well done! I LOVE the tenor banjo! I'm a fiddler who always wanted to pick, and when I got my banjo, I unfortunately bought a 5 string thinking I'd be doing more bluegrass, but then I realized my grave mistake... TENOR ALL THE WAY!!!!
Thanks for the reply!!! If you want you can put in Tom Saffell or Plaidgrass in the Youtube search to see my attempt at playing Celtic banjo. I really do love your style!! Keep up the good work!!!!
i agree with your comment on gerry oconnor he strays of the melody too often doing his add ons and these are traditional tunes in my book it ruins the tune no doubt he is a brilliant player you have to know the tune inside out upside down to do what he does what you do with gravel walks is great you dont even need a guitar playing chords!! look forward to your next tune.
I particularly value you comments on Gerry O'Connor. My feeling is he is too good, over produced, and looses something off the integrity of the tunes by an 'over-mannaged' style. (One might even use the phrase: accountancy playing, because the attention to the number and clarity of notes. Too clinical.
Excellent work there... and intriguing too: I often hear unaccompanied banjo and think the single note style sounds a bit thin without some harmonic backing. But you seem to whack in a chord every so often... I'm not sure exactly how you're doing it - could you give me a brief breakdown of your technique. You might just gain a new recruit to the legions of the tenor banjo...
Thanks for you kind words. It really is a question as you summise of learning the tune and chucking in a few chords. This tune lends itself particularily well because it is in A. It allows you to hammer the chord at in the first section adding the harmonic texture and giving it a 'thick' sound. Other than that, it is a matter of playing as many tripplets as possible, and as fast as possible, and slipping in a few symphatic strings.
Bad Ass M F er. Must have sold your soul.

is this a regular tenor or an irish tenor?

its a short scale tenor - usually favoured by jazz players and those who like to travel light
