  • this was great and I miss these days

  • Me encantan esas promos de MiniMax

  • How many channels did they have and was this on more then one satellite? I thought sats had 24 transponders (or 32) the encryption almost looks like Leech!

  • I probably was watching Sat1 that night. xxx lol

  • yeah! inspector gadget!! :D

  • I miss all the foreign channels

  • MTV!!! YES!!!

  • What encryption did they use? In spain on analog terrestial tv we used Nagra 1, and in Canal Satelite i think it was Seca 2 (Mediaguard 1)

  • @bocatablanco Canal Satelite Espana used Syster Nagravision encryption to scramble the channels.

  • when delay in picture ocours, are those channels scrambled?

  • Wow thats real interesting from the year I was born :)

  • Good Times!!! Very Nice!!! Thank you for uploading!!! :))

  • wow it's amazing with what receiver you have record that..?

  • @2.45 - No 27 SAT1. Why did the channel surfing continue?!!

  • Which were the channels up to c. 0:50?

  • excellent days of quality tv viewing .... now we have 1000 of channels and nothing to watch...in the 90s there was 30 good ones everyone in europe wanted to have !!! ..

  • The beautifully old days of the satellite televisions :)

  • Haha this was my 3rd birthday!!

  • i loved my anologue sky

  • I have a channel surf video in my loft somewhere. It was from telewest, about 1998.

  • wtf is happening at 1:47 - 1:52?

  • LOL at the cellphone fax on ch 9.

  • Ah... what a nice glimpse of TV in 1994. How cool that actually people recorded a "surfing through the channels".

  • Its very Goooood!!

  • Great TV surf of the good old analogue Astra Times! A pity that the receiver switched to Bluescreen on RTL4 it had a seldom scrambling, also FilmNet. Also Spanisch TV stations were on air this time: MiniMax, Cinemaina, Documania etc. For more than 10 years the completeley turned to DVB-S transmission.

BTW: The German Free TV stations (e.g. Sat1, Pro7, ARD, ZDF, n-tv and others) are still on air now via analogue Astra tx. And 2 English speaking Px: CNN and Eurosport :-)

  • Superb snapshot of how analogue satellite TV used to be. I did something similar too - doubt I could find the tape now. Those were the days when channels in the clear had pure picture quality, and the scrambled channels had like dot-crawl residue.

  • MTV used to be one of my best channels back then.

  • If I'm not mistaken, was the Mini Max channel--Spanish--a family/cartoon station?

Where did that channel originate from?

    Just curious...

  • why does it have please wait and a scrembled screen ?

  • Videogypt encyption ;)

  • Pity you didn't leave Sat.1 on for a bit longer

  • I didn't know you were able to get German television with Sky back then...

  • You could get German Televison on Sky Analouge because both the German Stations and Sky were both based on the Astra sattelites.

  • all those foreign channles

  • in 2003, when Nihon Sport ceased OTA(Over the air) Operations in Japan and renamed to ESPN International the following day, ASTRA successfully made a negotiation with the japanese network and transmitted over EUROSPORT from it's administrative invasion in 1995

  • 2 Things I like about this, MTV Europe has Euro Pop and Sat 1 had an Erotic Movie. Sky Digital Sucks!

  • Both still exist and sat1 still has some porn at times

  • Can I ask why...

some of the channels dont have logos?

    their is no search-and-scan banner?

half the channels are german (and they ALL have logos, even the analogue terrestrials)?

  • Not all channels used idents, though it was common for all German Networks to use Idents way before the British Channels. There is no search and scan banner beause this was Analogue not Digital. Majority of channels were German I think German Media has always been ahead of its time. Today the same Orbit position is still largely used by Germany.

  • It is curious that ALL the german channels (every last one of them has a logo) here though

  • Funny to see how a home shopping channel is scrambled (QVC) - we don't want orders from customers who don't pay sky subscription ;)

  • Didn't they go FTA in the end? I remember them being encrypted initially but I think they went clear after a few years. I maybe wrong though.

  • @tripleseis81 QVC started as a full subscription channel in the BSkyB multichannels and Multichoice Kaleidescope packages with full Videocrypt I and II dual encryption, then after a bit they went free-to-view soft scrambled(decoder but no card required), then went totally clear PAL;and when they did that they threw open their orderlines to European viewers watching all over the continent to order products(but viewers in Europe couldn't order electrical stuff because of voltage differences).

  • I think QVC was encrypted more to market The Sky Multichannels

  • No.

  • Intresting! I think I used had something like that!

  • The 2 mtvs scenario... was quite bizarre - one ended up being vh-1 (22 only after they encrypted mtv) Also funny was tv asia doing the blocked card thing and being viewable for 2 secs. JSTV always used to come up with incorrect card due to being VC II(was one time where top half was clear and bottom encrypted)

  • TV Asia was soft encypted like MTV Germany

  • MTV when it shock horror actually had music on it. Lol thanks for this great upload.

  • Those were the days!

  • Ah ok , sorry about this error :(

  • Sky was on 19.2E until 1998 when the main digital service was placed onto the brand new Astra 2 fleet.

  • Sky Channels @ Astra1? Weird i think is Astra2 28.5

  • Nope, afraid you are wrong cause you can still get it on analogue including the upcoming world title fights with Skelton vs Chagaev and Klitchko vs the other guy. All for free on ZDF analogue satellite!

  • fajnie ze mozna tu obejrzec takie filmiki przypominaja sie dawne czasy.

  • yeah...TNT...i have seen WCW on there...good times.

  • What happened to Minimax?

  • Got replaced by Nickelodeon Spain I think. They had a Nickelodeon strand on Minimax for a while before Canal Satelite went digital in the late 90s. Then I think shortly afterwards Minimax closed. Minimax still broadcasts to Poland and Hungary AFAIK.

  • @tripleseis81 Not anymore, Minimax had finished broadcasting circa 2006... then Nickelodeon entered the market. /Poland

  • Great upload!. I did have a similar channel surf but from May 1998 and on Cable and Wireless. Nice to see the old TNT logo. The only foreign channels I had were Zee TV, Rai Uno, TVE

  • hey could you please upload the C&W surf please as i used to have that back then. i have done one from eurovox cable box channel surfing if you want to check it out
