@Thrombozytenaggregat I don't find it so - and it does give an audience another 'view' of the playing.... interesting question though - thanks. Jon E.
@partha9797 Hi there, and thanks for your your appreciation - however, as far as the sheet music goes - I'm afraid I can't help as I neither read, nor write music. I have no 'score' for what I'm playing as I'm making it up as I go along. Try to google sheet music for the song and see what you find. The composers are Kander/Ebb. Good luck and thanks for watching! Jon E.
The first time I watched it my eyes were stuck on the turning candlesticks and to your "salesman smile"... You're awesome! There's something more than just a brilliant performance here.
@Maxicore951 Ha ha! the candelabra were meant to catch your eye - and keep you interested - 'seems like they did the trick! Thanks for your appreciative critique...! Jon E
Hello my name is John Philip'm impressed with the lightness that you play piano. I study the keyboard two years already but I think I played piano keys too heavy for me. I am 10 years old. But have any tips for me?
@felipelovekid You are very young to be so critical of yourself - just 'lighten up' and enjoy music for the fun it can be. You can always adapt your technique as you grow older and more mature in your tastes. Play anything and everything that pleases you. Best wishes! Jon E.
Man! I was playing this song today and i thought: " I wanna hear another piano version of this. What's the best version i know? Off course, Jone England Version!" This is awesome! I smile while listening to it, that's what music must do to you, make you smile for no reason!
This is awesome i was planning to do this song for a performance evening but now when i watched this. This song belongs to you on the piano. Ka pai eho
@Woodman323 I sell sheet music of my OWN compositions Brady, but not this one I'm afraid. Someone else wrote it, so it's their copyright! Just watch it again and again and you'll get it though. best wishes - Jon.
@TheBiesterveld - thank you for your observations. I've never 'tried' to be like Liberace, 'though I think his playing and performing style are fine indeed. I feel I'm adding more than a little touch of my 'own' in every note I play. Everyone learns something from everyone they hear/see.
Originally, I found this video by accident. (I was actually searching for a tutorial on how to play Alicia Keys' song "Streets of New York".) When I realized that I watching something different, I almost hit the back button until you started playing and my mind was blown.
I'm only a beginner piano player and I can only hope to someday get to your level. Then I'll move up from Alicia Key's New York and give yours a try. :)
Mr. England, they would kindly give an address where I can order a cd of them? Magnificent music, I would like to take ". I am so very excited about their music ......
Well, BIG thank you for your endorsement and enjoyment. I DO have a sheet for my version of "Love Story" but perhaps I ought to have this one scored too. You see, I can't/don't read any music so it's difficult to explain the arrangement to anyone who does. I'll see what I can do! Thanks again and best wishes - Jon E.
You can play by ear and you are considered to be England's greatest pianist? HOW can I get to at least a FRACTION of your skill? I play by ear as well, I can play anything I hear at a BASIC level, just chord plucking, etc. But this ragtime is amazing! How did you do it, and do you have any advice for me?
When I first started, I could play at a basic level too - it's been 25+ years since then so, perhaps that's the answer?! The only adivce I'd feel qualified to give is "never give up" - hope that helps - best wishes, Jon
Thank you! I started at about 16 years old so, a while now! Be sure and subscribe now, to get my Web-TV show launching soon. You can request your favorites and have them played on the show.
I'm sure there IS sheet music for the basic version of the tune but, as I don't/can't read music, I made this arrangement up myself. Thanks for your positive review!
Well - I think that's the most geographically satisfying compliment I've received - I'm English, but this performance is dedicated to the bouyant spirit of America!! The coat helps too, doesn't it?!

I think the magic you've been able to harness is your ability to separate chords in a piece into individual notes, but make them into a consistently speedy and smooth lick which is extremely appealing (and i imagine the editing software helps a bit too). Awesome work! Keep it up!
You're a very perceptive listener - and a player, I suspect? - however, all the music is played and recorded straight, without any editing magic or quantization or modification. The video software enables the multiple camera angles - perhaps that's what you meant. Thanks for the compliments!
no I don't. I'm only just beginning to understand 'computer' recording a little - my first album was on vinyl in 1984 and I've always used reel-to-reel until fairly recently!
Well you should've played this one... except perhaps a shorter version. I am working on a version right now. Not near as fancy lol, my fingers would break if they did some of the stuff your's do. :)
I actually DID play this one - a shorter version ... as the program has progressed, the purpose of the show has been revealed to be human interest stories, penetrating voyeuerism, humiliation, ridicule and ratings.

I'm sorry for bothering you so much. So you don't know anything about 1,2,3, thumb under on your scales, and you've never had a lesson in your life? How many hours a day did you practice before you could do all the arpeggios, chromatic scales, and fancy stuff while keeping in time? Do you practice daily now for continous improvement of your technique? By the way, I bought "At Your Request" last Friday. Can't wait for it to arrive!
This isn't the first time I've been asked Victor - it's certainly an idea I should consider. Perhaps if you could play this clip in slow-motion it would be a start?
Really, really done in a fun fashion! And yet as complexly structured as ever! So, tell me about the tuning of that piano. You wouldn't play any old out of tune piano. It sounds like at least one string of many notes is deliberately not tuned to the other two, particularly noticeable first at :22 when you hit the B flat; the second one below the middle C, with your left thumb. Is there a defined method to tuning a piano that style?
VERY observant and analytical !! It's actually a custom-built piano just for that sound/style of music. There is a degree of de-tuning to obtain a very playable 'honky-tonk' sound which fits certain 'fun' pieces of music. I had a specialist work on it so I don't know the true technicality of it. Thanks for your observations, it was great fun to perform and record.

I think the magic you've been able to harness is your ability to separate chords in a piece into individual notes, but make them into a consistently speedy and smooth lick which is extremely appealing (and i imagine the editing software helps a bit too). Awesome work! Keep it up!
ged424 2 years ago
You're a very perceptive listener - and a player, I suspect? - however, all the music is played and recorded straight, without any editing magic or quantization or modification. I play ALL the instruments (including the orchestrations) myself on a multi-track recorder - mix them to stereo and perform the piano part complete, and live over the top. The video software enables the multiple camera angles - perhaps that's what you meant. Thanks for the compliments!
