  • Everybody has opinions, does that persons opinion matter to you? In my opinion, when we start making a compition out of something, we ruin the original sport. We must ride for ourselves and enjoy what we do. Also sometimes training means we do the complete opposite of what we might usually do with a horse. I look at this video and see him just working with the horse he has. Not every movement is good or great, but the patience and tact of the rider is (for me) beautiful to watch.

  • Here in the beginning when moving sideways, the haunches are coming before shoulders in some steps, but in his book "Reflections on equestrian art" he emphasizes that this isn´t right. Can someone explain me this?

  • @kingzana This is training. The video isn't edited for perfection. Neither is it a horse that Nuno has trained - it is one that he rode when he visited Perth a few times a year but the horse does not always react perfectly to the riders requests. Also, if you transition from renvers to half pass and then into renvers again the hindquarter will advance ahead of the shoulders - this is correct for the transition but not for the half pass.

  • How dare Randy Byers attempt to compare his self to this master. Randy Byers is a horse abuser, compulsive lier and idiot. He knows nothing. He's a waste of space and has no compassion for the horse. I'm sure Nuno would be rolling over in his grave knowing that this narcissistic person is trying to compare himself to this great dressage master.

  • Classical Dressage, Modern Dressage are not the same the training of each is different. Mr Olivera was, the best Classical rider of his era as is the Spanish Riding School, this is becoming a lost art. Taking the horse at his own pace is how it should be done. This takes considerable time and as Classical is becoming a buzz word in the Dressage arena then, as a classical trainer and rider of the SRS and Olivera persasion, and being old also I fear for Dressage's future. We need more of this.

  • I have actually been having lessons with one of his former students

  • ooh i ride there all the time, but the walls are now a light blue colour, and the floor is different, i kinda liked the old floor better, but the blue walls makes it look bigger and brighter, its alot more nicer looking now :)

have a vid of me riding in it, if ya wanna see the new walls

  • Thank you so much for this video..... I'm fortunate enough to have lessons with Eleanor Russell who studied with Nuno

  • Un merveilleux cavalier qui n'a pas attendu le marketing des "chuchoteurs" pour dire qu'il fallait bien agir envers son cheval

  • I have been riding under the Spanish style of Dressage for a few years now. I have the great pleasure of riding with a man who was born in Guatemala and a true follower of the Spanish Classical Dressage style. He has inspired me and brought a sense of true joy and connection to riding that I was not successful at attaining through other instructors. He is a gift from God. Nuno is one of his personal favourites. Watching Nuno it is almost like seeing my own instructor on that beautiful horse.

  • Anky needs to watch this again and again and again.

  • well said!!!!

  • My instrucorr is a studentt of Nunos and i love the way he teaches us to work with the horse and help it understand what were asking, some poeple ssay dressage is cruel and in the modern form it can be if thehorse is trained incorrectly; but TRUE dressage, the spanish way is toatlly horse friendly I woudl totally recomend trying it to ANYONE! every horse desreves to be ridden this way. thankyouu nuno =]

  • It's a pity more dressage judges didn't view this video to see a horse moving freely, softly and forward without spurs and whips.....this is a true master at work

We so need to get back to classical principles in dressage...........!

  • there is whip and there are spurs... used with delicacy of course. watch again

  • I see two whips & spurs actually -just used kindly & appropriately.

  • im very sorry to tell that master Nuno did use spurs, im portuguese i was 1 of his stutends

  • @VHZMH I don't think that's a fair statement. Compitition riders are trying to get the largest movements possible while keeping the horse relaxed. This ride has it's problems too. The reinback shuffels, the piaffe has little lift in back. The walk is often tight. The trot lacks the suspension of todays horses. Having said that yes the horse is supple both in the neck and laterally.

I don't think it's fair to compare a ride for the joy of it to one where you need to get the highest score.

  • @wejump2 I don't think it's fair to point out the shortcomings in this ride. Mister Oliveira is riding a student's horse to improve the horse, so off course it's not perfect, that is what horse riding is about , getting improvement by working the horse in a well thought out way. Nobody can get on a poorly trained horse and do fantastic movements, it's takes years off commitment. So to judge the work of Mister Oliveira based on the performance of the horse in this video would be incorrect.

  • @Igorfun I agree with you (mostly). I was responding to a comment about how dressage judges shold see this video and that compitition horses didn't measure up to this type of riding and I felt that wasn't fair, Compititon unlike classical needs to get the largest movements possible while remaining withing the training scale. then I simply pointed out that this ride had it's problems too. Believe me when I say I know well about the years of commitment for moments of perfection (if you are lucky)

  • lol. I think it is brigadoon in perth

  • Please I would like to buy HIS OWN WORDS too! I cannot find it through the internet, only here. Please help!!

  • Fabulous!

  • well, this illustrates his books to perfection! the horse is with the utmost attention to him and the exercice at all times! mahn! i this guy! such a shame i only heard of him after he passed!

  • Was this the 'brigadoon' in Perth WAust???

I love the quality of the walk. keeping HP for that long in walk is NO easy feat!

    Thanks for posting the vid.

  • Yes this was Rrigadoon in Perth. The stallion is Dulcero, owned by Marj Armstrong

  • @Thepoocat...I used to get lessons with marj years ago and she always quoted Nuno...She also said many times that she wanted to take my mare to put dulcero over...LOL

  • When can I buy a copy of this great tape?

  • thank you for this vidéo!!!
