I don't get why she says at the beginning that she is not gay or pregnant. Obviously, I get why she says that she's not preg, but the lesbo part, how does that make you amenorrhoeic?
I hate being anorexic with bulimic tendencies. Instead of going to dances or competing or coloring books or eating good food thats healthy, I have to run, lift weights, and step on the weight scale. I wish i could just eat a god damn meal without thinking about the calories or fat or ANTYHING.....but i can't. I just...can't. and i hate it. Could someone please help me?
@TheSkatingGirlDream Honestly, I don't see why you need help, as being thin is fantastic. However, if you really want to, then eat that god damn meal and then work it off for an hour or two.
AND if you MUST insist...tell your parents or someone, and take yourself to a doctor.
I actually like the psychologist in this one. I think in some of the other ED movies, the psychologists are always a little overbearing or one-sided...

I haven't seen the rest of the movie, but from what I've seen so far, the people who hate her father need to lay off a little. -___- He obviously just doesn't understand what's going on and when people don't understand something they get scared and he's terrified. His daughter is wasting away before his eyes and he feels like he's failed as a father to protect her, so his response is to try and take charge and "fix" her himself. It's not his fault. He's not evil. He's just a human being. God.
My mothers father was far worse than this man here and so it really gets to me when I see people like this person treating their children in such a way. Seriously why have kids if you just want them to be perfect or invisible? He also says "it was like she never there" later on in the movie. Imagine that! Being told your non existent by your own father. Even though my grandad was abusive and horrible + my grandma did nothing to help at least my mother was acknowledged in some way! I'm done.

He's not perfect, but that doesn't make him a bad person. He wasn't abusing her. He didn't intend any pain that he brought upon her. He was doing what he thought was best. The lack of willingness to give his character human attributes (namely a multi-faceted personality and an inclination towards faults) really speaks to the black and white scope of the world that people seem to be focused on in these comments.
Also, if you want to pray for someone's prospective children, pray for your own. You obviously lack the ability to understand that people aren't perfect, which is ironic considering that such a viewpoint would probably drive your kids to self-destructive avenues that are similar to what this poor young girl did in their quest to always be your precious little angels.

This movie was made in 1981, all the stats the doctor gave and the unreal "cadavor looking models" makes me wonder what in todays society of the size 0 what the stats are now. In the 80's the average dress size was 8...now I don't know for sure, but I would guess anywhere from -0-2....
Forcing her to eat is not going to work, they have to make her want to eat, When it comes to trying to control what someone else puts or doesn't put into their own bodies that's where you have problems and that's when you're going to get rebellion , I mean it's not like he can be around her 24/7 the first chance she gets to throw it up she will.

i feel like parents often act this way when their child has an eating disorder. they think FORCING them to eat will make things better, but it only makes it twice as bad. i am not even sure what a HEALTHY method is to get better because forcing them isn't good nor is just sitting around and letting them continue as they are.
I remember, in the book, that this disease was very new to "the generation" when I was reading it, even though it has been around for years now. This doctor didn't know how to treat this disorder. He had no clue, period (that's how old the book is)! Also, he had to "dance around the issue" (no pun intended) for a long time to find the right treatment plan for "Kessa", especially before the disease stole her life.The book is definitely better than the movie, in my opinion ...
if i was that doctor, i would tell the girl that i was giving her some medication to decrease her appetite then give her the real meds that increase it. he knows the weight loss is deliberate. geez.

@MsTiggs911 The point of him doing other stuff was a technique they used to used in therapy, to make the patient feel less intimidated and less like they were being interrogated at a session. It was to make the patient feel like the session was less of a big deal. He in fact cared a lot, that's why he made such an effort to get her to tell him the truth.

i understand people that want to lose weight (dont we all) but you can do it in a much healthier way. heres a meal plan, try to have 2-3 cups of green tea a day(morning and b4 you go to bed r good times) -aids weight loss and the caffeine stimulates your metabolism. breakfast options: *Rye toast with a boiled or poached egg. *Hot water with lemon and ginger-gr8 to start your day with. a lil avocado wouldnt hurt and your healthy(barely but your eating atleast!)
snack on a piece of fruit or nuts(pecans, almonds and walnuts etc) 2x a day. its good to have a morning tea snack and an afternoon tea snack-keeps you from getting ridiculously hungry and keeps your metabolism up. Lunch options: *a salad-what kind is up to u (fruit salads good for breakfast aswel) * water with lemon*dandelion tea.*miso soup is also super healthy-and delicious! can get a small cup of it for $2 at any sushi place. Dinner:small portion of either fish or chicken with veges or salad.
and supper as i mentioned earlier, have a cup of green tea before you go to bed. lastly, have plenty of water, 1.5-2 litres a day, help u feel more full even though u havnt eaten much! i have an aqua cool at home-best thing ever. ice cold water despenser :) its $9 a week and if u want vitamin C enhanced lemon flavourd water(super super healthy) its only $10 a week! also some people find it easier to sleep when they have their main meal at lunch and just a small salad for dinner.
its up to you what you do, i dont personally follow this diet myself..i used to be a gymnast and did a lot of exercise, ate heaps and never put on weight so thats more my thing. exercise heaps-enjoy food! food makes me really happy lol. wish more people felt that way! anyway, this is a very strict diet, basically a supermodels diet.still in my eyes not healthy,im just trying to provide people with weight loss options other than killing yourself(starving and throwing up) hope i helped somebody..

