  • Good points!

My credit report is none of anyones business!

  • I have 0 credit because i never had it & don't want it, it is my God given a RIGHT!. I refuse to be held hostage by creditors so all my life I have always spent cash (Something people don't haven't seen in years). I cannot get a job because of lack of Education (Can't afford it) and because I have NO credit. I am 40 and live on Disability because of it. What a wonderful Country the Fuckin' USA is.

  • IT is against the law, credit report, background check, and mode of living their all one happy family look whats going on there is no need to run a credit check so you cant go bankrupt if you have no job no chapter 13 now you have to wait 8 years to file chapter 7 please DO NOT TAKE CREDIT CARDS THEY ARE PUTTING PEOPLE IN DEBT

  • ITS AGAINST THE LAW THE BANKRUPTCY CODE THERE IS NO NEED FOR A CREDIT REPORT EVEN A BACKGROUND CHECK WHAT SO I WAS WILD I LISTEN TO ROCK MUSIC ETC. CMON THIS IS UN AMERICAN

  • @Suziq1231 -ABSOULUTELY! - Not only it is downright un american, it is purely illegal. The people who you owe has nothing to do with your ability to do with the job that you are applying for. Employers should not have access to such information because it is none of their business. Check should be limited to work history, and criminal records etc. Such checks should be banned by our govt. because it is unconstitutional. Many are unable to keep credit scores high simply because they are out of -

  • work many through no fault of their own, and are unable to keep such people who they owe simply because they are out of work.

  • I have actually emailed my representatives about making this illegal. No response. (unless you're applying for banker or accountant). Obviously lawmakers don't feel it's important. But over 3,000 people have watched this video and that makes me feel hope. BTW I defaulted on a BUSINESS loan. That's right I was trying to make money, not buying clothes and things right and left. I had a business loan because I believed in myself.

  • Um...... How is this not illegal?? So lets assume I got laid off my job after graduating college, as a result I defaulted on my student loans, so here I am with no criminal record, a legitimate reason for my credit, but I cant get a JOB!? The whole reason FOR the job is to FIX the credit?

  • LABOUR HAVE FUCKED UK THE UNITED KINGDOM !IF YOUR POLISH YOU CAN HAVE A JOB BUT IF YOUR BRITISH YOYR FUCKED.............THANKS BLAIR

  • You are totally right....we should make a law that would prohibit credit checks from employers, what does my credit have to do with my work performance..fucking bullshit !

  • I agree, lets help the economy America, there is a better way!

  • its a new way of discrimination! hi Midwest America Credit Union!

  • Just a lil note.... Sombody says the ACLU will only go after the govt.... So if a both a friend of mine and myself were denied employment w/ TSA, DUE TO BAD CREDIT, NOT CRIMINAL BACKROUND, would that be enough for them?

  • Yes it is crazy people watch out its beginning to get crazy . McDonalds will start to check your credit after a while credit dont tell you nothing. Hell some people have had alot of bad breaks that dont mean that thay are a criminal oh well its to be expected out of the American system.

  • In order to make it ileagle you have to make it ileagle to ask for it. because they will say you gave them authorization even if you make it ileagle.

  • I think credit reports, drug testing, all that stuff, invading your personal stuff, it is crazy out here now, tell u go back to school hello no one has money to pay for school, dont have job, crazy out here,

  • Just think of people who have gone through a nasty divorce. Most likely their credit has been ruined. Add crooked companies that buy bad debit for penny's to the dollar and harass these people by phone and mail.

  • I just lost a job because of student loans and 190dlrs medical fee that went through equifax..I dont understand, I m looking for a job to pay my bills

  • I agree as always Jerry but it doesn't stop there. They should have no jurisdiction as to what you do in your personal life either. Just another way this government is fucking us right in the rump and we simply take it because we are all out trying to make a living . This government needs an overhaul.

  • The Government is the problem.....

  • I completely agree with you. It's just ludicrous. You get a job so you can afford to pay your bills. There is no reason to have to worry about whether you've been able to pay them in the past as a condition of whether you'll be able to in the future. It should be illegal.

  • same with insurance rates, even if you have had insurance with your company

for years and never had a late payment they still use it to rais rates!

  • Yea, WTF, that is B.S.

