This is ONE of my favorite lyrics of Creeds songs. More people should take the time to actually LISTEN to lyrics and the messages that songs are saying!
creed is a christian metal band right? so of course they are going to produce songs about their faith, are people seriously going to act like aetheist havent done the same? im not even christian, but i know creed is amazing.
@bejamjam Actually, they have never been a christian band -- Mark has said that many of his songs are spiritual, but based on his own interpretations about life -- not some religious doctrine. However, he has never come out and said anything negative to those that think he is preaching ... he just let's them think what they wish as any good songwriter/artist would do. Ultimately, the whole thing with labeling people and bands is a bunch of BS -- good music is good music regardless of style.
Creed was great band that me and my dad listened to back when I was a kid. Reminds me of a time when we were a family of Christians trying to make our place in the world. Good times, thanks you Creed. For the memories.
I love how they linked Wrong Way and this song together with the opening sound effect. Beautiful song, it's what really turned me on to Creed back in 2001. Been my favorite band 2003. My favorite song of all time is Who's Got My Back.
The Faceless Man is himself. When he looks into the river and sees the face, he actually sees the reflection of the embodiment of Christ in himself. The song is about the constant struggle inside between " good and evil".
I love this! Creed has some pretty kewl ways of phrasing their songs that is totally unique to them! Miss the 'old' Creed though. Thanks for putting this up.

Great job on your video! Great Song. Wanted you to know I posted it in my Facebook group called Songs of Strength. If you're a facebooker, love for you to join us for more like this!
Not a Christian band, just a band of Christians. Gotta love them ha! So good, go check out their other band Alter Bridge if you have not! Oh PS Tremonti Rocks!
"Now I saw a face on the water. It looked humble but willing to fight. I saw the will of a warrior. His yoke is easy and His burden is light..." He is talking about Jesus. To me, the faceless man represents his sin nature...or possibly Satan. He's saying that he wants to stand against his sinful nature, and/or Satan and say "yes" to the Lord. "Next time I see that face, I'll say I choose to live for always. So won't you come inside and never go away." It's an awesome song.
@H0wlinPelleAlmqvist The Faceless man is not Christ..."Again I stand, Lord I stand against the faceless man." The way I see this is that the "faceless man" portrays evil. As we all know evil can come in anyform, be it a stranger on the street to your parents, or your best friend, evil is everything and evil takes on whatever form it can possibly take. He's telling God that he's going to go up against it and fight whatever temptations and trials that he's going to come up against.
Regardless of evil being present in our lives (whether we know it or not), the light, Jesus, God is also there. This is what he describes when he sees the face in the water - he sees Jesus, referring to Him as a warrior, but not a warrior in the typical sense.
He is a warrior who is humble and willing to fight the good fight. Taking a look back on Jesus' life you'll see how He "fought" and how He was a "warrior" against those people who persecuted Him. It wasn't with words, it wasn't with violence, it was with kindness, it was with Love.
@Jenkins1997 Actually the faceless man is christ, this is proven with the lyrics "His yoke is easy and his burden is light" "Mathew 11:29-30 All of you, take up my yoke and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in hear, and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" Also the whole part about Next time I see this face I'll say I choose to live for always, so won't you come inside and never go away. Well... thats a pretty dead give away too.
@CecillHawke But if you look at the lyrics the face in the water is not the faceless man he is refering to but someone differently all together. He knows who Christ is, he is standing against the faceless man which would imply to me that it is not Christ.
We will know Christ when we face him, he will not be Faceless
personally I think he is talking about himself when refers to the faceless man. Simply because it is easy in this world to loose who we truly are. I don't think it has any reference to the devil though I do agree he is speaking with the Lord about himself.
at the end of the song he says that the next time he seems him he will ask him to come in .. this faceless man also refers to the True Lord Christ. There is to many biblical undertones in this song to say that it isn't speaking about Jesus who was the man of sorrows so this song has a two fold meaning in it.
People think because they see the word lord that it means Jesus or god. Alot of bands use the word "Lord" but the word lord is not only associated with Christianity. Led Zeppelin used it, Black Sabbath, Ac/Dc were any of those bands Christian ? No a lord can be a lord of anything. And Scott Stapp is Christian but this band is not, his lyrics reflect his religious upbringing he does not make them for "god" or for Christians and they don't refer to god or any of his teachings.
This song is about God. Theres a part in the bible about how all men who ever see the face of God die, because we are so sinful and our souls are so deep in sin that we wouldn't be able to handle God's perfectness..its like how we would not be able to handle the heat of the sun if we were ever face to face with it...we would be incinerated. hence, he is called the "faceless" man...also the part at 2:05, "his yoke is easy and his burden is light" was another verse in the bible, a quote from Jesus
k i think that this song is not as much as dealing with satan persay, but he's looking into himself and confronting is inner darkness. A faceless or unrecognizable version of himself that he could become if he doesn't stand against it.
@candyboot4 He is singing about the face on the water, the face that always tells us to do right, live well, and be happy in service to others. Maybe he is singing about conscience, and the man with no face (conscience) should be avoided.
@jaidencole19 Take the song however you want, but the lyric "His yoke is easy and His burden is light" is taken directly out of Matthew in the Bible. I agree that he's looking at himself, and he knows there's a better person in him. I always took the song meaning he was struggling because he could no longer see the Lord in himself, and he wants God back in his life. Hence the lyric "Next time I see this face I'll say, 'I choose to live for always. So won't you come inside and never go away?'"

