Oh... if you do try my tip, thin the Rit with rubbing alcohol and not water. Water takes too long to dry and raises the grain of the wood. Alcohol dries VERY fast and does not make the wood all raped.

For a very authentic Soviet style finish... use Rit clothing dye (Scarlet, Yellow, and Tan mixed to a rusty iodine color) Use it on the wood, then instead of linseedm use Tung Oil. The Tung will take about three coats but it soaks into the wood and gives a hard finish that resists everything from water to bumps. Just a friendly tip...I finish AK stocks all the time.

@cokeman2423 Yeah, it comes in liquid bottles or powder... both work, but get the liquid if you can. The powder works it's just a pain in the ass and has salt in it. Both work.. I ended up doing my last one with a mixture of both because I couldn't find yellow liquid. This should turn out like the Russian AKMs you see with that dark Iodine color. When you put it on wood it will look kinda on the red side... you might want some brown Rit to darken to your liking... I ended up using Oak stain...

AHHHH im refinishing my WASR 10/63 too FAGGOT! I know you hate those Romanians but mine is a quality one cause i didnt get it online. GET RAPED.

I just sanded mine with 320 then 600 grit paper then slapped some minnwax red mahogany on there and now im waitin for the polyurethane to dry then gonna take some 1500 grit to it and a tack cloth. gonna look PURDY PURDY.

Instead of BLO you might want to try a poly finish.

I have a Yugo fixed stock and a GP1975 with a romy G set.

Yugo was finished in Tung oil and romy in poly. The tung oil is nice but the poly really holds up to the abuse my ak has been through.

If you do refinish the romy set try Zinsser refinisher. It stripped my romy set of cosmo and old finish faster than a raped ape and does not harm wood grain / laminate layers.
