Graylikeamonster,Shirley was genuine, not artificial, her dancing was great, her singing,I agree not unusual like Judy Garland ,but her natural timing, remembering not just her lines, but everybody else's was extroadinary for a child. Her later films like Heidi and Wee Willie Winkie were exceptional. Her personality was captivating to the people of that period and continues to fascinate audiences today.
@Graylikeamonster she can sing, and it wasn't only her cuteness that made her famous. It was her bravery, her "spunk". She was a confident girl and that made her more adorable than most "cute" little girls of her time.
@ramblergarage is there something wrong with your heart that you find the need to hate and whine about a little girl? hmm..well i guess we all know the answer to that question
@Graylikeamonster Sure lots of kids are cute but can they act and dance at the calibur. Most adults can't even reach her level the way she captivates the audience is just amazing.
Gosh- back when there was real talent, and happy entertainment despite the depression- George Murphy was a wonderful dancer and as for Shirley Temple- no one, ever- in the seventy plus years since this was made, ever came close to her for real talent- thanks for these old flicks-
@143AC - I heard he wasn't very good about picking good movies. I don't mean this one I meant like Casa Blanca which I believe he turned it down and several other wonderful films in which he could have been success in his film career. RIP George Murphy
Legend Films go through great lengths when colorizing films. They research all their work. If there were color stills of Temple's dress, they'll go off of that. They have digital technology. Movies colorized in the 1980's and 90's were only analog technology. Actually, a few of their colorized versions are showing up on the internet, buy their 'colorized' version is copyrighted.
thats not true ciggs were not as bad as they are now.. there are more chemicals in ciggs now then back then. thats why ppl lasted as long as they did.. now if someone smokes..just watch how long they last cant even live past 70
Dear MFlower, This is a colorized version of this film. When"Little Miss Broadway"was released back in 1938.The movie was in B&W. So,we don't know what the color of Ms.Temple's dance shoes..let alone her costume was?
Yeah, not to mention that cigs were 10 times harsher back then too. No filter cigarettes. It's amazing how ANY of the smokers back in the day lasted as long as they did.
could somebody upload the whole mivie? I DON'T CARE IF IT'S 10 PARTS OR 20 PARTS! I WANT TO WATCH IT!

Marvelous! I love the dancing, the singing, and the syncopated rhythms of the song arrangement.

I ment to say here..That I'm not fond of Sen.Murphy
Smoking that damn cigarette at the start of his number...
this is what lead to the cancer that killed him many years
later.
143AC 2 years ago
Well, you have to remember that nobody knew it was harmful in his day. Shirley was a smoker as well. It was just a social thing.

@143AC
People didn't even know smoking was harmful until the 50s. That's when they started to realize it was effecting their health poorly.

I love the song and dance number between Sen.Murphy
and Ms.Temple..but..I'm fond of the fact that the senitor
is smoking..that is a dangerous habit and sadly,it killed
him many years later.
