  • i remember hearing one of the cranes songs about ten years ago when i was around ten and the haunting vocals and melodys actually scared me. ive listened to hundreds of diffrent bands and genres and the only other thing that has that effect is portisheads take on trip hop, just try to listen to the song cowboys and not feel impending doom

  • It was on the Chart Show on ITV that I first saw this and heard about

Cranes. It was played as a new release. I never thought anyone could

supercede the Cocteau Twins in terms of beautiful imagination but

instantly on hearing the old music room piano and then Alison's hauntingly

lovely vocals they became the best band in the world to me.

  • Un pedazo del alma perdida y encontrada, por un pedazo de recuerdo encontrado, gracias...

  • muchisimas gracias por este recuerdo tan hermoso! y gracias a mi padre por introducirme este hermoso grupo a mi vida.....

  • mtv use to play actual music videos?

  • No one can match her mystical beautiful voice.

  • I'm glad I have an open mind. Otherwise I never would've enjoyed the beauty of Alison's voice, and I'd just be banging my head mindlessly to Cannibal Corpse and Slayer for the rest of my life like most teenage,American metalheads.

  • i have no idea what she's saying but i'm really liking this!

  • I have this from 91 120 when they opened for a small band named the cure. =D

  • love this thanks...

  • i found the song 'dont wake me up' from watching californication and loved it, but i find a lot of their songs sound the same to me and her singing voice is hard to understand. it's disappointing because their overall sound is gorgeous, but lacks clarity.

  • tonight I dreamed of you

    and dreamed but at times

    you ever knew

you know I dreamed of you

    sometimes fade and ... you

  • @cleaboy, that has to be fun. i 'discovered' them after i bought 'loved' from a used cd shop in 1995. i've been hooked on them ever since. amazing band, aren't they?!

have you been able to find any info on them recording anything new?

  • Rediscovered the Cranes only very recently. Saw them live only once in a small bar in St. Mary's in Southampton in 1989. Bought the album and thought that was all they had ever done. Turns out they are still going even today! I was amazed and just bought all their albums and am enjoying catching up. Would have loved to have seen them with the Cure, one of my other favorites of all time.

  • YES!!!

In a big sea of incomparable, amazing waif-singing bands (Portishead, The Sundays, Mono, Shelleyan Orphan, Sneaker Pimps, Cocteau Twins, etc etc), The Cranes have always stood out as exquisite & precious.

    And that voice...

    -3-3-3

I too saw them open for The Cure (with Dinosaur Jr.!) back in the day!!!

  • some elements of jazz and classic music

  • Gorgeous. It was a shame when they toured for Future Songs, they hadn't played this song in years, she told me. They didn't even know how to play it anymore.

  • saw them on wish tour also. been a fan ever since. some dont care 4 her "childish" voice...f--k em

  • soo amazing, her voice is beautiful

  • Heartbreaking song! Very beautiful!

  • I remember late Sunday nights watching this on 120mins. Those were the days... ;)

  • I seen this live in 1992 cure wish tour FRONT ROW it was bad at sunset

  • Innovative one ....acecrane.com

  • This is the first Cranes song I fell in love with...........it's so beautiful.............it gives me shivers

  • this was the first Cranes song I ever heard, on the Chart Show (remember that?) on a Saturday Morning in the early 90s. i was totally blown away and went to buy the single and album straight away. Saw them play in Brighton in 93 on the Forever tour, which was probably their best album. so unique, fascinating, uncompromising. They're still going I think.

  • So beautiful. I remember going to a special signing they did at Tower Records in Glasgow in September 1991 and only 7 people turned up, which was a bit "avant guarde" for them. But they put all of us on the guestlist for the concert that night :-) In a parallel universe Cranes are always number 1...

  • I've had a crush on her since forever.

  • Her voice is so f**ckin creepy yet in really nice in a demented sort of way.

  • thanks clituser..

  • usted migo escucha cranes

    xD

  • Brano stupendo, malinconico, struggente...sono i Cranes, uno dei più grandi gruppi della scena dark/dream rock insieme ai Cocteau Twins...

  • alison shaw, a sexy european who also sings in a good band

  • just when i thought id heard it all ^^ seems to pull you back in time somehow, <3

  • her voice is out of this world, it's kind of creepy when you see her singing

  • piedad... por favor piedad... que no resistiría otra canción como esta... me llena de tanta nostalgia... Alisson...una inquisidora de la melanciçolía, excelente!!

  • Yea I saw that concert too in 92. I was so upset when I heard they weren't gonna be there. Awesome light show in that one!

    Cranes rock!

  • Beautiful song. I was supposed to see them open for The Cure (must have been in '92) and they couldn't get their visas or something. Too bad I never got to see them.

  • yeah i first them when they opened for the cure(92).

i think robert smith is still friends with these guys. robert remixed a song off of the album forever.

  • Cheers for posting this! First time I heard them was supporting The Cure in Dublin '92, was at the signing in Comet Records earlier that day and it meant nothing to me at the time - kicking myself now!

  • Thanks so much for posting this, it brings back a lot of memories. Such a powerful and moving song.

  • cranes are better than the cure, allison rocks

  • thank

  • Thx for posting!

  • Awsome! Thx poster for hanging on to that vhs.

  • saw them in '92 opening for the Cure

    both were amazing

  • whish I was there...

  • meaw meaaaw mew meaaaw

  • Haunting and beautiul

  • this use to be one of my all time favorite songs!!!

    wow,

    lovely

  • this is amazing, and unique!!!

  • i love her voice

  • is there words to any of their songs

  • touch me i'm here with you

    and though I ache

and though I want of you

make my mind and body burn

    yeah I married you

    etc. etc.

