  • Our politicians and military failed us. These people (vietnamese)should have been left alone! You would think we would have learned an excruciatingly painful lesson from Vietnam. Yet we continue the folly in afghanistan which no foreign power has completely conquered in 2500 years. More lives wasted and hundreds of billions pissed away.

  • I wasn't there. Read a little of the tunnels. We never knew just how extensive they were, the camouflaged entrances and passageways were way too small for most caucasian troops. I've changed my mind and opinion recently based on this tunnel network; the war could not have been won unless we killed millions by bombing raids, not thousands and the survivors would end up hating us. the legacy for us, over 58,000 died and more maimed for NOTHING! over 140 BILLION dollars from the U.S. treasury.

  • Lol

  • Going in those dark dark tunnels........

That'll take away my manhood. I'll be

    Screamin jeebees

  • they r like suicide bombers for iraq. they no they gonna die and the odds r very much against them but its something that has to be done

  • too bad for vietnam they fought on the wrong side. communism *sigh*

  • @jebcarlo1 that is the only choice we have to get independence from France and U.S

  • @001Dixie YEAHHHHHHH, lets salute them for killing innocent people, and freedom fighters, yayyyyyyyyyy so good!

  • @Denmarkpwns suck my ridges

  • it's a terrible "job", poor guys!

  • Where is this guitar song?

  • "If these walls could talk."

  • @001Dixie more like morons. Ha

  • certified bad ass mother fuckers. god bless these men

  • Thanks....I think!!???

  • is this real footage?

  • @kungfoolai All the color footage was shot in Vietnam during the war. The B/W footage are clips of a military training film made during the war.

  • @kungfoolai Nope, it's fake which makes me wonder how you can even see it.

  • Song name?

  • "Las ratas de tunel" eran en su mayoria inmigrantes tales como , mexicanos, colombianos etc.

  • Cool! Forrest Gump was a tunnel rat, haha

  • God bless the tunnel rats.. i want to be an army ranger but hell i would rather do that than be tunnel rat.IT takes the most courages man/men to do that

  • @nicksalemno Thumbs up and hats off to your remark. It takes a lot of courage and clarity of mind to write like that.

  • 11 pop up points. never find, you lose...! 308

  • someone knows the name of the song? nice video btw

  • These guys must have been shitting their pants when they got in one of those things, They were brave.

  • @Master231285

Master, Eres un idiota. Los soldados en Vietnam solo estaban haciendo el trabajo que les dieron. Si hay culpa, es el gobierno que es responsable. Pero no quiero oyir tus quejas cuando tu pais tenga necesidad y pida ayuda!

TRANSLATION: MASTER, YOU ARE AN IDIOT. THE SOLDIERS IN VIETNAM WERE ONLY DOING THE JOB THEY WERE TOLD TO DO. IF THERE IS ANY BLAME, IT IS THE GOVERNMENT THAT IS RESPONSIBLE. BUT I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR COMLAINTS WHEN YOUR COUNTRY IS IN NEED AND ASKS FOR HELP!

  • It takes balls bigger than the Jupiter to get into a tunnel like that

  • Those tunnel rats had buku balls going into a tunnel with a flaslight and a M1911 45. pistol and the tunnels were so big lobbin in gernades didnt really do shit.I saw a pic of this machine that pumped CS gas into the tunnels but it said it was ineffective,The tunnels of cu-chi is a great book if you want to read about these brave men and their techniques

  • @TheRalphus666 I read that book back in the late 80s. They had so many systems in there to stop gas and get the Rats lost. Really well engineered. Even the free fire zone established for returning combat aircraft didn't shut it down.

  • @001Dixie Yeah. Not like the demoralized marines in Iraq.

  • that job takes balls

  • They did blow up the tunnels but then somebody from military inteligence went into the tunnel to look for information and take body counts. My plumber used to do this, once he went into a tunnel with an entire live division in it. It was pitch black and the north vietmanese did not know he was American. He stayed for a day not eating or moving then cut the throats of the guys on each side of him, got out and had the tunnel filled with diesel and blown up.

  • I saw this in history today.

  • why didn't they gas the tunnels and collapse them with a few well placed explosives?

  • @73mandala the tunnels were to heavily fortified :)

  • @73mandala if u gonna to explosive the tunnel than they won't know where the rest of tunnel...

  • ...these soldiers were some true badasses. I can't even imagine what they saw and went through.

  • my grandfather colonel Saunders has fought vietnam war. The conditions out there was so difficult and watever u can imagine can only be 1% of it. All people please don't hurt the feelings of great soldiers who were there and fought for us.Just by watching movies and videos you are giving your expert comments.....i request you all not to do this.

  • my dads friend was a tunnel rat who went on like 5 or 6 tours during the war he had some very messed up stories

  • my uncle was a tunnel rat

one of the first infantry's in NAM

He hasnt told me til now

many horror stories and he has nightmares about it it really sucks.

  • i was there too my mean objective is to penetrate the vc lair and to bomb the tunnel do you believe me?