this band rocks so hard I dont understand why they believe in god -.- it destroys the mood i get in when I listening to the guitar and I hear he talks to god... that sucks so hard... GUYS DIDNT YOU FIGURE OUT GOD IS NOTHING MORE THAN SANTA CLAUS...or spongebob...
whats wrong with singin about their faith? thats pretty messed up. most of creed lyrics go pretty deep. music is not about the sound, it is about the art and story behind it
@ib2607 I agree but I would also defend creed's sound, it's kind of peaceful, you can be angry and raging, then you just listen this or some other song from them and your return back to peace.
@chasid730 If that's what Scott Stapp who writes the songs thinks and feels and believes in God, of course that's gonna come through in his songwriting =)
@chasid730 they dont sing about God!! what the hell are you listening too mane! The faceless man is himself. has nothing to do with God. He hates what he can see in himself and knows there is a better person behind the face he can see
@MyDarkmage I disagree, it's easy to believe everything is about "God" when you believe in him because "God" is supposed to be everywhere, everything. However i believe the "Faceless man" is actually satan. I don't believe in either, but thats what i do believe this song is about, the faceless man being everyone who temps him, the lord of course being, well, the lord, his conviction and strength. My own prison is a song anyone can relate to, his perspective may be based of god, but its general.
@shadowanubis I agree with Satan being the object of the words in this song. Satan is part of whats inside us all but also can be the forces of evil in the world. You are right that God can be thought of as everywhere and so can Satan. I believe Satan is in the Government these days and maybe, hopefully some of this song points towards the faceless beings who are Satanic, who control our Government and in effect the fake Freedom that we are told we have. We do have our own personal freedom in us
wow did you really bring beiber into this? lmao dude hes gonna be popular for one maybe 2 albums then die out
hes just another fad to music. creed is real music because they are still remembered after 10 years and they came back with another album. you cant imitate them like beiber. hes just another mcCartney or aaron carter. nothing new.
probably one of the best band ever!!!!....I miss them.....they're great....their songs...have meanings..........great!!!!!.....this song is one of my favorites..
This song is about the faceless men and women who serve our country and keep our country safe, though we have never met them, that's why they are faceless.
It is about Scott "hearing" from God. God is calling him. " I saw a face on the water, it was humble but willing to fight I saw the will of a warrior, His yoke is easy and His burden is light" In the bible Jesus said "come unto me all who are burdened and I will give you rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. He has to get to the otherside (heaven) with God or he may not make it. To him at this time Jesus was faceless because scott didn't know him personally. Just about Him.
Also when he says " The next time I see this face I'll say won't you come inside and never go away, I choose to live for always, so won't you come inside and never go away. That is a reference to him asking Jesus to come into his life and never leave. The bible says anyone can pray and ask Jesus to come into their life and He will, once you receive him and his forgiveness you have eternal life and Jesus said if you invite Him in he will come in and never leave. So come inside and never go away
All music has a many meaning. The same song to one person may reflect differently to another, regardless of what the poet meant when writing it. Thats whats so beautiful about music, it all has eternal meaning; and to some is senseless, which is why certain individuals enjoy some music over others.
Not 2 B a "knowitall"..but if U read your bible U would know, the descript. of the "facelessman" even the title R direct quotes from the bible. The Bible describes "God" as having a face so perfect & powerful that NO 1 could even look upon it & LIVE.(faceless.) Also where he says "his yolk is easy, & his burden, light." Those exact words R biblical Quotes. I don't think this song has anything 2 do w/ "religion" so much as a deep, & pure "RELATIONSHIP" w/ the1 he believes is his "CREATOR."
Makes sense. I like to think he's referring to himself though, rather than God or Jesus. Maybe something of a self-reflection? It sounds like self-reflection to me. And how he's struggling with... well himself. But yeah, there's a good chance it's associated with religion though.
i agree he is reflecting on his life and his choices, therefore also invovling religion cuz hes turning his life around, and asking jesus to "come inside and never go away" so both are right and dont dig to much into the music just enjoy it!~
You have a good point but in the bible it says that GOD has a FACE that is so perfect whoever so look upon it shall not live. that much you are right bout but faceless not necessarily
i used to think the same, hoo, but i have come to take a different viewpoint. The faceless man is Satan. There are two different faces in the song. One- the faceless man - satan.
When he sees the face on the water, that is not the faceless man. That face is Jesus Christ. "His yoke is easy, and His burden is light." Those are the words of Jesus Christ from the new testament book mathew, only Jesus says them in the First Person of course........one of the greatest songs ever.
I personally think that when he says in the song "I stand AGAINST.. the faceless man." he does not mean Against as in "opposed to" or "forcing in an opposite direction" I do believe he means "stand AGAINST" as in "LEAN AGAINST" or to RELY on. Because the without the faceless man he'd have to walk ALONE. And if he has to walk ALONE he won't make it home...(HOME a.k.a. HEAVEN. So he must rely on or lean/stand Against the faceless man..to live for always.
the faceless man is jesus. the song is using passages from the bible that describe jesus. the face in the water, is scott seeing jesus inside of himself. that is why the man is faceless. the scott sees the actions of jesus, working through him,but not the face of jesus. if it was scott's reflection he could see the face, and he would know what it looked like.
i guess the first to place to start would be the gospel of matthew chapter 11 verse 30. that is a direct quote, and would be the easiest to look up. the granting of enternal life is throughout he new tesatment.the book of revelation talks of a jesus being a warrior. even jesus said he came not for peace but sword matthew chapter 10:34, but jesus also taught us to be a humble servant. i hope that helps a little. i dont have alot of room to quote everything

