  • I can't imagine hearing the rumble of 50 B-17's flying on a bombing run.

  • Yer average Lancaster was never seen.

  • Nice target to shoot?! WTF! I think you would be a nice little target to shoot . Dipshit. In fact I'd like to use one of the B-17s guns to do the honors.

  • They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. That's crap! If a woman could have a B-17 or a Mosquito fly above me i would throw myself at her feet!!!

  • my grandfather was a top turret gunner....388th BG Block H

  • hibby

  • My grandfather was the co-pilot in a B-17 and got shot down over germany but survived and saved everyone but the pilot, he was a great man and i will forever miss him

  • my great grandpa flew one of these...

  • awesome!!!

  • vean el min 1:40 otro avion volando ????'

  • My grandfather flew a B-17 in WWII. He got shot down over France and went into the French Underground. He survived and formed AFEES (Air Force Evasion Escapee Society) in the mid 60s. By the way, he's still alive at the bright age of 89.

  • Love the sound of those American made radial engines! :)

  • its almost as if Van go and Monet sat down together and painted a video

  • That is not something I wanna see flying over head even now. Man im glad that bird is on our side

  • @rynstrss i got to fly one back in january in kissimme fla

  • i never thouht that planes ships tanks are treated like real girls:) i dont understand why please explain to me too:/

  • @xazoulini1 you must know some pretty privileged girls...i'm pretty sure most guys treat their plane/car/boat/tank better than they do their own wife/gf. i mean, i don't expect my plane to make me a sandwich. but i do expect someone to g into the galley and make me one.

  • My Dad was a ball-turret gunner, flying out of southern Italy in early 1944 (50 combat sortees). What a airplane that was. I had the honor of touring and flying in one a couple of years ago (Tail #909, - Collings Foundation - please support these guys if they come around). Ripped my heart out to actually fly in one of those ships. God Bless those flyers of the 15th and 8th AAF...

  • this plane must be same feeling for you, like the crocodile-lokomotive of our switzerland (:

  • The Lockheed AC-130U Spooky is the new B-17 flying fortress

  • deejakway... I wept when I read your post. My grandfather owns the P-51 Mustang which he flew in the Pacific in WWII. My most heartfelt sympathy, but yet my most high adorations for your grandfather. May he Rest in Peace, and may your family rejoice in knowing that he was honored by God for his committment to what he did for America and what he did while he served.

  • I was lucky to have flown in one of those a few years ago. A great experience if you get the chance!

  • two of these hit each other while flying in formation returning from a bombing run in 1944.happened not far from me on canvey island here in england, they crashed and sadly some of the guys were killed.we have a memorial plaque here in rememberance of these brave men.

  • For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God(Romans 3:23). The wages of sin is death(Romans 6:23). Repent or perish(Luke 13:5)! For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved(John 3:17). As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live(Ezekiel 33:10). TURN FROM YOUR SINS AND SUBMIT 2 JESUS CHRIST NOW OR BURN IN HELL! Proverbs 29:1

  • @over9000christian Your Point..? I guess you should cast stones, since you've not sinned..?

  • I believe this is the Sentimental Journey. If so, this B-17 never saw combat. I have toured this one among others. She is an amazing plane to walk through. How the boys that flew them into combat is just awesome. We owe everything we have to that generation of men. Thanks to all who served and still do.

  • man that thing is big and scary flying alone. imagine seeing the sky full of them?

  • A truely great aircraft if it had not been for the B17 I and my generation would not be here. Pity it did not have the bomb load of the Lancaster.

  • @bigcat178 Did not have as much pay load as a Lancaster because the 17 had more airmen on board and ammunition for their guns.

  • anyone who states its makes the lanc look a bit crap is some sort of thicko who thinks americans won the war by themselves

  • I think it's a bit naff to say it makes the Lancaster look crap! They both had their place and their role to play, both very important WWII planes.

  • Makes the Lancaster look like crap. Sorry, but it does.

  • ya, but the british dont think so. besides , this thing could carry very few bombs, but it did great. the lancaster was a little the same but the b-17 was built for speed, thats why the body is so empty. they put everthing on the inside, notice how streamlined it is.

  • I have a son who is 25 and I marvel everytime I think about those young guys who flew these airplanes in WW2. Quite a few of them were younger, particularly among the other crew members. Very brave lads.

  • yep, this is before we had elactronics, or anything else. the landing gear hyd. pressure went down, you had to hand pump it. they took direct hits and some still made it home. if we used todays pilots and crew, we would have been slautered. they didnt have the technology, but they sure had the strength and determination.

  • shiny !!! i like shiny

  • magnificant aircraft true courage

  • She's beautifull isn't she ?