  • It's great to hear all the positive comments....Thanks......I wish more Tunnel Rats would tell their stories.I had a GREAT platoon doing the same thing I was doing.....so I know there some out there. there....Please write...... C4Steve

  • Thank you for the kind words.C4Steve

  • To this day,my tunnel rat experience is the single most amzing thing I ever did in my life!!!! I'm 61 years old and was 19 years old at the time.I will never forget the feeling of starring up at the ceiling of the tunnel which was only 4-6 from my face!! C4Steve

  • Hey man did the gurkha cotribute n nam?

  • No gurkhas ever were tunnel rats.

  • It was all American and Aussies who did tunnel clearing ops.Forget about it just being small guys,I was 6ft and 165 lbs and had no problem getting in those spaces...C4Steve

  • sounds like a nightmare steve... youve got my respect...

  • How many people have you killed?

  • It took me a while to answer this ... I have looked down the sights of a rifle at another humanbeing and pulled the trigger. How many people I killed is not relevent to this venue.I have no idea how many people I killed and don't care. And bye the way.. it is a terrible question to ask!

  • And killings a terrible thing to do...Especially for the reasons America went there for.

  • The reasons were? I was there to survie.Nothing more,nothing less! C4Steve

  • How was it to be in vietnam, we are having a project about it and want to know. If you have a some stories, please write in my channel sgtegart. I am very interrested...

  • What kind of project are you talking about? There are already many stories on this and other similar sites. What do you want to know? There are no dumb questions.C4Steve

  • We are having about why the vietnam war was so long-drawn. We know something about the Vietcong hiding in thoes tunnels for the americans, and just ambushing and laying traps for them. Then we found out a group of "aussies" and americans got down in the tunnels for them.

But the only thing we need to know really is, how it was for the average soldier in Vietnam. And since you where a tunnel rat, then you could also answer us on how the vietcong could be in thoes tunnels for months

  • My Grandpa was a tunnel rat in Vietnam.

He told me was pretty crazy storys.0_0

  • "Smallest men with the biggest COJONES"

  • Bravest men ever.

  • sometime not all the vc tunnel. this tunnel maybe belong to a family that kids hidding to avoid bullets or bombs.

  • Why didn't they just grenade the tunnel??The Hell with risking a U.S.soldier just to find a few gooks or a booby trap!

  • @Doughnutchef

They tunnels were often very long, sometimes hundreds of meters. A grenade would not do much, as the tunnels always had many consealed entrances. They could sometimes even whitstand heavy bombardment, and even if they would not, how should the army know where to shot/plant demolitions?

  • lawlllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rofl u made my day

  • I consider myself a tough cookie fearless but no way i would do that job it smells of a disaster waiting to happen. Booby traps, vc, unknown paths, confined spaces, and doing this with light weaponry(pistol) in the enemies backyard. Brave men that deserve respect.

  • @sexymalcom1970 and the respect of the enemy who dig that tunnel to defend their country

  • These guys were little guys with balls of steel.

  • i've such tunnel my self...in my backyard...

    it is scary.

  • Wow there some stupid people here...think they been playing too many video games ...haa haa using flamethrower in tunnel

  • Nope. No video games back then...

  • wow a flamethrower...thats a good way to suffocate/be burned to a smoldering hunk of meat

  • i say you shoots some napalm in there and blow the entrenche, hoping you'll trap the Rats.

  • tunnel rats job was hard alot of the tunnels were small so all they can carry was a pistol and flashlight

  • my uncle was a tunnel rat, he used a flamethrower.

  • Gee... Many consider me to be a incredible brave person. But NO way I'd even go into that tunnel!

Nothing but much respect for those men who have the guts to take on such job. I really look up to them and admire them for what they did.

  • Anybody happen to know how the doors that concealed the entrances to these tunnels were made?

  • im pretty sure some were made of bamboo tied together and covered in leaves

  • i can't imagine the bravery these men had to do this.

  • 5*****

  • @YourTubeAct You are an idiot

  • These men must have had nerves, made out of steel! Propably the most dangerous job in this war!

  • poison gas and flame-throwers are both considered war crimes

  • Napalm too...

  • Zerg => Bury

  • y didnt they just use flamethrowers or poison gas or something?

  • this is one of things that impressed me the most from Vitenam War. The pure terror of having the enemy under your feet. And going into the tunnels like a blind mole. Those must be mind-startling experiences.

  • what are " booby traps" or what ever???

  • a booby trap was a type of trap used by the vietcong forces under the the vietnam war. it could be to sticks stucked in the ground, where there were a handgranate in one of them and then there was a wire from the trigger to the other stick. when you step by, the trigger would pull out and the granate would explode.a booby trap is hidden in the under forrest. wanna know more? just ask! i hope it was a help.

  • oh okay, thanks that was informativ. Sorry but thats interesting in some way. What human came to mind to kill an other. =( Sad but in one way awesome

  • i spent 15 minutes in the tunnels, fun at first but freaked out. The heat and the space constrain... just terrible. Salute to the tunnel rats

  • the biggest balls

  • Im 16 and found out not to long ago that my father was a Navy Seal/Tunnel Rat in the Vietnam War, thought that was pretty cool

  • Your dad is a brave man

  • Good man.

