My mother watched The West Wing when it first aired on TV. I was too young at the time and have recently started watching it, finished Season 1 online two nights ago. Waiting to watch the rest as I know I'm getting the boxset for Christmas. This was on of my favourite scenes and I had to come and find it on here. It's so hard trying to find my favourite Season 1 clips and avoid spoilers lol Can I just say how much I <3 this show!
But would it be remotely possible to get a hold of this song somehow? I searched under the name Ronnie Jordan and couldn't find anything. Could someone help me out? Cause this piece of music is very funky indeed.
Superb. Great show. Great writing, with some peerless human touches, like CJ's 'The Jackal' being reasons why this show, quite simply had no equal. Janney looks totally enchanting. 'Never talk to me during The Jackal!"
They have so much fun in the White House... at least on this show. Sometimes I want to go into politics because I think about The West Wing and how much I want to be a part of it, and then I realize that real life probably isn't like that. So I decided to be an actor instead.
Ohh... Im sorry for what I said, then. I did overreact, and am sincerely apologetic. I still think your nucking futs though, cause I just find this brilliant :P
I will now go outside, turn thrice, spit and curse. ^_^
I love TWW, love Sorkin and love CJ but her performance of The Jackal is embarrassing. It's a great song, but to me this is an example of white folks trying to be cool that just falls flat.
@ameroux This scene isn't about white v black - it's about old v young. CJ is a woman of a certain age who nevertheless knows how to let her hair down, and is pretty damn sexy. Toby enjoys his greater seniority to Josh, and Leo enjoys making Sam sweat over his daughter. Sam and Josh feel they have to be cool, but are embarrassing dancers. It's the older generation in Toby and Leo who are cool, not by moving around, but just watching and relishing it.
That fade-out to the overhead of the White House as CJ ends the song and tails off with her signature wild giggle is simply one of the most epic bits of editing I've ever seen. :D
On the set of the series one day, Allison Janney was entertaining the cast and crew by lip-synching to an obscure spoken jazz piece called "The Jackal", by Ronnie Jordan. Aaron Sorkin liked it so much that he wrote it into the next episode of the show ("Six Meetings Before Lunch season 1") as a ritual of C.J.'s.
This is HANDS DOWN my favorite scene of The West Wing, but as much as I like him, Rob Lowe ruined it by doing those white-homey moves at the end. Sad. Love it, though! Allison Janney, I know this world is killin' you, ooh but my aim is true in this scene!
This is one of the most awesome funny scenes in the show. I don't know why, but there's something just so lovable about the idea of the staff celebrating a court appointment like that...as a ritual. So, well, human.
When they had her do it the first time, she did it too well, and they asked her to do it over again sillier and laughing embarassed, so that it would fit her character.
by far my fav character! she's awesome! I'm currently watching the west wing for the first time (i know i should hide from the shame) but i love it. Thank the lord for box sets. Season 4 almost done. Quality! :-)
funny thing is it was actually inspired by Alisson Janney. She lip synched in her trailor, and fellow cast and crew loved it so much they found a way to write it in the show.
