  • im wearing a g string but enough about me...savage tune!

  • this is one of my faves, so smooth !!!

  • Love the way Donal Lunny looks at him at 0:40 "Hey, where you going with this?"

  • I don't understand HOW people can "thumb down" this kind of video. The music is so beautiful !

  • very lovely indeed*****

  • yeah, me too, return here again and again...

  • This is just so lovely, i come back to it over and over :)

  • Ale wypas ! Wokal jest tu zbędny - flet wymiata

  • @gentos91

  • Sportin Paddy, no?

  • brilliant top draw but its hard to look cool playin a whistle no dowt about it he is very very very gooooooooooooooooood.

  • Is that Bill Bailey on Bass?

  • hehe :) nice1

  • yep

  • super

  • It looks like a kerry pro F

  • yes, that or an overton. I'm not sure how the spacing is on the Kerry Pro F, but this could also be an Overton, based how far apart the first and second holes look to be. Oh well, Kerry Pro and Overton are identical in sound and aesthetic anyway. Either way, great whistle.

  • I just found out from the goldies that this is a Bernard Overton F, with an external tuning slide added by cillian o'brian. Hope that helps!

  • This is probably what you hear when you enter the Pearly Gates when you pass over to the other side.

  • no. that's harps. Try the bumblebees instead! lol!

  • As played by Derek Bell.

  • Indeed. he was great!

  • I confirm it is a low F

  • It is an F whistle. The song is in C minor, which is A minor on an F whistle.

  • This is a set of tunes, not a song

  • It's a reel followed by an air, which is not a "set of tunes" in my book. Song is not correct either, I'll admit.

  • Isn't an air a tune too?

  • i'm in love XD

  • it matches my low g but dose look longer for some reason

  • the second part of this is really something verry special!

  • the road to god!

  • Does anyone know the name of the tunes Cormac is playing?

  • The tunes are Sporting Paddy, a traditional tune, and Adele, an air Cormac wrote for his wife. They're being played on a low F.

  • Which key is this whistle in?

  • I'm fairly sure its in the Key of D

  • I think it's a low G whistle.

  • I think its that too i can hit most of the notes when i am trying to follow along (not very well but i try)

  • @feilimb

No, it is low whistle in F

  • @feilimb Too short for a D, probably F

  • I think this is an A whistle, actually.

  • well i know its an F actually ahaha

  • Is he playing the flute or the recorder or what?!?! it's like a straight flute!!! i don't know what it is!!! help someone!!!!!

  • It is called a low whistle!

  • the bass!

  • Beautiful - absolutely flawless.

    Strikes a chord.

  • cormac is fantastic ...got 1 of his cds recently ...amazing!

  • fantastic. he makes me want to sell my whistles and give up trying lol

  • thanks buddy

  • what's the instrument that's being played by the long-haired guy?

  • The long haired guy is Steve Cooney... and it looks like Hohner or Steinberger Bass to me..maybe fretless ... & being played with a nice digeridoo feel !!

  • headless bass. has frets though

  • ich höre viel Flötenmusik ,aber das hier ist wohl das beste was ich bisher zu hören bekam

  • I'm writing an Irish fusion essay and all these Cormac Breatnach pieces would be PERFECT, but I don't know the names of any of them so I can't use them!

  • I'm pretty sure it's a tuneable Overton F. The shape of the mouthpiece gives it away.

Bear in mind that this footage comes from around '97 or so (when TnaG first went on air and before it changed its name to TG4). Overtons were (and many would say still are) THE low whistle to play at the time.

  • Cormac is so cool! He looks like New York ganster! lol jk

  • Cormac is great and I have most of his albums, but Mike McGoldrick can do everything he can and more. Mike, unfortunately, does not play the full repertoire of tunes that he has.

  • increïble

  • It's an Overton.

Funny to see the old Teilifís na Gaeilge logo on the screen...

  • And how in your wisdom did you figure that out ? (Just out of interest of course ;))

Oh and while your at it what key is it in ?

  • its F. definatly F.

  • Looks like a Chieftain to me.

  • yep, Bernard Overton Low F, tuning slide added by Cillian OBriain.

  • Píosa iontach gan amhras, draíocht ag baint leis.

  • Can anyone tell if he's playing an overton tunable or kerrypro?

  • Wonderful video and enormous musicians.

    Thanks feilimb for post it!

    :-)

  • oupala, ça cause là !

  • @Duck - this video is from TG4 in 1997

  • you know, he could very well be the best low whistle player i have ever seen. ever. and i have seen a few.

  • Wonderful.

Do you know how old this video is?

  • what planet is cormac from? excellent stuff.

  • great stuff this guy is the best

  • incredible, found Cormac when searching for Donal Lunny clips, awesome!

  • Thankyou for this wonderful video
