  • Any Cumberbitches in the house tonight?

  • Man I love this movie. William Wilberforce is an inspiration to us all!

  • William Wilberforce and this film are major inspirations for the End Poverty Campaign. Now it's your turn to help make history! Please see change.net

  • awesome story and movie! all Brits and Americans should know this story.

  • When the bagpipes started playing Amazing Grace, I got goosebumps.

  • @orbitgirl23 me too!!!!!

  • A beautiful film, with strong performances and direction all around.

  • "Remember,god made man equal!!"

  • LORD,i was blind,but now i see.

  • im wondering where all the good men are??leaders, like wilberforce the fuedal system is still in action. whether it be black africans, women, children, un=educated, they love keeping people dumb (our government used us to further there pocket book) look at all the men in congress and senate there pension plan, there fees for speaking , were still a slave to them.

  • Having maids is akin to modern day slavery

  • I love the bagpipes!

  • If slavery was still legal today, i would be very rich.

  • Chris Tomlin sang the song for the trailer

  • Comment removed

  • Is Michael Apteds the one who sung the song in the trailer???

  • England actually did have a good reason why not to get rid of the trade, it would damage the econemy seeing as they just had a war with the U.S, and it was getting them alot of money, France could have just taken over as soon as they stoped and got right back where England left off, not arguing for the act of slavery im just stating the reasons why no one wanted to abolish it, plus the Africans would sell the weaker African tribes to the English because slavery had been happening in Africa b4

  • This film is part of what has inspired me to become a modern-day abolitionist. Slavery still exists today, and there are more slaves now than ever.

  • Grace. the truest awakening one can embrace, is Loving to Love because of LOVE .. - Mihai Hum

  • did anyone else recognise benedict cumberbatch? (he plays sherlock holmes in 'sherlock')

  • @MsSteefXD oh yes- I love his acting He is brillant here and he is brilliant as Sherlock-.

  • @AlSidre I know right, =D I can't till season 2 comes out (it's said to be somewhere in early 2012) he's a brilliant actor and I hope we'll be seeing a lot more of him from now on, I'dd never even heard of him before sherlock. (mind you, I'm dutch, things take a while to get here)

  • One of the best historical movies that I have seen.

  • Ioan Gruffudd rocks

  • The just shall live by faith anf God did make all men equal by faith! In John 3:16 the word "Whosoever" and "Beleives".

    John 3:16

King James Version (KJV) 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

  • @danielwinyard77 God bless youuuuuuuu

  • @danielwinyard77 here is food for thought why would a god that loved people so much allow such a thing to happen to his children .....why?...............if a supreme being in control of this situation looked down on this and did nothing for hundreds of years .how am i supposed to believe that he loves us or loves us equally. if such a being did exist he shudnt be called a god but a dictator!

  • @robshockeycards Because god gave us free will.. that is what separated men from angels. we have free will to do what we want. it is up to us to make what we do in this life and god gave us this privilege. do not blame him for our mistakes

  • @robshockeycards So he is a dictator for letting us do what we want? Dictators make us do things, God uses democracy; that is he tries to reason with us. He asks other people, like the man in this movie who ended slavery in Britain, to do his work. That is not dictatorship. How do you know he did nothing? Perhaps everyone he asked before didn't do it. Remember, even when you or I sin we are still his children. In God's view it was child vs. child. He just asked his faithful children to stand up.

  • I hate Hollywood.

  • IMDB Rating for this movie is only 7,5? WTF?? This should have a 9,something, just like Braveheart.

I'm usually not into historical movies like this, but this movie is so powerful and beautifully, artistically made, everything is perfect. Perfect casting, the couldn't have chosen better people for Wilberforce, his wife, and his bestie.

Fell in love with Ioan and Benedict and Romola in this movie. Gawd they were amazing, especially Ioan.

(Sorry for rambling but watching it is time well spent)

  • Latin 'manus': hand. All those with HANDS were created equal. Equal, NOT the same.

  • Amazing film.

  • Men are not created equal. Men are equally created.

  • sssquueeee benedict cumberbatch :3 prettiest primeminster ever. Looks like an awesome story too :3

  • this is one of those movies, that because you know its a true story, makes it all the more sad!!

