It was my understanding that it was his brother who had a stuttering problem. When they were mixing this song in the studio, he took a cassette tape home to rehearse some quitar licks and recorded this vocal as a joke. At first everyone laughed but after hearing it sung straight they decided to go ahead and use the stuttering sound of the final mix! This is the story I read about that vocal came to be.

Yes I pal gave me a copy about seven years ago. From what I understand Burton Cumming and Randy Bachman could not stand each other at the time. Burton Cumming's recorded the song to make fun of BTO's music. I think this is their best song.
