Beautiful set up! great explanations! The challenge I have is rolling with the other guy having no gi so the gi choke isn't there. I work for the mata leo and the guy holds locking hand (previously controlling his wrist) under his arm pit. Any suggestions?
I need help troubleshooting this move against someone significantly bigger and strongly than me(30 kg / 66 lbs difference). After I trapped his arm with my leg, he managed forcefully reach with the trapped hand to defend the strangle, thus immobilizing both my leg and maintaining a grip on the choking hand. Anything I can do from there?
@MikkoTV have you ever been twistered its not a spine or neck crank its not that dangerous unless your opponent doesnt let go after you tap like any other submission
@Nola213 Saying a hand-to-hand combat technique has no defense is always sketchy. Rather than pulling the choking arm as far away as you can, you only need enough room to pop the arm over your head. If you pop it up and over to the opposite side of your head (in this case the right side), you can now either (a) attempt an arm lock - pull back to the left or (b) block with a sensor elbow on the left. And you can still try to gator roll out of juji gatame.
@Nola213 Oh, of course. Not giving up your back is about a good a defense to this as you could manage. My point was mostly when people make blanket comments to the effect of, "it's game over when you do this to your opponent" is just garbage. There's always a counter. Whether or not it's an easy counter or you manage to pull it off, is a different story.
@gabrielsburg True, true. I agree with you there. I'm just saying they never showed a possible defense to this, as it is a double attack. So it appears it is impossible as Rener says, from his own mouth. It's like having a man behind you and infront of you of equal skill. There is no way you can beat them both, hence no defense. But yea anything can happen, and I'm sure if the guy who has your back makes a mistake or you are better you CAN get out of this.
@gabrielsburg That is true! I belivie that there is almost always an escape, the only time when there is no escape is when the adversery is neutralizing all of your escape attemtps. That is the point with this technique, the choker is netralizing all possible ways for the opponent to defend against the choke and the armbar, and the ultimate fighter is a fighter who always neutralize the opponents escapes/attacks/defence!!!
oh... my... god... i've seen the gracie combatives white belt curriculum, but haven't seen the blue belt version yet. seriously, i want to see this fast, but on DVD! do you know when we can get our hands on it guys? :)
I love Blue Belt techniques, the reflex development and submission combos are endless. I feel like Blue > Purple is the biggest growing process in GJJ.
White > Blue is all developing basic skills.
While Purple through to Black is about refining everything you have learned, and putting everything together in your own style.
@lsv8dubs while rener is very good, ryron is older and is a higher degree than rener is. plus in one of the graciebreakdown videos ryron wore a shirt that said "i tapped rener"!
@lsv8dubs Rener is more charismatic but Ryron is more technical in the Jiu-Jitsu department. I wonder if they covet each others "gifts"... In the end, they are both exceptional at what they do.
@em729 not so much the same...a yellow belt is given to younger kids...they still have to go through orange and green before they get to blue...now in most schools if your around 15 or 16 and start you'll go from white to blue but you can count on someone who went through yellow orange and green to be better by the time they hit blue, than someone who went from white to blue...did this answer your question or just confuse you..?
@em729 In BJJ Yellow, Orange and Green are the kids belts, after Green you can become blue once your 16. In some other Ju Jutsus Yellow is the first belt, but I have never the skill level comparable to that of a Blue belt. So I would say no Yellow is not the same, but good job and keep working at it.
@em729 Just as others have explained, Yellow , orange, an green are youth Belts in Brazilian Jiujitsu for the most part. I have seen some schools use the above 3in the adults class before. Also in some schools if you are a orange belt and turn 16 you might be given a Purple, a yellow might be given a Blue... really depends on the teacher and your time training. Congrats though!!
Phenomenal instruction! Top notch

@gabrielsburg Your right. I guess the best defense is not to give up your back? Or get yourself tied in a knot.
But at this point with Ryron on your back, you pretty much screwed.
