  • The first and best festival day of my life!!

  • Also, 6:34...perfection.

  • @wildebest the entire ending was perfect. ahah

  • Anyone know what effects, specifically what delay, Grant is using? Sounds so sexy...

  • This performance is amazing, and 6.34 never gets old.

  • P.S. After The Wildhearts, Therapy? etc retire we're fucked.

  • Ah those were the days, back when rock bands wrote actual songs with actual melodies you could tell apart from all the other tunes on their albums and songs that would make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Unlike the wealth of utter shite that's been on offer for seemingly the last 10 years now. It's almost as if nature decided that after a certain point no human was to be born in the UK with the ability to write a decent fucking rock song.

  • damn.. takas kicking ass

  • Hey dude, this is awesome! do you have anymore from this night???

  • Thanks so much for uploading this. Any videos of the early Feeder era are always great to watch. Bring back so many memories of the music and when they really were at their peak...Echo Park days.

Dig the hairstyles. Atleast they didn't play in the orange boiler suits at Reading!

Any drummers out there, I got this up on my channel!

    Thanks EliteGi!

  • best song ever

  • Grant suffered a torn vocal chord a few years back, so singing these old songs just isn't possible anymore :(

  • fuckin tremendous video

  • Taka's hair looks so cool in this video. He's well and truly Superman. :D

  • mes chanded mind dis is better

  • glostonbery was better in my opinion

  • phenomonal performance. no matter how many times i watch this,

  • looks like and sounds like Kurt Cobain (in his style of play)

  • i thought he looked more like Gavin Rossdale

  • a fucking fantastic song from a fucking fantasic band FEEDER forever outstanding they always have been an always will love you guys

    good luck with 2009 boys

    R.I.P Jon Henry Lee x

  • This is amazing, Since grant had that vocal chord bleed a few years ago ( i think it was PTS tour) everytime ive saw them live since hes dropped the "im not insane there is no pain" and "lied, you lied" bits, I so wish he'd start doing them again! I meant to ask him when i met him if he would ever but i didnt know what to say to him when the time came!

  • Now that skunk anansie have reformed and mark has left the band does anyone know who the new drummer will be yet, He's gonna have a huge back catalogue to learn!

  • I think Silent Cry is the only one of their album's which is perfect all the way through. In my opinion.

  • I wouldn't say silent cry is a fantastic piece of work from feeder, however there are some brilleant songs on that album ( sonorous, yeah yeah) and grant put a lot of effort into that album. I just got the feeling they tried to hard with silent cry and its by no means their second best, it has to be ywts. It will be interesting to see what their next album will sound like, they should create that sound seen in b sides such as bruised, a mixture of comfort in sound with yesterday went to soon

  • Incorrect.... ALL FEEDERS ALBUMS ROCK! i wudent compare any of them, coz each album has different sounds, Silent cry n polythene have the best sound in mu opinion, but sumtimes i prefer Rock like echo park, or the sad(ish) YWTS, depends on the mood

    FEEDER 09 NEW ALBUM YEEEE!

  • Miss the grunge days with distortion experiments and Grant's harsh vocals.

  • "Descend" was on the setlist for Pompey Pyramids. It was on there alongside "Shade" but time constraints held them back from playing them :(.

  • grant nicholas signiture jazzmaster anyone? id so buy one

and i wish he could still sing like this

and i wish feeder still played desend live

and i wish feeder were still this good

  • Hmm, I think Feeder still have it in them to crack out some very good songs and perform them live. OK yes - they have lost some of the raw power (especially grant's voice) they used to have in the 90's when performing live but that's age as much as anything else.

  • yea i agree with you, im just miserable at how crap silent cry was, and how boring there recent tour was

feeder peaked around 2006, there warchild gig at the coroned was amazing, and ive seen feeder relentlessly for years

they will always have a special place with me, just for being so great

  • Well at least the Silent Cry album was a big improvement on the PTS album. It just lacked any strong single songs and of course airplay IMHO. I'm sure they'll put Descend back into the lineup soon, it's their best live song possibly only beaten by JAD (but that's only because everyone knows JAD).

