I remember the first time I got this ending with my cousin on the NES, many years ago, altough in the amercan version. We hugged and celebrated a lot, the journey was difficult but we succeeded.
Japanese ROM (cartridge) of Contra (called Gryzor) contained external mapper VRC2B, expanding abilities in Famicon processor. Outside Japan it was somewhy forbidden, so when the game was ported for USA it was thrown out & no mapper was left at all! The same thing happened to Castlevania 3, which had an external sound chip in Japanese version.
Great speed run. Why does the Japanese version of contra have the cooler ending with them getting on the helicopter, and some of the animated backgrounds are not animated in the US version. Did the Japanese version come out after the US one?
@dobrenarcisflorin91 Then the question is, why did they make changes to remove animated backgrounds, and remove a kewl scene from the ending for the US version?
what's that 2 player death glitch btw?
didn't look like a whole lot happened on stage 3...

@snesmaster2 See my post above.
Addons from other developers were not allowed by Nintendo outside Japan. KONAMI used such addon for some games only in Japan.
