@IamLinksys I had the same experience when I got my first mount in WoW at level 40 back in Burning Crusade, but now the reduced price and level required to get a mount just removes something that players strived to achieve. Back in the day when blizzard wasn't worried by any other MMO's they thought that restricting things to higher lvl chars would make people keep playing but now they think that people will leave unless they are given instant access to all parts of the game.
Most of those after the STAP are not mounts, but travel vehicles.
if you played WoW, they are your flight point mounts.
at lvl 15 (or 16 i forget ) you get a ability that is basically called sprint ( trooper ) it boosts your speed while out of combat by activation by +25%. mounts are going to be about up to +50% movement speed bonus.
this game will feel more like a Asian grindfest-MMO at first. if it wasn't for the cinematic and plot/story, you would prolly quit after you hit your sides HUB.
i think they should/will withhold ships or impose travel restrictions until max lvl but as far as speeders go i want one when it becomes nessacery to have one, meaning as long as it doesn't take me 5 minuets to walk somewhere (that is saying you go that far without any combat that is helpful to the quest you are on) then im okay to not have one but if they start giving me quests that are on the other side of the planet i better damn-well have a speeder

With BioWares history in masterful RPG's due to their ability to tell a moving, compelling story, I don't see any reason that this should fail. Mounts are not a reason that MMO's would fail, all the most popular MMO's feature mounts.
@Anthrawn All the 'popular mmo's' yeah from 2004. Take WoW for example yeah it was successful, the most successful one for now. Mounts did work in WoW but you know what that was because? It had no scale in enviroment what so ever, so it didn't even matter. People don't want the same things from 7 years ago now. They want a scale in enviroment and nothing that allows you to by pass danger. TOR will be successful I take my word back on bound to failure however it won't become the future.
@mcandymadman What is wrong with having large environments? Yeah other MMO's that do not have mounts have flight points that you can go to or some sort of teleportation to go from one point to another but what if you like to explore the world? Mounts are just to get you from one point to another faster than walking but still get the exploration feel for it, and there are lots and lots of ppl that like that.
@Anthrawn I will aggre with you on one thing, parts of SWTOR will not be the future, much of SWTOR comes from what has made WoW and Rift popular, its older yes but it still works great so they aren't going to fix it, yes it will eventually get phased out but for now it works great and they don't see any reason to reinvent the wheel, however I do believe that if SWTOR really hits it off that fully voiced over MMO's will become a norm, and that more and more MMOS will become more story driven.
Hopefully as the game goes on they'll add a lot more mounts, and I hope they only allow you to have a mount once you reach a fairly high level, thats would drive people to keep playing.

@Fordiexr As a beta tester then I can say that you get servel lvls of riding skill, first at 25, then 40something and last 50 ;) kinda like in vanilia WoW just with the one in between. Nothing better than cruising around on your much faster mount chasing lowlvls on their mount ;)
@Jack11017 It's arguable but the fact that people can just fly around means they don't have to walk from place to place so it limits confrontations and limits chances of world pvp to occur.
all these mounts are very common, the shark one is just a transport speeder, nothing u can actually use.
