What suspension are you running here?

@damoleman69 well the drivers are different - because the track pitch is different (i am pretty sure the stratos is a 2.52 pitch - the elan is a 1.97 pitch so the cogs won't line up). gonna be tricky unless you are handy and have fabbing skills.

Kind of a off topic comment but im getting ready to replace the crank seals in my 73' twin elan

I not sure if i need the split the base to change them(i know on a single you need to split the cases but not sure with my twin)

If i do need to split the cases do i need to tear down the top end (remove cylinders,etc.)

Any help would be great

@shobie Make sure your gas pump is pumping ok and id lose the air filters you dont need those in winter you would benefit from an air box with the inlet somewhere close to the exost , id think your carbs are freezing.

@FrankaDith its getting lots of gas, no problem there, it has spark on both plugs, changed both coils and the same result, the engine was rebuilt but I think a condensor is bad. I have a spare engine so I will drop it in for this weekend so I can try it.

I took the filters off and put a single carb on with an airbox, looks pretty good, will route some heat to the carb though as it does freeze up I have noticed.

@fmfraceing69 I put a 277 in an elan and it was a direct bolt in. The 277 is 27 or 28HP and the elan is a rocket with that engine in it - I suspect BRP was going to put that engine in the elan at some point but went with the tundra platform instead. The elan 250 long track manufactured and sent to europe would have been prime for the 277.

@lshobie didnt kno that lol i kno that i had an elan taht was a 250 single and i put a 295 motoski motor on it with was pretty much identical to the 250 delux elan my buddie had and i could pull away from him at half throttle like nun and then i dropped a 400 scorpion motor in it and never finished it other projects needed to be finished so i had to sell it

You said the clutch engages when it starts. No it doesn't. If you mean it engages when you rev it, all snowmobiles do that.
