It was a challeng just getting through the zone some days. Soon the expantions came and people moved on to new lands. One by one as the expantions came, the population thinned. I quit playing a few months after PoP. The game had lost everything it used to be. I found myself alone more often than not. What I would not give for the old days.

That would be Spirit of Eagle, before they removed the 'bob'. It just happened that the day that they implemented the zone change, there was a bug that if you zoned in from Kithicor you would go to the old zone(s) instead of the new one, so I took that opportunity to record the comparison video before they fixed the bug.
Just goes to show, once you sell something to a big corporation they like to mess things up. "Let's fix the commonlands", "But it's not broke" "Fix it anyway."
Verant went the right direction, sony took over and decided to make everything easier with portals, made the game so much smaller with them PoK stones, thats when I quit playing. Bring in an EQ classic server (pre luclin) and I'll definately come back!
I need to see a video of how packed the tunnel in the commonlands near freeport used to be. it was home to me, trying to sell my shit off.......now I bet its empty
The revamp that would have been great is if they went to *vector* graphics and just kept the actual design quite close to the same. The Combine servers rolled out the game again, one expansion at a time, so it was great. People were in EC again! Really showed how EC *created* EQ community.
I dont mind the Commonland updates personally I think they look very good. The zone itself is much the same as it always was just a little more airbrushed to bring it up to date. The update I hated was Freeport as in adding their fancy graphics they forgot to make the zone charming like it used to be. It is just a barron clusterfuck.
Lol, why did someone negative comment you. That's actually funny. I remember back in those days when people actually did trading in EC.. and people were always selling the horribles. When Kunark first came out.. I remember being such a noob, and thinking gold was so valuable. Haha.
I remember back in the old days when the EAST commonlands was the Bazaar of its time, people would gather there and do thier trades in the tunnel. But that was wayyyyy back then
I know I'm probably in the minority, but I prefer the old commonlands. I spent so many hours in EC when it was the social hub of the old world. This was very nice. Thank you.

Everquest 1 still has servers up. You'll never be able to play the original without all the changes without a private server though. :(

Wow, I've stopped playing EQ since pre-DoN days and I must say commonlands looks graphically enhanced now.
But then, EQ never really needed any graphic changes back in the old days for it to be one of the best MMORPGs of the century.
