Sorry i know you trying to eliminate corruption in our government but the fact of the matter is, the bigger the government the bigger the corruption. no amounts of laws can change that its just the way society is. solution to the problem is lessen the power of the government and strengthen the power of the people. don't give power to government saying its on behalf of the people, let the power start directly with the public and not through government. let everyone be their OWN GOVERNMENT
The USA is A Representrd Republic. Not a Democrocy, Not A Mob Rule society! IS free speach at risk? From Who? Democrats? Socialist? Corporations? Is Capitalism in Danger?IS this woman advocating Fascism?
The Supreme Court allows corporations to get away with all manner of abuses--in the name of defending their "constitutional rights." We need a Constitutional Amendment to abolish "Corporate Personhood" and ban corporations from politics.
If unions weren't busted and minimum wage was REAL, this might be a non-issue. Absurd CEO bonuses pertain to the duty a corp owes its shareholders, etc. THAT should be regulated. You can't just curtail speech, even a corp's, but an Amendment for ALL campaign finance would be appropriate and constitutionally harmonious. Put a $500 cap on individual direct contributions; it promotes equality and its a lot of money. Eliminate everything else and make the total ceiling $500 times the # voters.
Totally for that. Corporations need to be put in check.
It'd just be nice if she where honest enough to come out and say now that the supreme court isn't voting our way (roe v wade ect) now we're constitutionalists.
The day that the Supreme Court decided that Corporations will run the country started the Revolution.
It will be manifest by the 28th Amendment and by people in the streets. Shareholders and Union members must take control of the Unions and corporations.
Its going to take more than a amendment for people tho realize what is happening and the seriously danger of corporate campaign finance, our government has betrayed us, its time to take to the streets, the people need to be shaken out of their complacency.
If not, expect to see Sarah Palin(or any other whore for that matter) running for president, with unlimited funds and backed by the most powerful corporations and the ignorant masses of America.
Clinton was as corrupt as the rest of them. And Bush went into office with plans for Iraq. He was having that war regardless. No weapons of mass destruction, no Taliban...not till AFTER he invaded. I won't even get started on the hundreds of millions in no bid contracts that went to Haliburton. Dill Hole? CrackGrow up son? @jch450 Since you commmented then removed I put your comment back.
1. CLINTON hired Haliburton just as much as Bush. They are the BEST at what they do. ANd they make pretty damned small profit margins for it.
2. Sadam sponsored terrorism. We got the cancelled checks to prove it.
3. WND there were plenty found. Rest probablu ended up in Syria. We gave them month to move them. Iraw.. Whatever. The war was a success. A masmurdering sccum is gone. The people won.
PBrandonPDX, you are aware that Obama raised more money for his campaign than any other candidate in history? To this day, full disclosure of sources of that money has not been entirely disclosed to the public.
@RedlineNightRider: You know that almost all of the privite donations were done over the internet, right? So, unless you start tracking down every single IP address down, it's impossible to find out who donated. :( That's why you can't find records on most of it but I found this with google in a few seconds.
@CalicoVall Let me ask you. Are you saying that you are OK with that? Did we forget the thousands of people who had their credit cards debited for campaign contrinutions by the Obama Campaign who never authorized that? We call that fraud. No one seems to care about that in this group of loons.
So it is OK for Unions to put billions into elections but not companies? What a joke. These peopel are lying.... The only thing the US Supreme court has done is toss out the violations of free speach the McCain Feingold put on the people. The extremist are out there lying to you... The Supreme Court has allowed our country to have our political system infiltrated by foreign powers. Foreign corporations, some controlled by other governments, now have the ability to influence our government. All the righties out there need to see this for what it is. But then again, most of you would like nothing better than selling out our government to corporate power. What has the Republican party done for the middle class? Medicare? No. Social Security? No. Getting us in debt? Yes!
Currently, neither party is doing a thing to represent the people. Both parties incur debt that'll destroy this nation - difference is the scale to which increases that debt ($10 trillion in 100 years versus +$5.6 trillion in 2009-2011) for one administration.
If you banned any affiliation to any party, the representatives would be forced to be local politicians serving their local town, state - working directly for their constituents - instead of party leaders or both taking corp. money.
Look up the stats on corporate money given to Dems and Repubs. Neither are representing the people in the republic.
Ban all parties, all affiliations, all meetings by divided groups and you'll get the representatives working at the local level - which is true representation.
The progressive movement has infiltrated up both parties - incurring more and more debt, foreign entanglement, all to destroy and reorganize as a single centralized world power. To oppose that, you would need read above.
