Of course "you can't park there" is something you will never hear nowadays. In reality they would stand there, watch you lock the car and walk away, then stick a ticket on. I used to think they were there to stop people parking illegally and blocking up the highway (you know, the way traffic wardens used to) Now I realise I was naive and they are there purely to raise as much revenue for the local council as possible.