  • @EliteGi wwhats imho? :O lol

  • Yeah you're right. Silent cry is an amazing album, and it is also my favourite (depending on mood) but it's much more commercial and much softer than their older stuff. After a couple of listens it bores me to death, and the only solution to it is to put up Polythene or Swim. They've gone downwards since YWTS, no way. I agree that 2006 was their best year, the new songs were just amazing. Luckily the songs on the Seven sleepers EP are much heavier and their b-sides are still great and less poppy

  • WTF!!!!!??, "Silent Cry" is a very good album probably their 2nd best one being "Polythene".

-Grant had bleeding vocal cords in 2005, so has to take it easier, he's still just as amazing as he always has been.

-Feeder have always been this good, bands need to evolve and change their styles from each album, if they sounded the same on every album, I doubt people will still be seeing them live today.

-Feeder still have yet to peak, I think this next album will be their greatest sales moment.

  • - Their recent tour was brilliant, never before have I got so sweaty at at a gig or got near to losing my voice from all the signing along.

    - Back on my previous point, look at Embrace- their 2001 album failed to sell like "Silent Cry", but the follow up was a massive seller, this will happen to Feeder's 7th album.

At least the band still have a place in your heart, and you're still buying their records.

  • They have never peaked, their best days are still yet to come.

SC was an amazing album, you're an example of someone who is never happy and won't let Feeder win no matter how hard they try to make their critics happy.

  • I totally agree. When I first heard this song in '97 I bought Polythene and could not stop playing it. Swim, YWTS, Echo Park and many of the B-sides in the late 90's are great. After Jon died this band just lost it. They really sound more like Goo Goo Dolls and way too popular/mainstream on the last 3 albums. No one can compare a performance of this magnitude to any of the new stuff. As for the singing, it was 13 years ago not many singers can hit notes they do an earlier albums today.

  • @indierickenbacker They do still play this live. Monto water rats.... 2010

I travelled 300 miles to hear it.

  • this was on the single of suffocate disc 2. i have the single but i cant get the video to work!

  • This is a great song, i always thought it was about self belief and redemption, even better live!

  • I've never seen them play this live in person, going next month again but I'm starting to give up hope...maybe I should just pelt Grant with tennis balls with 'DESCEND!!!!' written on them

  • Wow, were they the main act when you saw them? They usually play descend, and it's got to be the best live song musically they play!

  • Saw them at Reading a few years ago but I missed half of it so I'm not sure if it was in the setlist and the other time I saw them was during the CIS tour and I know they didn't play it then :(

  • To update: Saw them last night again and they didn't play it...arrrrgh. They did play the Breed cover though so it sorta makes up for it

  • They haven't been playing it this tour - it was a fixture on the PtS tour.

  • stupendo

  • BEST LIVE EVER

  • did the leed singer cimit suicide

  • Jon Lee, the drummer did.

  • this is by far one of my fave ever live vids of old skool feeder - such a great song live.

  • I love this video, That guitar has seen some action since, hasn't it. I think Grant still loves playing this live.

    Excellent song

  • Descend is such an amazing song live, grant is a god

  • fucking hell...

    nirvana influenced much?

  • Erm... not really. If there was a song of theirs that sounds the most nirvana(ish) it'd be this but if you listened to their other stuff you'd realise they weren't.

  • acctually i have an interview where the frontman said his favourite song is milk it by nirvana, so i know they are to an extent. especially with the use of loud, quiet, loud technique which was stolen from the pixies preliminary. and yes i have listened to their other stuff and i would agree that doesn't sound particuarly nirvana influenced but i think their old stuff does.

  • not really its more of smashing pumpkins influence

  • this is the greatest live performance i have ever seen he is a truely gifted singer

  • Une des meilleurs chansons en live!

Dommage que le groupe ne soit pas connu en France car c'est le meilleur groupe de tous les temps!