My own prison is a song anyone can relate to, his perspective may be based of god, but its general.
shadowanubis 1 year ago
@shadowanubis I agree with Satan being the object of the words in this song. Satan is part of whats inside us all but also can be the forces of evil in the world. You are right that God can be thought of as everywhere and so can Satan. I believe Satan is in the Government these days and maybe, hopefully some of this song points towards the faceless beings who are Satanic, who control our Government and in effect the fake Freedom that we are told we have. We do have our own personal freedom in us
roofer10 1 year ago
@roofer10 I'd have to say that your both wrong. It seems to me that the song is about himself.

Reallifepoet23 2 years ago 4

I think he's referring to himself with the 'faceless man', don't think it has anything to do with religion.
naamhier 2 years ago
Not 2 B a "knowitall"..but if U read your bible U would know, the descript. of the "facelessman" even the title R direct quotes from the bible. The Bible describes "God" as having a face so perfect & powerful that NO 1 could even look upon it & LIVE.(faceless.) Also where he says "his yolk is easy, & his burden, light." Those exact words R biblical Quotes. I don't think this song has anything 2 do w/ "religion" so much as a deep, & pure "RELATIONSHIP" w/ the1 he believes is his "CREATOR."
hoooocarez 2 years ago
Makes sense. I like to think he's referring to himself though, rather than God or Jesus. Maybe something of a self-reflection? It sounds like self-reflection to me. And how he's struggling with... well himself. But yeah, there's a good chance it's associated with religion though.
naamhier 2 years ago 2
i agree he is reflecting on his life and his choices, therefore also invovling religion cuz hes turning his life around, and asking jesus to "come inside and never go away" so both are right and dont dig to much into the music just enjoy it!~
Sirsmokesalot2009 2 years ago
it's called "spirituality" vs "religion" :)\
777AMAYA 2 years ago
You have a good point but in the bible it says that GOD has a FACE that is so perfect whoever so look upon it shall not live. that much you are right bout but faceless not necessarily
silentfighter17 2 years ago
lol dude the song is towards Religion, God being the "Faceless Man" because we cannot see what he looks like,
Kodesta 2 years ago
i used to think the same, hoo, but i have come to take a different viewpoint.
Woodrowski379 2 years ago
i think ur rite cause when scott say in the bdge next time i see this face i say i choose to live for always
gutterplug 2 years ago
exactly........... i choose to live for always.......so won't You come inside and never go away. also the prayer for salvation in this song. thanks
Woodrowski379 2 years ago
I personally think that when he says in the song "I stand AGAINST.. the faceless man." he does not mean Against as in "opposed to" or "forcing in an opposite direction" I do believe he means "stand AGAINST" as in "LEAN AGAINST" or to RELY on. Because the without the faceless man he'd have to walk ALONE. And if he has to walk ALONE he won't make it home...(HOME a.k.a. HEAVEN. So he must rely on or lean/stand Against the faceless man..to live for always.

w/e it means, it is a kick ass song.
spaniard0524 3 years ago
the faceless man is jesus. the song is using passages from the bible that describe jesus. the face in the water, is scott seeing jesus inside of himself. that is why the man is faceless. the scott sees the actions of jesus, working through him,but not the face of jesus. if it was scott's reflection he could see the face, and he would know what it looked like.
dexterslab1976 3 years ago
Which passage(s)?
Averroes1987 3 years ago
i guess the first to place to start would be the gospel of matthew chapter 11 verse 30. that is a direct quote, and would be the easiest to look up. the granting of enternal life is throughout he new tesatment.the book of revelation talks of a jesus being a warrior. even jesus said he came not for peace but sword matthew chapter 10:34, but jesus also taught us to be a humble servant. i hope that helps a little. i dont have alot of room to quote everything
dexterslab1976 3 years ago 2
The faceless man is himself.
Averroes1987 3 years ago
My son says the "Faceless Man" is Jesus Christ!
stevesmith7ft 3 years ago
It's possibly he's singing about Jesus, but it could also be about himself he's looking at in the water.
"A face looking humble but willing to fight; a "warrior", perhaps the inner side, the soul, of Scott telling him to do what's right.
Averroes1987 3 years ago
