Fargo was said to a true story. The Coen Brothers later admited that their movie was fiction accept ironically the most gruesome crime in the movie. The wood chipper scene is based on a crime in Connecticut in 1986 where a Richard Craft killed his wife Helle Craft and disposed of the body through a wood chipper!
Brilliant scene but why does everybody talk about the wood chipper? Because it's graphic? Pathetic. Because there's SO much more to Fargo than blood and gore. It has so many excellent funny & even profound scenes in it 1 of the funniest being this. The movie Stormare is watching is hilarious "well it's something kinda small but if might b a big problem" LOL ! The way he pokes the money with his fork & the way Buscemi just glances at Jean and says what the fuck happened to her is all hilarious.
That scene is not as bad as people say though. I don't know. It didn't really gross me out for some reason and you would think it would. Some people go "it's one of the most disturbing scenes ever". I've seen much worse. lol.
I agree with, ReneeK1980. I never seen this movie but keep hearing about this wood chipper scene. I finally check it out and wow that was lame and not shocking/scary/gross at all. The wood chipper scene from "Rumble in the Bronx" is much more horrifying then this.
It's about the time that this came out in. It was a bit more graphic than most movies of 1996, things have changed of course, but really, this was bold in its time.
I have never watched Fargo, and to tell you the truth, I was expecting this scene to be much more graphic. In my head I'd always pictured seeing Steve's entire body slowly going through the machine, while he screamed in terror. Seeing just his socked foot poking out the top was tame in comparison.
That must be the worst way to dispose of a body. Did you see all the blood all over the snow? How the hell is someone supposed to clean that up? Nonetheless, It's a good movie.
it happens in many movies. persons to scared and they dont think straight. in death proof, they shoulda stopped the car but sped up, in nearly every slasher movie they should run out the door but instead go upstairs, same thing here.
I thought he died in Reservoir Dogs. But I watched it a few weeks ago, and after his shootout with the cops, you can vaguely hear him surrendering. So he was the only survivor in that carnage! A bit like in Con Air, when he's the only convict who gets away. Funny looking guy..!
Also, the Coens deliberately made his remains smaller and smaller in each film. I think it was the Charlie Rose interview that they said that in, but I'm not sure.
I had one of those "Weekend Woodsman", chippers. The POS would'nt even take an inch and a half diameter branch without stalling. I got rid of it after less than an hours use. there is no way you could run a body through it.
First, you have to cut the body up into 6 equally divided pieces. Then you have to remove the hair and teeth. Then freeze the remaining pieces. After that, the body should go through the chipper pretty quickly after that.
I admit, I laughed at 4:39. While the scene is gruesome, it's kind of funny that Grimsrud is trying to hide the body while leaving a huge blood stain on the snow.
@ignoranceandwant He might have planned to shovel clean snow over the bloody snow after disposing of the bodies. but still, he must have shit his pants when he saw the chief.

the only problem with dumping a body in a wood chipper is that its fucking messy
like the blood aint going to clean itself up
now dumping a body in acid now that a winner ; )

And anyway, when Gaear was running after him with the axe, he had five seconds to shoot his gun! Why didn't he?