  • Amazing movie for an amazing man.. Wilberforce..

  • Remember... God made man EQUAL. Amen to that!!

  • Thumbs up if you came here to watch Jeff Buckley

  • i´m sorry but 0:35 it´s sherlock holmes!! xD ok. now focusing on the trailer again.

  • I watched this film a few days ago and I loved it so much! Amazing film!

  • No matter how much you dislike you will not drown out the voice of the people!

  • I just watched this movie again I love it so much incredible!

  • is this a christian movie???

  • @TransFormersDOTM11 It has strong Christian undertones, like the sanctity of life and so on. Faith is a driving force for William Wilberforce's actions. However this movie will appeal to people of any or no religion. It isn't one of those horribly made proselytizing films.

  • @TransFormersDOTM11 then main guy willian wilberforce is a chrisitan and is all about how faith can overcome evil. But it is not funded by the church or anything, it is a real film with really good actors (Gruff, Gambon, Chumberbcah, finney) it is a really good (historically accurate) film with a great message.

  • This is seriously a fantastic film whether you're interested in the religious aspects or not. I'm not particularly religious, but Wilberforce's story is fascinating and inspiring regardless of whether you share the faith that motivated him. I've seen it a few times and even the trailer still makes me tear up.

  • Even the trailer is making me cry..

  • @TheGoodNewsMessenger yeah me too... im crying just watching the trailer... makes me feel more compassion towards humanity... god bless...

  • Amazing great man John Newton.

  • Everywhere but not in Malaysia. How sad is that.

  • This movie does not get enough recognition. Its very well done. Great cast too. <3

  • Ah the same old argument "If we end the trade it will damage the economy." Yep they said it about slavery, now they say it about the arms trade, cigarette trade, nuclear arms and so on. Like King Solomon I must admit there is nothing new under the sun! This is an awesome film, long may the voices in the wilderness cry out until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a never failing stream!

  • @MrDavidHoldsworth You sum it up nicely my friend

  • we want buckley not this kind of crap

  • This Movie is Sooo good and I Love it, the people in this movie worked so hard at what they believed was needing to be changed! GOD IS GREAT, all of the time! :)

  • This was soooooooo good movie!! I watched it only because of Benedict Cumberbatch. I'm so happy that I watched this movie. British movies are best! :)

  • Watching this movie in class,I like it :)

  • this song was played at my uncles funeral it was amazing :)

  • @sirdoodlebug219 ????? being a servant is not the same as being a slave! Jesus, like his actual followers server others out of love and humility, which is sanctioned and praised by the bible. Slavery, which is forced servitude by those who consider themselves above you is not in any way praised in the bible. I know not one verse in the new or old testament that shows God is perfectly happy with the concept of slavery. Please visit your local biblical scholar to clarify more on what im saying.

  • @Camjordan13 Genesis 17, verse 12: This verse shows that god understands that people buy other people and is obviously OK with the concept. He wants slaves circumcised in the same way as non-slaves. Exodus Chapter 12 verse43: God again shows that he is comfortable with the concept of slavery and singles slaves out for special treatment.

  • @Camjordan13 Exodus Chapter 21 verse 20: God describes how to become a slave for life and shows that it is acceptable to separate slaves from their families. He also seems to endorse the branding of slaves through mutilation. Exodus Chapter 21 verse 32: Not only does god condone slavery but he is also completely comfortable with the concept of beating your slaves, so long as you don't kill them. Chapter 21 verse 32: God puts a value on slaves.

  • @Camjordan13 Leviticus chap 22 verse 10:God seems quite happy for children to be slaves too. Leviticus chapt 25 verse 44: God states where you can purchase your slaves and clearly specifies that slaves are property to be bought, sold and handed down. Luke chapt 7 verse 2: Here, jesus shows that he is completely comfortable with slavery. He heals the slave without any thought of freeing the slave or admonishing the slaves owner. Colossians chap 3 verse 22:God is in acceptance of a slaves position

  • @Camjordan13 Do you want me to go on? Because believe it or not, I have got better things to do than show a delusional christian the truths in a book they prize and believe...

