I used to own a 1991 Mk2 VW Golf GTI 8 Valve Big bumper edition. Had it for 5 years and only one thing needed replacing which was a new clutch. Fantastic cars. I'll always buy VW. Simply the best.

as much as the mk5 has almost double the power of a mk1... we can be assured that the mk1 is the faster car in every day life. the roads dont permit 140mph+. the mk1 is special because it is a go kart. it handles better than its power, its an awesome thing if you can drive. mk5/6 has lost all that, good in a straight line, but it flunks the test elsewhere. i dont drive in straight lines, dont know about you. not to mention you can sort a mk1 for next to nothing with about 4 spanners!
