No matter who else they cast in those incredible two roles I will ALWAYS adore Colm & Philip the best. This confrontation is one of my fave bits. I love their two different parts blending together and how they both say Javert's name so fiercely at the same time.. These two men are just brilliant. I love Valjean and even more so Javert, I was so upset when he dies! these two characters really are fantastic. I swear to god it's unreal to describe literally how obsessed I am with them. Go Les Mis!

@UdallIn72 this is actually quite slow for us : ) it's just like how you read english, you catch the more important words and ignore the conjunctions etc, so even though this is written in traditional chinese(which is used by older people, taiwanese, japanese kanji, hong kong people and macau people. i learnt simplified chinese), and i've been living overseas for quite a few years(i.e there's lots of words i don't know) i can still understand the words.

Vocal range, though, isn't really a good gauge of strength. Take a look at just the libretto by itself... Javert breaks, Valjean bends.

I hear ya, easterbunny. I saw Les Mis at Chanhassen Dinner Theaters in MN this summer (2007), and it was phenomenal. The Valjean there was very weak but Keith Rice as Javert was comparable to Quast. He put on an unbelievable performance that I only wish I could have a recording of.