  • these guys are my gods!! i love everything theyve ever done!!

but they did have dodgy hair cuts back then...

  • I was there! have seen them tons more since then and have tickets to see them in a tiny tiny venue in bristol at the end of may!

    Result.

  • Best band never to headline.

  • They're always 4th on the bill, it;s pathetic and they should headline. They were only 3rd last year cos Slipknot's drummer broke his ankle. It's just not right that despite their HUGE catalouge they have never headlined.

  • no feeder havent peaked, your thinkin about the day when feeder will deide to call it day and everyone will appreciate what they have done. Im not lettin feeder win as you put it, thats exactly what im not doin. As a fan who has listened to every song and likes every song im not bothered what the music world thinks of feeder. SC was decent and was pure feeder, but there has been better

  • true

  • they headlined download 2005 i think

  • They sure did, I was there :D.

  • I was talking about Reading tho :).

  • @MarcusBowen they headlined download in 2004

  • Awesome band.Awesome track. I would travel the globe just to see them.

  • Gotta be one of the best feeder videos i've even seen

  • That was a bloody awesome performance! I miss this Feeder, I miss those awesome little solos he used to do in between...

  • I love how Taka's hair hasn't changed at all in 10 years :)

  • wow! not even one of my fave feeder's but this gave me goosebumps

  • THey do still play it.

  • why dont they play this anymore, this is the best ive performance ive seen by them. theyre mainstream hits may be more catchy but this is unmatched by their shows today. i suppose grants voice has changed and their vibe has mellowed considerably since their original drummer's suicide

  • It still gets played, they did an 11 minute version in November for all three Warchild shows, and features this brilliant middle part whrre Mark's drum speeds up.

It's so hard to pick a face out of all the live versions there have been tho, and this one is an absolute gem. I'd do anything to go back in time and be there at Reading :D.

  • BRILLIANT! I can't get enough of this video! Just shows how amazing Feeder are!! Can't wait to hear their new stuff :D Cheers EliteGi for posting this!

  • Feeder just pwn :P

  • los mejores diosssssssss ^^

  • jajaja ai ai !!!! un español con 2 cojones

  • I can't believe he took his Vox AC30 onstage, those things are worth a fortune

  • good news about the new album

and i thought that he used a firebird on stage?

    but vox...is he crazy?

  • He had a custom "Jazzbird" made up a few years ago, part Firebird, part Jazzmaster. But he smashed it last year at Reading I think.

  • Twas Download 05

  • i'm not sure if he even had one then. he always uses that brown fender-type guitar for this song.

  • its a '67 fender jazzmaster, lol, he also has a silver one, he also sometimes used to use a gibson SG

  • yeah i know he had a silver with more pickups on em. he used it to play insomnia, waiting for changes, we can't rewind, descend sometimes etc. he doesn't seem to use that one anymore tho.

  • mmm, he doesn't have "more pickups" just different ones, the jazzmaster comes with 2 "soap bar" pickups, grant kept the neck one but changes the bridge pickup, i've seen it with 2 different kinds of humbuckers (probably gibson) at the bridge. He's changed both on his silver one to humbuckers though.

  • whats the big deal, they're not worth that much, plus they're a top amp so why wouldn't he want the best sound for live lol

  • I agree about the sound, but that's a vintage! They cost about £3,000 in some places

  • Nice comment from MarechalPinot - They really are the best band EVER!!!!!!!!!!! Awesoome.

  • fuck everyone who hates feeder, fuck them all,

every single one of them. These guys are one of the most innovative and just downright awesome bands ive ever heard, an i listen to a lot of music. RIP JON

  • DAMN RIGHT!!!, I've got an uncle who gives me grief becaue I'm a fan of them, and is really nasty about it, even on Christmas day of all days last year at the dinner table!!!!.

And you're totally right, f**k everyone who hates Feeder including him.

Jon Lee is a legend, like the rest of the guys!!!. I'm so proud of their achievements, and draw in massive crowds at Reading, and that is an astonishing achievement, even at one of the biggest music events in the UK!!.