@PBrandonPDX Getting us in Debt? The Republican Party? Dude. I've seen people on crack. You are seriously one of the biggest crackheads I have ever read. The Democrats, who control ALL of congress have put us on a path of the largest debt and defecits in the entire course of the History of the country COMBINED in just three years... Seriously. To blame the RNC fdor these debts in insanity. You're a moron.
@jah450. Ohhhh, well you're a big poopie head. The budget is, ultimately, the responsibility of the president. When Clinton left office there was a 127 Billion dollar budget surplus. When Bush left office there was a 1.7 Trillion dollar budget deficit. He was responsible for the largest socialist bailout of business the world has ever seen. In addition, he started two wars that he didn't pay for and thought that cutting taxes on the wealthy would somehow pay for it. That worked well.
@PBrandonPDX NO Imbecile. The budget is a huge law. It, by CONSTITUTIONAL authority is started in The US House of Representatives, There it is voted on and passed to the Senate. The senate must pass that version or pass its own then if the bills are different conference committee will decide the final version which must be then passed by BOTH houses. The president signs it. So CLINTON's Balanced budget occured under REPUBLICAN house and SENATE. All he did was sign the dammed thing.
@jch450 Part II. Bush was handed two wars. He did not go looking for them. Even Barrack Hussein Obama agreed comlpetely with the Afganistahn war. BOTH houses voted from and approved action on BOTH wars. Sorry can't do a war with Congressional approval as THEY decide what gets paid for, Now ni the last 5 years DEMOCRATS have run the House of Representatives. As such the Massive spending sprees have ALL been under DEMOCRAT congressional Control. Dude. Go take a high school government class.
Have you heard of the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921? No? Here's a little summary: Congressional consideration of the federal budget begins once the President of the United States submits a budget request, which is formulated over a period of months with the assistance of the Office of Management and Budget, the largest office within the Executive Office of the President.
Starts with the President. I'd draw you a diagram of the process but I doubt it would help you.
@PBrandonPDX Oh dear god. You're delusional. NO Presidential Budget is giving more than five minutes of time. The budget of the President is a "wish list" that is delivered to the congressional trashcans so fast that they might as well never even bother to publish it. Sorry if you are too trying to confuse a nearly 100 yaer old act with the reality oif what actually happens. ALL revenue bills BY Constitution (note not some act but the REAL law of our country) have to start in the house.
@PBrandonPDX Hell Dill hole... Go look up "Lippo Group" and how THAT foreign Corporation funnels Millions to the CLinton campaign. Then go look up UTAH Copper Mining and how Clinton removed millions of acres un Utah from mining.. What does LIPPO do? They mine Copper, in Indonesia. Ask Cliton about money from Budhist Monks. I suggest you grow up son. You got a lot of learning to do. Ignorance is not a family value. Your sickeningly ignorant.
Clinton was as corrupt as the rest of them. And Bush went into office with plans for Iraq. He was having that war regardless. No weapons of mass destruction, no Taliban...not till AFTER he invaded. Actually, would love to see more publicity about this than you. Maybe you're ok with violating separation of powers and violation of free speech in contradicting the First Amendment with this proposed 28th. But the significant problem with this Amendment is that it's taxation without representation - meaning, you legislate that a person who you shall tax shall not have free speech. That's a violation of the Constitution itself.

Alright, she's leading the way. It's now up to the rest of us to do our share. Get the petitions started. Call her and Conyer's office for a copy of the right format, and hit the streets en masse.
Why does Representative Edwards (D) call the Supreme Court activists when in the video she says, "during my activist days" @ 1:49?
In the history of the US, there was a time when the Democrats singled out a portion of the population (just as this Amendment would single out certain persons against free speech) and denied African Americans the right to vote. The Democrats did this with the Jim Crow laws they crafted in the last century.
You mean like getting socialized health care passed? How's that working for you? The Jim Crow laws didn't work out so well for your party. Nor did trying to keep African Americans as slave work out for your party either.
The Citizens United ruling by SCOTUS affirmed the free speech rights of ALL persons enumerated in the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment.
This proposed 28th Amendment would violate the First Amendment - regardless if it is written to deny the obvious logic. For example, say I write into law that I can beat up people I don't like, but that action does not abridge those peoples' right to not be beat up. Garbage.
Thank you Congresswoman Donna Edwards for standing up for the American people and our constitution when the SCOTUS gave the corporations control of our democracy!
I know the wealthy whites hate this woman!