  • @sirdoodlebug219

given by your comment record you apparently don't.

  • @sirdoodlebug219 Child, I can see that you are going through a lot, so much so that it has caused you to turn away from God and see him as a facade for the weak and the hopeless. But discussing you're belief's is not a waste of time unless you know in your heart that your ideal is wrong. That is why I am responding to your post, and urging you to visit a biblical scholar and ask him the questions about god that you have asked yourself and the internet. I was once in your shoes, trust me on this.

  • @Camjordan13 I appreciate your concern and mature attitude, which is more than can be said for mine. :) I don't doubt that you have a very strong belief and truly feel god's presence. But to me, the same can be applied to any other religious follower of the past or present. We all know this as we see the lengths they will go to for their religions. But again, thanks for your response.

  • @Camjordan13 It is my position that it is impossible to deny something that you do not understand. Not only have I consulted biblical scholars, I have studied the underlying concepts and philosophies that fuel chrisianity...not just christianity, but any metaphysical belief that asserts the existence of a "soul" or separate mind/body condition that would permit "life after death." Without evidence to support the hypothesis, it falls quite flat.

  • @freedomofthought By your own line of thought, if it is impossible to deny something that you do not understand, then you not understanding life after death or the concept of a soul means that you must believe in it and accept it. That is your own argument you made of course. You therefore deny what you do understand being atheism and fight yourself contradicting your own statements every time you talk.

  • @freedomofthought While the concept of a soul is unproven and completely hypothetical, stating that because of lack of proof shows that souls do not exist is not work because you fail to show how they can't exist. If anything in your studies you should have found that due to humans not being God, we have no instruments and no way of creating instruments that could detect souls like a Geiger counter detects radiation. This is the reason that religion is called a faith.

  • cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....................................

that's how i´d sumarize this trailer

  • people,

    just watch it.

  • That is the best when he traps all the rich people on the boat and makes them smell all the dead bodies of Africans. In the faaaaaaace

  • we're watchin this in history class. its so good.

  • One of the most moving movies in history!

  • Slavery exist since men wear arms. Way before the Romans, the Pesians, the Chinese etc empires slavery existed and still exist today, and will exist tomorrow. In modern countries we don't need slaves anymore because machines are cheaper, and work harder, faster.

"Remember god made man equal"-say that to 3 milliard people who leave from less than 2 dollar a day. Making movies like that won't change human nature.

  • @Attilahollo9 When you say that making movies like that won't change human nature are you saying that it is better not to make them? It's like saying that we shouldn't denounce any injustice just because there always be people that won't listen.

  • @Attilahollo9 When you say that making movies like that won't change human nature are you saying that it is better not to make them? It's like saying that we shouldn't denounce any injustice just because there always will be people that won't listen.

  • @Attilahollo9

These movies (or other means to direct our attention to such problems) may not change human nature - that is IMPOSSIBLE especially considering that not everyone in the world will watch this, and that not everyone in the world will be sensitive to these matters -, but at least it makes some of us ponder. And might make some of us want to change what is currently happening, even if by subconsciously teaching it to future generations. :)

  • who sings Amazing Grace at the beggining?

  • @ViralVersion Chris Tomlin.

  • @ViralVersion

    Chris Tomlin.

it is called "Amazing Grace ( My Chains Are Gone)"

  • "Remember god made man equal"

  • 2:01 Amazing Grace o_O

  • absolutely love this movie <3

  • So what if the Arabs did before the chattel slavery the Europeans practiced was far more barbaric. It doesn't excuse what was done period. Wilberforce was a great man but remember History = His-story

  • Why is the video screwed up on half the YouTube videos now? Seriously, am I the only one with this problem? Half of the videos I watch on YouTube are all green and distorted, like they've been corrupted or something. Someone tell me I'm not the only one experiencing this.

  • does anybody knows where can I get the movie or download it?Please, I need it for homework :S

  • who sings the song

  • @laxtheshit97 Chris Tomlin

  • No matter how loud you shout you will not drown out the voice of the people!!

    -one of my favorite quotes

  • @55Kealoha i like that too.powerful & moving..623

  • @55Kealoha "The people?" - makes me think of those who deny the humanity and "personhood" of certain human beings.