A girl I grew up with died from Anorexia a year or two after this movie came out on tv (was made for tv). She was in and out of hospitals for about three years and then died. Her name was Beth, and she was very nice. I have always felt bad for people who deal with this because I saw what it did to her.

Forcing her to eat is not going to work, they have to make her want to eat, When it comes to trying to control what someone else puts or doesn't put into their own bodies that's where you have problems and that's when you're going to get rebellion , I mean it's not like he can be around her 24/7 the first chance she gets to throw it up she will.

@BiracialGirl1977 i remember on an episode of i think it was dr phil years ago there was a little 6 year old girl who was anorexic and the way they got her to eat was that she wasn't allowed to ride horses anymore, she loved to ride so much but couldn't cos she was too light for the horse.

i feel like parents often act this way when their child has an eating disorder. they think FORCING them to eat will make things better, but it only makes it twice as bad. i am not even sure what a HEALTHY method is to get better because forcing them isn't good nor is just sitting around and letting them continue as they are.
but i can relate a lot to how Casey is feeling.

I remember, in the book, that this disease was very new to "the generation" when I was reading it, even though it has been around for years now. This doctor didn't know how to treat this disorder. He had no clue, period (that's how old the book is)! Also, he had to "dance around the issue" (no pun intended) for a long time to find the right treatment plan for "Kessa", especially before the disease stole her life.The book is definitely better than the movie, in my opinion ...

if i was that doctor, i would tell the girl that i was giving her some medication to decrease her appetite then give her the real meds that increase it. he knows the weight loss is deliberate. geez.

Has anyone else noticed that in the 80's there were almost perfectly sized people - just like humans should be! Not like today, where a lot of people are either grossly overweight or severely underweight!

@MsTiggs911 The point of him doing other stuff was a technique they used to used in therapy, to make the patient feel less intimidated and less like they were being interrogated at a session. It was to make the patient feel like the session was less of a big deal. He in fact cared a lot, that's why he made such an effort to get her to tell him the truth.

i understand people that want to lose weight (dont we all) but you can do it in a much healthier way. heres a meal plan, try to have 2-3 cups of green tea a day(morning and b4 you go to bed r good times) -aids weight loss and the caffeine stimulates your metabolism. breakfast options: *Rye toast with a boiled or poached egg. *Hot water with lemon and ginger-gr8 to start your day with. a lil avocado wouldnt hurt and your healthy(barely but your eating atleast!)

snack on a piece of fruit or nuts(pecans, almonds and walnuts etc) 2x a day. its good to have a morning tea snack and an afternoon tea snack-keeps you from getting ridiculously hungry and keeps your metabolism up. Lunch options: *a salad-what kind is up to u (fruit salads good for breakfast aswel) * water with lemon*dandelion tea.*miso soup is also super healthy-and delicious! can get a small cup of it for $2 at any sushi place. Dinner:small portion of either fish or chicken with veges or salad.

and supper as i mentioned earlier, have a cup of green tea before you go to bed. lastly, have plenty of water, 1.5-2 litres a day, help u feel more full even though u havnt eaten much! i have an aqua cool at home-best thing ever. ice cold water despenser :) its $9 a week and if u want vitamin C enhanced lemon flavourd water(super super healthy) its only $10 a week! also some people find it easier to sleep when they have their main meal at lunch and just a small salad for dinner.

its up to you what you do, i dont personally follow this diet myself..i used to be a gymnast and did a lot of exercise, ate heaps and never put on weight so thats more my thing. exercise heaps-enjoy food! food makes me really happy lol. wish more people felt that way! anyway, this is a very strict diet, basically a supermodels diet.still in my eyes not healthy,im just trying to provide people with weight loss options other than killing yourself(starving and throwing up) hope i helped somebody..

btw. that was not making a joke about bulimia, it was an "Exorcist" reference because he played Father Karras. I didn't want anyone to think I was making light of the situation. A girl I grew up with died from Anorexia a year or two after this movie came out on tv (was made for tv). She was in and out of hospitals for about three years and then died. Her name was Beth, and she was very nice. I have always felt bad for people who deal with this because I saw what it did to her.