  • It has happened to me also. I lost my job a few years back and had to take one at a greatly reduced rate. I fell behind on my bills and it killed my credit. I have denied several crappy jobs recently and have been umemployed since I graduated college this past May. No one will hire me. I have never been in troulbe with the law but to them I am a criminal. How can I get out of this mess?

  • Well, I hope your situation is better at present. My situation is similar, and the only thing that I have that can help is my veteran status. But that's a double-edged sword in itself.

  • i agree with you jerry,i filed for 13 a few years back, today i have been unemployed for 10 months.

  • Wow. That seems so sneaky.

  • GD-it F-ing TRUTH!!!!!

  • I agree with you 100% jerryERRN.

  • Yeah I think its unfair. I been turned down for employment because of my credit report. My husband was injured from work and are credit was ruined.

  • The problem is that every time we actually let an employer a look at our Credit report we compound the problem ourselves.

What's wrong with saying "That's none of your business" and walking out the door to find an employer that you can have a solid working relationship with based on your skills and abilities and what they can offer you? As well as mutual respect.

Who in their right mind would authorize someone they dont know to have access to their private information?

  • why is this not illeagal

  • agree with you wholeheartedly-a mistake in your past can inevitably follow you around for a long time-----not fair at all---thanks for bringing this up---hooah-armymom2srvng-cath

  • WHAT!?? Are you serious?

I wonder if schools do this when looking up criminal backgrounds for volunteers.

Good God what have we come to.

Seems like an attempt to segregate the classes.

  • I was just denied a job due to my poor credit, i was amazed when they called me and started asking me about my credit report.

  • Its business over humanity.

The bottom line.Obscene in the the least.

Thanks for raising this issue JerryERRN.

  • I was told once it is to see if you are prone to dishonesty and if you're prone to stealing if you're in debt. I don't agree with that idea.

  • Hey, I am glad you posted this, I had no idea!!!!

  • JerryERRN, the ACLU only takes action against violations of the Constitution perpetrated by brances of government, or against organizations and business concerns that receive government subsidies. If you think you have a case, you must go to the ACLU; the ACLU doesn't go to you. Further, the ACLU is at the forefront of protecting your privacy. It fought against the Patriot Act and is now fighting against state mandated IDs.

  • Thanks for your information but, I ask the ACLU about this as it sets up poor people or those who do not met the great credit you hear about. Fact is that 80% of the people have had some kind of credit problems. So to have information about my past and my medical bills is something that is not needed. P.S. the ACLU

  • The ACLU did not want to look at this because they feel it is not their problem. Yet it would reflect only on the poorest in this country. So what is fair about this.

  • If the credit report ever becomes mandated by law, then the ACLU will indeed become concerned.

I read an article where corporations are interested in studying the physiological makeups of those just entering the work force to see what diseases they are most susceptible to in later years. There is no need to tell you how scary this is.

  • Thanks again but the problem is that it is not mandated by law it is part of a criminal back ground form. So if you refuse to complete the form then no job. So there is no law for it but, there is no protection to stop it. With your diseases again I can see who you owe money to and medical cost. information they should not have or need.

  • @jerryERRN this law just passed in california!!!nwo ho!

  • @BeatBuddy This is excellent information. The bill that must be passed is HR 3149. I've sent several emails and letters to the President concerning this illegal activity being conducted by US corporations. The unemployment rate is going to continue to rise if this credit check bull crap doesn't stop! The right people hasn't been impacted yet but the way the economy is going it just a matter of time before A credit citizens are affected.

  • Even though my credit record is superlative, I find this outrageous. Makes me wonder if previous generations would have put up with this. There was a time, for example, when employers marched their workers to the voting booths and fired them if they didn't vote for the "right" candidate. Workers united to put an end to it. As Volaire said, "A path of flowers is not the road to glory." I say, rock the boat.

  • it probably is to keep wages low, but what will a credit check matter? It'll be hard to keep the wages very far below market value b/c if that person has qualifications that make them eligible for the job, they will have other suitors and openings, etc. in other words they will be able to test their value on the job market and take the best offer. If unrelated entities offer the same wage, it's probably a pretty good indicator of that persons value in the labor market.

