This thing was awesomely powerful. Far more flexible and safer than the American shuttle. The rocket that it rode to orbit was also capable of being used without the shuttle and if it had been flown in its most powerful version it would have far exceeded even the Saturn V in raw lifting power. Such a shame the cold war ended. :P

In the German museum is the "Buran" BTS-002, which were held on 24 flight with the purpose of completing an automatic landing. By the way, the museum is not the layout, and the real BTS-002. After repair and technical inspection, he can fly again.
"Buran" was an expensive project. One run of "Buran" was worth more than the American space shuttle. So, still in development it was clear that the "Buran" is doomed.

The Russians were quicker to realize how wasteful shuttles are and benched theirs before wasting billions unlike NASA. You don't need to throw up a DC9 sized airplane EVERY time you need to put people in space. 200 million per launch? Seriously? I wish scientists had money to blow like that! Russia has some pretty cool tech and I think the Buran looked pretty solid. The International space station is a great example of what can be done if we all get along and work together! 4. russian version used different type of fuel compared to the us version