  • why does your uncle hate feeder?

  • I really don't get it, in a way it's because he don't think their songs have enough loud guitars.

    Pathetic if that's the case.

  • Are are fucking brilliant live and have great fans too so I'm proud to be one of them. I've seen them three times, one of which was at Reading Festival (2006).

  • this song live is just amazing. the extended middle bit just blew me away. newer versions of this song live arent as good as this one, because dean plays the pretty middle bit... not grant

  • Have you seen the Leeds Cockpit version (also on this site)? If this version blew your mind, then the Leeds Cockpit version will be one hell of a treat for you.

  • Deano is a just as amazing guitarist as Grant :).

  • grants vocals here are amazing, bet i've seen live in ages lol, insanely good, too bad he can't still do that for feeling a moment live

  • Feeder est le meilleur groupe de rock au monde. Sa dechire tout simplement!!!!!!!

  • The best Feeder song imo, I cannot see how anyone could not appreciate a live version of Descend - great performance on this video too.

  • powerful voice then?

he still dos. and jesus they hav changed

  • i wonder what the venue was

  • thing is the crowd love it and when you look at the new live performence recording noone is loving it

  • Apparently the newest version of Descend live (past few months)is the best. I haven't heard it for myself but apparently it has Mark and Grant jamming through the middle. I would love to hear it though, this song is simply sensational live.

  • but today the voice of grant....is very spoilt. why??? the change from 2001 to 2006 are huge...but i love grant !!!

  • Outstanding! Been a Feeder fan for nearly ten years now. I'm in my fifties and have heard some great stuff in my time, but this... Descend still gives me goosebumps.

  • he had such a powerful voice back then..

  • Yea i wanna hear him sing more songs like this, a lot of his newer songs are deppressing.

  • but can you really blame him?

  • I agree with bert872, he and Feeder's songs need to cheer up. Jon Lee's suicide was a sad loss cos he was a great drummer but Grant should move on (I don't know the least harsh to say cos I don't mean it in an offensive way); Feeder have still done well since despite the handful of negative songs. They should do more uplifting songs like Buck Rogers and 7 Days In The Sun.

  • although more rocky upbeat songs would be cool, the sad songs are still fucking great, feeling a moment = fucking awesome song, comfourt in sound, another great song, anyway what are you talk'n bout, lost and found was upbeat rocky, and save us kinda was lol, they have a new album coming too so, yayayayayayay lol

  • I'm not saying their sad songs are crap. In fact their sad songs sound great live. I've seen them three times. Feeder are a bit underrated, but I think they'd get more credit if they did more uplifting songs. That's all I'm saying.

  • in all fairness, they do seem to be getting more up tempo.

take lost and found for example, shatter and burn the bridges, and save us

  • Grant has said that the new album will be more upbeat like before Jon died RIP

  • yeah, the problem is the voice of grant in this days, are very spoilt, without power.... why ??someone know?

  • R.I.P Jon Lee.

  • Grant seems a lot happier here and Jon's drumming is sooooo good, i wish i had that talent.

  • Wow - this is like gold dust to feederfans - thanks for sharing! LOVE. x

  • i've never heard that song untill now, in which cd is it?

  • it's on their first full-length album: Polythene

  • the best one!

  • They always have rocked and still do now. They're just evolving and changing their sound, something The Darkness were unable to do and their fans got bored by album No2 was already released.

Brilliant video!!!, remember it really well when I first played it from the "Suffocate" CD2 single!.

  • that dude definatly looks better with short hair

  • disagreed!

  • awesome

  • I like the emotion he puts into his singing on this song

  • fuckin mint feeder rockin out in there younger days

  • Fanbloodytastic! :)

  • great song

    love this track

  • amazing tune... amazing video... one of the best - if not the best - feeder song out there

  • this is such an amzig song. its so gr8, it literally blew me away wen i saw them live in hammersmith
