OK, I have a video I created when using windows. I am now under ubuntu and when I play the vid, there is no sound. the sound file is in ac3 format and I cannot find any way to convert to wav or mp3 so I can re merge the audio with the video. could you help? I am not too good with ubuntu as I haven't been using it long

@binkiie4dictator open up your package manager (software center, synaptic) and install ubuntu-restricted-extras this should give you all the codecs for wav and such

@gotbletu Its ok, i found a way, i opened the ac3 file up in audacity and then saved as a wav file, then added the wav to the video in pitivi video editor, job done, thanks for the info though, will do that anyway for the future

@SirRoachtokeMacPuff Jaunty is not supported anymore maybe thats why ur getting errors, u could use other mirror servers. Search of End of Life Ubuntu Repository on the net and they will show you how to do it. Otherwise u can update to a newer release like 10.04 and up

I installed this on Ubuntu 11.04 and the interface text ( File Edit and Help) are all missing ,so i can not change any settings and not sure what folder the converted files are saved to. Weird.. Any idea why those would be missing? I have quad core amd phenom ,4gb memory,ati 4850 video card. Everything else seems to be working fine on ubuntu.

when you go to the menu that has the option to choose the type you want to convert it, in your case mp3 is clicked in my case the mp3 is not even highlighted..... see 2.05....