  • Slavery still exists today. It's the children in other countries that is being used. We need to open our eyes & see, protect all that our heaven Father, our God has given us. "Thru his mercy we receive His GRACE" and mercy is what we need to do to help each other. That is what the movie and the song is all about. "Love our fellow man as yourself"

  • Remember :

    GOD MADE MAN EQUAL ....

  • beatiful song ! amazing

  • what song is that form 1.56 sec ? pls

  • @blagageorge

the song is "Amazing Grace", just like the title :)

  • who sing it?

  • I know this tune of tt song

  • I'd wanted to see this for soo long, and I finally got to watch yesterday. William Wilberforce is now my hero! God I LOVE this movie! It is now my favorite thing to watch. It is truly one of the most inspirational stories EVER :)

  • I waited way to long to see this movie! This quickly got into my top 10 best movies of all time! GREAT MOVIE!

  • I became a Christian when i was 15 years old and barely old enough to say i had been through anything. but i must say even now at 22 everytime i hear that song, it brings tears to my eyes and an unfathomable joy. great movie.

  • Amazing that's what I call it!! I want to see this movie again soo bad!!!! <3

  • "DO IT! BLOW THEIR FILTHY DIRTY SHIPS OUT OF THE WATER!" Amen Father Newton!

  • Ioan Gruffudd is INCREDIBLE in this movie

  • @JeffandIoanFan Amen to that :)

  • This movie made me cry like nobody's business :)

  • download it .... steal it .... i dont care but everyone has to see this movie ....

  • Shit trailer for a good movie

  • I'm gonna watch this,seems great

  • I have read that he put his own words to a song the people that were taken as slaves sang, in his attempt to translate it. He was singing about himself, as a former slave ship captain who had changed his thinking.

  • John didn't write amazing grace he was full of hate and stole the song from one of the slaves.

  • @honeycone1 The words he wrote, the tune he didn't. Get real.

  • @PetraKenobi I think his brother wrote the melody. But he did write the lyrics.

  • @honeycone1

That's incredible! African slaves on a ship that had an excellent complex understanding of the English Language and were Christian, i wonder why they didn't compose any similar songs during this period, or do you think all the similar songs in England were composed by African slaves?

  • W-O-W-!

  • my God, you know what i am struggling while watching this video..

  • Awesome movie...everybody was chosen for their part magnificently...almost as if it were Jesus Christ Superstar...It's about God, and about man...and we are directly tied to God..and ourselves...love one another....

  • Amazing movie indeed. I am an atheist but the message of this movie is beyond any religion, any prayer, any hymn. All men are equal.

  • @fanirama You are wrong. The message of this movie is that the creator of the Universe wants to free his people from their bondage to sin, and in the same way that the Cross of Christ frees those who accept Jesus as Savior from slavery to sin and damnation to hell, God working through William Wilberforce and others had the grace of Christ to help free a people who sold themselves into slavery who never would have been free had it not been for Christ's work within those who serve him and obey.

  • @HermannTheGreat Without going into the religion vs atheism debate yet again, I want to say that you cannot say I am wrong. The message of the movie to me is all men are equal. (It should be obvious anyways, because really there isn't any proof for gods existence to begin with is atheists claim, you cannot believe in something that isn't proved to exist). Anyways, this movie/hymn has to do with Christianity, but the message of the movie is beyond any religion. All people are equal.

  • @fanirama You are wrong and you show yourself ignorant. Where do you think people developed the idea that all men are equal? They didn't just think it up one day, they were taught this Christian ideology from God. You cannot even have the concept of equality without the Bible and God. All men were created equal under God. "The Lord is no respecter of persons, he shows no favoritism."

  • @HermannTheGreat Absolutely wrong.Christianity is a borrowed religion from judaism.Concepts of men being created equal existed in Hinduism/Buddhism thousands/hundreds of years prior.Concept of equality has nothing to do with bible or god.it comes from innate human thinking. No one was created by anyone. We all evolved from simpler bio life. You can believe in your imaginary friends and books written by dozen primitive people while I believe in what is real.We just have to agree to disagree here.
