  • why would otters need a boat?

  • 3 people put a hole in their washtub.

  • thumbs up if youve watch thin movie every christmas

  • This song alone just shows the technical brilliance of Jim Henson. How many other puppeteers at the time would of said, "Have two singing and moving characters rowing a boat down a river of real water AND the occasional background charatcer?? ...Sure, we can figure that out."

  • Mama can sure hold some high notes.......lol.

  • The Riverbottom Nightmare Band loves holes in the washtub.

  • OH SOOOOO SORRYYYYYYY! *Spits water in mouth*

  • Classic! This brings back many fond memories from back in the day!

  • I love this so much!! I cannot believe how this song still makes me cry. I am hitting Amazon after this post to order it, my VHS tape is thrashed:( Thank you Jim Henson Co. for posting!!!

  • @navywife1977 Disney and Jim Henson Co are One!

  • straight up classic!!! I was born in 78 and this was my flick. just bought it for my 2 year old nephew for christmas--need to turn the youth onto the good stuff

  • Every year when Emmet the Otter Jugband Christmas came on HBO I knew that Christmas was coming soon. It is still the best movie ever! As a matter of fact we just ordered a new copy of it from Amazon. The VHS tape has seen better days.

  • @jillonya what about the BETA? lol

  • Sweetest Christmas Special EVER!!!

  • The 3 dislikes are from The Riverbottom Nightmare Band. The fish hit LIKE. (;

  • just cry my eyes out every time I see this movie or hear the songs brings back so many wonderful memories

  • My favorite Christmas movie of all time! My husband and I say, "I'm not just hungry. I'm huuuuuunnnngryyyyyyyy!" and crack each other up. For those looking for the movie, Wal-Mart and Amazon have it and Netflix is streaming it.

  • Great cartoon. Always used to watch this every Christmas. Love it!

  • 2 people have holes in their washtubs

  • But,... he puts a hole in the washtub :(

  • @Sirchud68 Yeah but..."Pa woulda done it"! He would've hocked that Toolbox too!!!

  • You know who disliked this? A hole in the washtub.

  • One person has a hole in the washtub!

  • Whoever disliked this must have been kicked in the nuts by their drunken dad when watching the movie.

  • @cbeatty551 exactlly

  • me: doctor i have a crack in my ass doctor:you idot every one has a crack in their ass me:oh

  • I forgot all about this!

  • I've got a hole in my ass.

  • I don't know. Watched it twice and didn't see any wires. The boat must be on a stable platform that glides along with the puppeteers underneath with breathing apparatus on. Maybe, somewhere, there is a how they did it to this.

  • 1 dislike? Must be E. Scrooge

  • guys chill. they;re on shrooms

  • Thank God for Alamo Drafthouse. Every year in December they have a free showing of Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas with a real jugband to open the screening. It brings back so many memories from when I was a kid.

  • I miss Emmit at Christmas time. I used to know every song by heart. Gonna have to get it on DVD so I can share it with my niece and hopefully someday soon my own son/daughter.

  • @hedwig37 My dad had the same idea -_- please don't

  • How could anyone NOT like this entire movie?

  • why don't they play this anymore for Christmas??? Dam tv people

  • The puppeteers chew a special gum that allows them to breath underwater.

  • How did the puppeteer work the puppets in the water? There are no ripples or air bubbles from scuba gear. Anyone?

  • @maryted I think it worked the same as the way Jim did it with Rainbow Connection; he was in a special tank, like a submarine that didn't move. I think it worked the same this way, but click on the owners of this site to be sure.

  • @maryted - :) I hear from a good source, Chuck Norris was the puppeteer for these scenes - because he once held his breath for nine years.

  • @maryted When you see them in close-up, the boat isn't actually in the water. That's when the puppeteers are working them by hand. In the long shots, it's a different set of puppets-- they're marionettes, being controlled from above with wires. Emmet's arms are motorized to keep rowing without the puppeteer's input.

  • My dad and I still watch this every holiday...I'm 39...LOL! Priceless memories!!

  • How did they manipulate the puppets in the boat whilst in the water? O.o

  • BRINGS BACK SOOOO MANY GOOD MEMORIES FROM CHILDHOOD. THIS WILL NEVER GET OLD TO ME. THANX SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS.

  • It was not officially Chirstmas until I saw this show on HBO when I was a kid.

  • Good times, great memories

  • It's not Christmas without Emmet!!!!

  • @hellomalcolm AMEN TO THAT!

  • "Good catch, Wendell!"

    "Yeah, they're really biting today."

  • Good memories. :)

  • That was a nice song!

  • They cut out a few lines just before the song begins. The original scene should have gone like this:

Emmet: Well at least there ain't no hole in the washtub.

Ma: Oh, "There Ain't No Hole in the Washtub!" That's what you call your basic 'keeping-warm-while-you're-rowing-home' kinda song.

Emmet: I'm rowin', where's the singing?

  • @Fragglevision dude, you're totally right...why'd they do that?? oh yeah and i friggin love this movie.

  • @Fragglevision They do this a couple of times in the DVD release...it drives me nuts! I watched this movie for years as a kid in a VHS version my mom taped from TV, and now it just throws me off when it doesn't go the way I expect it to!

  • 'least there ain't no double negatives in this here washtub for learnin' our chillins right.

  • "There go two of the nicest folk on the river." :-) I love this film so much.