  • Crazy fucking guys, nothing but respect.

  • Its pretty tuf dicking. in the cu chi area, the earth is almost like rocks.

  • *tuff

  • *tough

  • all right...thanks

  • they had tunnels in 3 lagers! 30 meters below the surface and 200 kilometers of tunnel...pretty wild

  • nothing but respect for those T-Rats...

    3rd Batt. 7th Marines ChuLai,RVN 10/65-11/66

  • aren't there another vid wich miltary also had made with tunnel rats? if the answer is yes, please tell me the name

  • The Vietnamese not only dug tunnels they even had entire field hospitals and recreation facilities in some of the larger tunnel complexes.

  • I was Tunnel Rat with the 9 ID.We cleared 2 complexs about 400 yds apart. Both had been major hospitals, but abondoned when we got to them after Tet.Spring 68

  • @sgtegart It had to take some balls to do what you did, much respect

  • @sgtegart yeah I got great respect for all Tunnel rats truley brave men!!

  • @sgtegart you must have balls of steel, that's one job i could never do. I couldn't think of a more frightening job in the military, then that of a vietnam tunnel rat.

  • @sgtegart - How scary was that job?

  • @RustedCaltrop It was the most terriffying thing I have ever done.Only a fool would not be afraid!. In one of the tunnels I was in I was on my back just kind of squerming my way through. The roof was only a few inches from my face and the tips of my boots were scraping the roof.I came sooooo close to panicing!!!! Anyway I got out ok,but still remember it like it was yesterday.Steve

  • @sgtegart

    I salute you.

  • @sgtegart thank you so much for your service.

  • @callmesn0rlax Thank you so much for the kind words. At the time,it was a pretty thankless job.C4Steve

  • @sgtegart your a brave man...I salute you

  • @sgtegart shit that must have been scary being in the tunnels

  • @sgtegart i adore you

  • @KanaCanaful you must adore the people who lived in these tunnel for years. imagine the temperature, humility, the insects, snake ect... where can they find foods and up above was the hunting of U.S army.

  • @TKNMT A Tunnel Rats are American, Australian, and New Zealand soldiers trained to clear tunnels in Vietnam. Tunnel Rats are not Viet Cong.

  • @TKNMT The Tunnel Rats were American, Australian, and New Zealand soldiers trained to clear out those tunnels. Check your facts.

  • and vietcong kill them like rats....

  • @ManOfConsequences yes sadly, i was just trying to tell TKNMT that tunnel rats were not viet cong

  • They could dismantle an artilery piece and take it down the tunnels with them then take it out asemble it again and fire it and take it apart and take it down the tunnel again very ingenious people but they sufered terible ,war sucks for both sides,

  • Balls of steel just to look in the hole let alone go down.

  • wow! look how the vietcong skillfuly made those tunnels..that is why the us army could not defeat them....

  • "clear the tunnel rats out with a grenade lol"

If only if it was that easy.. Lol, They couldn't because the viet's would dig holes that would go down for miles so it was pretty much Useless..

  • Go get em!

  • clear the tunnel rats out with a grenade lol

  • actually any kinda gas or granade wouldn't work for some tunnels cuz they straight down kinda like a well full a water, but if you duck under the water there's a underwater passage way and then it starts to curve up again and boom ur in the tunnel. I read it in the book by dennis foley " night work". good book.

  • thankyou for the info ill check out that book

  • actually it's a trilogy of books kinda. the first one is called long range patrol. then night work. then take back the night. all are written by dennis foley, a former lt col who was a ranger in vietnam.

i'm currently reading the second one " night work". good stuff.

  • The VC would dig a U in the floor,a few feet deep and then angle back up a few feet later.Water would go in the U and block any CS or smoke grenades from entering the rest of the complex. When we found one of these,we said ok,far enough.Pack some C4 into the opening and BOOM.Fuck the rest of it.Truth.

  • yep. VC had to duck there heads underwater to get inside.

nice to see somebody on youtube who knows what they are talking about.

  • Thanks for the kind words! At the time,it was a pretty thankless job.

  • i would pump tonnes of CS gas inside to kill any VC and make the hole bigger

  • muito bom e instrutivo só havia visto em filmes, porem não uma filmagem real.

  • I wouldn`t go in for millions of dollars.

    poor soldiers!

  • respect.

  • I was a Combat Engineer with 9TH Inf Div in VietNam.Just one of my jobs was that of Tunnel Rat.I also blew up alot of stuff.I knew I'd done something special being Tunnel Rat.BUT,no more special then what a Combat Infantryman does everyday in combat. We were a team. One more thing.... I was 6ft and 160#... what counted was guts.

  • Wow! This is the first time I've seen how narrow those tunnels were. Amazing courage!

  • great and rare video ,5 stars.

  • whats that guitar song in the background?

    awesome video btw

  • these were fearless mutherfuckers- period!

  • Sweet video. They guys are so brave.

  • So much courage....

  • tunnel rats are as hardcore as it got.