  • It isn't always for that reason, though. In city jobs, especially with a police department, they publish the salary in advance. They really do the credit check to gage whether you might be a security risk.

  • I don't think any law mandates credit checks, but none forbids them either. In most cases, you are probably right. It's just a means of getting extra information tht they can use against you. It's just like asking what salary you are looking for. They can instantly either reject you as too expensive or take advantage of you if you lowball.

  • wow found a great blogger!! i feel you on this!

  • its true

  • I agree with you that this is more a matter of personal privacy and marginalization. When you interview for your typical corporate job and a potential employer asks you if you have children, that is a red flag that the employer is trying to assess your personal life over your experience, education and qualifications. That would be ALMOST as irrelevant as asking what's your sexual orientation at an interview.

  • So, if they have your credit report, they know things about your personal life that they would not DARE ask at an interview. They know what kind of car you drive, the value of your house, whether or not you shop at Sax or Kmart, kids, fetishes, personal habits...etc. Potential employers may very well be judging you by whether you're single, married, Baptist, in DEBT. AND, they are getting away with it.

  • I have a question for anybody that knows the answer to this: are they having people sign a release the same as the form you sign for the criminal background check? Is the credit report authorization included with the criminal check or separate? I would like to see one of those forms. Hmmmm....maybe I'll do a little experiment...

  • They want to know if you will be tempted to thievery due to economic need.

  • then by all means do the criminal back ground but, why would you need to know my credit history. There are to many high CEO's that have stolen much more did they do a credit history on them

  • hey jerry, I work at a job were they monitor your credit and background semianually. It is a very high security industry. unfortunatly since I have been at this job ,i have seen two people escourted out by security , one due to a bankruptcy from divorce and one from the overburden of medical bills.

  • I feel that there is a lawyer at the end of this. Not that you are a lawyer but, when did this become legal and who was behind it. This just seems to be another way to cut the work force or not to allow some to work, or maybe the way to make you work for less.

  • I feel that there is a lawyer at the end of this. Not that you are a lawyer but, when did this become legal and who was behind it. This just seems to be another way to cut the work force or not to allow some to work, or maybe the way to make you work for less.

  • I believe if they were to base wages on credit history then it would be a strong case for discriminatory hiring practices.

A good credit history shows that you are a financially responsible person and make good decisions. This is a characteristic that many businesses need in an employee.

  • That is not so. When are daughter was killed last year some of my credit go hit. So for many years we did the right thing and then comes the BS of credit reporting. your employer should have any right to your credit history as in our case one thing changed our whole life. You do not see that in a credit report nor do they ask

  • Your potential employer has the right to do a criminal background check (in some states you need to authorize the check.) People have been wrongly accused/convicted, or perhaps made some bad decisions in their life. Should that keep them from getting a job?

Even the best system is flawed in some way.

I don't particularly like the idea of credit checks for potential employement, but I can see both sides of the coin.

  • Thank you for your input and I can see that we need Criminal back ground checks as I do not want any working around the things I do that might not be on the up and up. Mia sent me a video response and she had one good point. With your credit history that can see if you have medical bill and now they no more than they should.

  • Saw her video. Seems like there are alot of "what ifs". But the one thing that we all can count on is if an employer does discriminate based on whats on your credit report (medical bills, etc) there are enough lawyers just waiting to go after this.

  • Misses BC

I am sorry if I sent the wrong greeting out to you in my email. I thank you for your response and let me know is you get more on that story I would be glad to tell them to stick it.

  • This is misses BC responding. I totally agree with you. It is an invasion of privacy and something you dont get to defend. I wanted to let you know about a news story I saw recently. The credit bureaus are going to be offering an opt out option. I believe it means they would no longer track your credit or have the info to give out about you. The interesting part is that they added that you would not be given credit if you chose this option.

  • Please tell me then who would benefit from this and why they are offering it? I see this as a huge opportunity if most Americans chose this option. I dont see that happening but it would be great if everyone did. The credit bureaus have all of the power and it just isnt fair!! Thanks for speaking out.

  • Excellent Point! Your employer is going to pay you money, not you oweing them money. It's not like you're buying a $250k house or something! Keep up the excellent work.

  • I never even thought about that point. Keep speaking up for what you believe in. You are one heck of a good nurse and a pleasure to work with.
