@rhcppetar95 i don't think so.. non-battery use the 127 AC volts in your house.. these use x DC volts, idk what voltage the batteries it used...... the voltage from your lap is neither AC nor 127..... thats why.... the lap doesn't have enough juice to power non-battery lights
This would work only for 6V (4 cells) light sets. The 5V might light them slightly dimmer than normal. If any short is made, you could make the computer unhappy. Installing a fuse would be a very good idea. This guy is an example of a little knowledge being dangerous.
heya , nice video, sending you a friend request, please accept if you want to.... , wanted some regarding led project of mine.. please help, any help will be greatly appreciated.....
i have a great idea for this!! get a usb extension and cut the female end off by about 2 inches. strip both of the ends and connect all of the wires back together, but attach two leads for the power to the lights. then plug a flash drive into the female end and conceal it in the battery box. you now have a working, hidden falsh drive. just make sure the lights are off if you want to use it or it may not work properly!!
Are you not worried that since some battery powered christmas lights only use 3 volts from 2 batteries that running 5 volts from usb power thru the the lights might fry them?
@JRBeaman A lot of people say it like that, I use both ways, to make sure everybody can understand me, but does it make anybody sound like a dweeb? The answer is no, because people can understand it, and it makes sense. If the creators of solder didn't want people to use the L, they should have gone without using the letter in the first place.
like jameswoods claims. the L in solder is indeed not silent. You saying it soder is incorrect. Really though it can be said either way and i say soder but if you are going to criticize him about it then I will point out (as James Woods pointed out before me) your stupidity. @bobsaget384158 My computer provides power to the USB ports when it's off, so you're wrong; it depends on the motherboard (mine is Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H).
Hey!! tks for the reply!!! But It wont work :( The USB generates 500mA... and the battery generates 2300 - 2450mA. So I`m kinda 1800mA short :/ but thanks anyway :)
@Ericsimagination Well... the Voltage is OK. On the other hand, the 500mAh offered by the USB port, seems not to be sufficient to fire the speakers... god damn it... I`ll see if there is some kind of resistor or something like that (FYI I don`t really know much of electricity jargon)
I've been looking for a good usb keyboard light for my notebook, but I can't find any I like. I may just have to make one. Anyone have any ideas to make it dimmable? Maybe Radio Shack has a small rheostat or potentiometer?
yeah thats so cool you could go one step further and get some flashing lights with variouse patterns and you could use usb micro or a differend usb controller so you could controll the lights with the pc or make them flash i time with you music etc...
Neat! What about making a little desk lamp that I can connect to my computer via usb? That would be another good DIY project!
How is it detected by the PC in device manager? Or does Windows detect it at all when it's connected? And don't the lights need to be rated at ~5V, as that's what USB is (using 3 or 4 batteries).
I highly recommend this video for anyone looking for a useful DIY project!
@Shadowmaster939 usb power is effectively free and goes on and off with the computer. Batteries cost money and would have to be manually turned on and off. And we all know how many times we forget to turn stuff off...
whats the point? i'll rather have it powered by the 4pin connector on he power supply so it wont fuck up my USB controller + all computer power supplies comes with a safety feature that if the load is too big it will automatically shut down.
if you plug it into the computer with lights on it could burn ur power supply out if its low so that means the motherboard would essentially die but not fry just shut down
this would only work if you hooked the wires up paralell. how u do that... put the +on the + and the negativ on the negativ and get your device. solder all three wires together and there you have it
zaqmlpxswnko12345, you mean in series so that the positive of one cable goes to the negative of the other cable then you get ten volts of the remaining positive and negative cable. In parallel you double the amount of current that can be drawn. But with both you risk the possibility of burning out your usb ports. Thats why you should only use usb devices that are made to be used on usb. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
could you do that to power other things too? by hooking up the red and black wires to the + and - things to the things you want to power by a usb cable?
wtf is this? who cares how he pronounced a word...he just made awesome usb lights!!! if i like how you kept the battery case intact...if i would have done it, it would have been just wires pigtailed together with about 3 pounds of electrical tape to hold it together haha...no seriously
that is the point of using battery operated ones. there aren't any retail ones that exceed 4 volts (usb ports output 5). i don't do stuff based on usefulness. i do it based on creative content. mixing technology and creativity is what i'm good at. if u want useful, i recommend purchasing professional tutorials as opposed to watching the free ones on youtube then complaining about them. it's like being given a free meal and then complaining that it's too cold. that's just my opinion.
@adicontakt That would happen only with 15 LEDs or more.

that was really cool, but unconventional.
Why not just plug it in the wall, then decorate your computer area? easier and safer.

i noticed that when i end process svchost.exe i end the process, i just did one and it said i closed one that said SYSTEM And it said shutting down in 1:00 and started counting down so i hit run then shutdown -a and it worked! still want to restart it soon though its just good for finishing and saving a document or whatever

Um Svhost is for Sound, Windows, And other things. So just leave them alone.
