, anybody? Like my take. Anyhow Hicks really gets going when choir comes out. Awesome head wagging, cool effect on the ears, and visually as well. "Stronger than I've ever been, yeaeeeeha" cream of the perf. Still feel Tonite Show perf with Hicks was best of the lot. Spare arrangement, good sax, LOTS of note bending galore and Hicks pulls out all the stops in the final notes. Tiramisu!
It's called vibrato, and it is usually used by people who can not hold a perfect pitch. It is great for covering up flaws in vocals. That is why you see it on American Idol all the time.

You must be talking about something completely different, since vibrato is a recognized part of singing. Opera is a perfect example. You cannot cover up flaws within vibrato, since vibrato only changes the frequency (or waiver) of the note- not the actual pitch. Either you can hit the note or you can't - natural vibrato cannot mask that.
i voted for him the whole four hours, and I've never jumped so high when he won, he was the first person I saw in concert, I cried, I was so close, he spit on me, haha.
This song was actually written FOR Elliot Yamin but since he got eliminated and since Taylor didnt like the song he was given, he was free to sing Elliot's song and did a good job.

You must be talking about something completely different, since vibrato is a recognized part of singing. Opera is a perfect example. You cannot cover up flaws within vibrato, since vibrato only changes the frequency (or waiver) of the note- not the actual pitch. Either you can hit the note or you can't - natural vibrato cannot mask that.

This song was actually written FOR Elliot Yamin but since he got eliminated and since Taylor didnt like the song he was given, he was free to sing Elliot's song and did a good job.
