you should play the other three first because the storyline is complex and difficult to pick up on in the middle, but it is also a fantastic storyline. if u cant get ur hands on mgs1 which u probably wont be able to you can watch alexfung23's full story version

Because the environment is so sophisticated, it gives you (as the user) the impression that there's a war going on, and that stealth isn't the only option you have when it comes to completing your mission.

This is far better than MGS 1, 2 and 3. No doubt.