  • @tenorismo very

  • @tenorismo

yes is very nice...nice target to shoot

  • @tenorismo - Yeah, she sure is.

  • very nice plane. There is a veteran in my town that used to test bombers but probably not flying fortresess. I have heard that without full throttle the thing just falls strait out the sky

  • RPMs in a B-17 can be reduced to around 1250-1300 for maximum long range performance, full throttle normally can't be sustained over six or seven minutes if the manifold pressure is over 42 inches.

  • The full throttle thing is not correct, because there are several stories of B-17s returning to base with just one engine during WWII.

  • They returned light, they had left HEAVY with bombs and all.

  • There's been alot of cases where they would come back with engines shot up and not working....so if it needed all 4 engines full power this wouldn't really be possible...Would it. No one would fly anything that was all or nothing....

  • hey my great uncle was a p-51 mustage piolet and shot down 2 me-109's but u know what i think he escorted one mission of these bombers before. Not sure tho

  • i was in that one plain last sat

  • My grandfather was top turret gunner in a B-17G he died before i knew him but his journal has an amazing story of his life and pics of his time in the service

  • id love to hear about his experiences

  • @deejakway my grandpa was a pilot of one of these in WWII. he was able to land the thing without the landing gear once.

  • what a sweet classic sound. music to my ears.

  • amen brotha lol

  • Awesome. My grandfather was the belly gunner on a B-17 during WWII. Shot down twice and lived and made it back to allied forces both times. I love this plane.

  • tell your grandfater i said thank you for is service during ww2.i really wish i could thank every veteran from every war

  • BEAUTIFUL.

  • id just like 2 point out its sunderland airshow not newcastle. newcastle is 10 mile up the road.

  • New Castle County, Delaware, U.S.A. Fifty miles North of Dover, Delaware A.F.B. and just outside of Wilmington, Delaware-- a.k.a. -- The chemical capitol of the World -- home of the duPont Company. You may have heard of them.

  • What a beautiful sound of those prop engines .. really takes one back to the pre-jet age. What type of engine actually powered the B-17 .. Pratt & Whitneys or Wright Cyclones ? or some other engine-design ? I think I heard the commentator state (amongst all of the background noise) that these were Wright Cyclones.

  • The production version of the B-17 was powered by 4 Wright Cyclone turbocharged radial engines. The prototype that the military approved was initially powered by 4 Pratt & Whitney radial engines but the Wright Cyclone engine was found to be more powerful allowing for longer range & a larger bomb load.

  • I've been inside a B-17 at the Indy Airshow. Those things are surprisingly tiny. For example, it had two mock 500lb bombs inside the bomb bay, and the walkway through it was only about 6inches across, the room itself being 4-5 ft long. And thats the largest room on the plane.

  • thats why theyre called bombers... so most of its space is for bombs

  • the flying fortress is the symbol of my heart lol!!!

  • Beautiful sound from the engines.

  • My grandfather's crew was fighting a bf109 and a FW190 when they crashlanded coming home from Schweinfurt 14 Oct 1943. Bombardier told me that the 190 came in head-on and he could see pieces of the cowl flying off and an exposed piston for the split second they slugged it out, with the plexiglass exploding all around him. GF--left waist gunner--was hit in the head by a piece of exploding 20mm. Both said really scared the gunners was the flak because they could do nothing about it.

  • great shot, imagine what the Germans were feeling when they heard that sound.

  • they probably never even heard it. high altitude bombing

  • we could also imagine the horror as it fell from the sky in flames, after it been hunted by Focke-wulfs190

  • yeah or better yet bf-109s. bf-109s performed excellent at high altitudes

  • no amy, it was the russians taht raped the young german children

  • Cool to think it was B-17s and all the Allied pilots of those planes that ultimately crushed the German war machine!

  • actually it was the russians that crushed the germans

  • The Russians finished the job (after) the Allies bombed the holy crap out of Germany, for weeks on end, thus crippling the Germans ability to produce. The Glorius Russians, then mopped up!

  • then why was production higher towards end of war then at begining. bomb at night, rebuid during day

  • hmmm you sure? above 90% of all german military in WW2 were killed by russians. do a little research

  • that looks abit like sally b lol now she a little baby

  • Thank you to all the Men who flew in those B17 during WW2 Thank you for your bravery.

  • I have my grandfathers B-17 WW2 *th Airforce Patch Tattoed on my back to honor B-17 Pilots and members.

  • Excellent video. Scattered clouds provide a good contrast. First rate!

  • great shooting - very little camera shake and kept central

I have flown on this 17 -pilot seems to like kicking in rudder to make it sideslip OR a strong crosswind

    way cool

  • If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going!

  • same with me

  • wow!!

  • ilike b17s also good view of it i wouldn't be able to video that