  • Just like Cocteau twins, i think you have to approximate vocal sounds to likely lyrics. Helps if you're high I guess!

  • oooo yeahhhh mmmnnn ohhh ohhh

oh yeah it it uh huh haaaaa

ummm ooo oooh uh ohhhh ahhhh

yeah dooo bee do be dooo

thats the first verse for you you

  • Course there is. But you gotta realize how many of the "shoegaze" era band pushed their vocals down in the mix for atmosphere. This influenced the vocal sound of a lot of other bands.

  • many thanks for this clip. i got it on vhs also! :D

gonna see them now in hamburg tomorrow.

  • Is it possible to see her beauty anywhere?

  • cranes were on tour in europe this spring.

concerts in spain, sweden and italy are still to come. :)

  • It seems that I miss :(

  • you can't have all the luck. ;)

  • Great upload thanks a ton for sharing

  • i have to say that her voice realy gets in my nerves but i love the music soooo much i can't stop listening to this song!!!

  • a beautiful song from a beautiful album.. in the early 90's this was one of my favorites.. years later it still has the same effect on me... btw, the "baby in a biscuit tin" reference is laughs but that is part of their appeal.. love her voice

  • "Baby in a biscuit tin"

Kinda funny. Reminds me what someone said about my fav band. (A local band) Sounds like someone pissing in a steel-bucket.

As a fan I am supposed to be offended. But the description is not that far-fetched.

So what? Still a great band, and I like them the way they are.

This "girl trapped in a tin-box" is what makes Cranes genuine and beautiful.

  • thnx for uploading m8

  • My view on this band will forever be tainted by a review which said the singer sounds like a baby in a biscuit tin!

  • Hope history quickly saw that reviewer removed from their poorly chose of vocation (no doubt it wasn't their only faulty perception or failure to appreciate)! Regardless, from all I've read, this reviewer you speak of found themselves on the very lonely side of the fence with that opinion! : )

  • Have to admit "baby in a biscuit tin" is quite funny but I still disagree.

  • sta cancion se escucho en lima peru gracias a flash back el programa de dj relax ahi sono por primeras vez y kede enamorada de la cancion :)

  • EL 91/92 ¿? ....LO DUDO MUCHO....

  • This is one of my favoritist songs ever. It's perhaps the only song that rivals 9 while 9 by Sisters of Mercy as my absolute fave. I don't think a year will go by, for the rest of my life, without listening to Tomorrows Tears at least a few times.

  • @mrethrift Outstanding reference there with the Nine While Nine Song by the Sisters of Mercy. That's probably my all time favorite song. Such dark lyrics yet the song is somehow upbeat in spite of the extreme darkness contained in the lyrics.

  • @mrethrift

I'll never forget the last time I put my copy of Wings of Joy in the CD player. Tomorrow's Tears was the song playing when the accident happened and I almost died. I can honestly say when I thought for sure I was dying and everything started to fade out, thinking that Alison Shaw's voice would be the last voice I ever heard wasn't such a sad thing.

  • love this so so much absolutely gorgeous

  • Goes directly to favorites. Long time since I dont heard that beautiful album.

  • Is the guitarist using a Hagstrom Viking? Lucky bastard.

  • my uncle paul smith is in the cranes XD well im on my mates acount but he is my uncle :D

  • love this!!!

  • 久しぶりに聞いたなぁー

  • When the last thing left is melody and beauty. Just a beautiful song. What more can anybody ask for ?

  • New CD out now!

  • Every time I hear her voice I am entranced.

    So beautiful her singing is.

    ~C~

  • OMG I haven't heard this for years. Just brilliant

  • Saw them support Ultra Vivid Scene at the International in Lonsight, would have been about 1990 maybe 1989, with a lad called Andy Rush.

  • I've always found this song to be vaguely redolent of some sketchily-defined,poorly-dissembled childhood scar of the emotional kind that resists healing....Just my impression.

  • Thank you - first I've ever heard of Cranes, and this is wonderful! I've put it on my favorites. Does have a hint of the Cure, a touch of the Sundays, but wholly unique. Thanks again for posting it.

  • Is there nothing more beutiful? My heart almost stopped when I saw them live in chicago in 1997.The band was all energy and allison was stunningly radiante.

  • Remind me of the Cure in Rotterdam 1992. First time I saw The Cranes. Impresive!

  • hermoso, te amo allison

  • Just listened to this song for the first time in fifteen years, brings back great memories.oh to be 19 again.

  • I know what you mean. I was about 19 when I first heard this as well.

  • I wish all music was this moving.

  • that was lush :)

  • beautiful

  • wow! this song/video bring memories. The first time i heard the cranes was when they opened up for the cure in 92 and loved them since. I used to listened to this album in my middle school days i was the only one.

  • Thanx for the vid. Any is better then none.

  • i love alison

  • I adore her voice.

  • So original - even now it sounds like nothing on Earth.

  • amazing structure of the song, unable to understand all lyrics but still so much emotion.

  • Your so in Luck! Their hand-made lyric books "Til the Stars Shine" is available again as of Dec. 7th, at cranes-fan dot com backslash news. Contains lyrics to 40 cranes songs from "Self Non Self," "Wings of Joy", "Forever", "Loved", "Population Four", plus many of the EP's, including "Moon City". The books sold out quickly last time, so don't miss out! RMM∞

  • Great song :)

I dont't love ALL of Cranes but this song is one of the most beautiful i ever listen :)

  • so unique...i love you for this!!!

  • ehi, thank you for uploading*
