Oh, the one from Dissidia? Of course I have, you kid, you. There's also the pretty epic one from Advent Children. Regardless, it's still pretty dull in the grand scheme of things.
Not as original as you might think. DDS derives its story material heavily from Hindu mythology. Harihara is the combined form of Shiva and his wife Parvati- known in Hinduism as the "complete being." The term "Ardhanari" refers to this state of being. The game is chock-full of references- many of the enemies and damn near all the bosses are drawn directly from Hinduism. DDS does a great job of making an original game with borrowed myths, though... with an awesome soundtrack to boot.
Well yeah, Parvati was Shiva's wife. I got Ardhanari (Shiva + Parvati) confused with Hari-Hara (Shiva + Vishnu) XD
Incidentally, "Ardhanari" was a combo attack in Persona 3. It was accessed by having the personas Shiva and Parvati in the main character's posession simultaneously.
@Jimaera it's still original for a game to "borrow" something like this in this way. SMT is an "occult" game series and always "borrowed" things from religions and mythologies.
Yep, wait...have you finished this game yet? i dont want to spoil anything or give anything away by saying how you find out the boss is a hermaphrodite
@OyVeey Also this might be a bit late but I also noticed sevral simmilarities between Hellsinker and DDS. Both are set in post apockalyptic world's in constant rain, both have hinduism overtones, bothfeature enemies that used to be human, both center around a tall tower and both main protaganist have blades attached to their arms.
@fiercezero Well, Nyarlathotep shouldn't have a fixed gender, since he is the embodiment of pure chaos and evil. If the logic is right, then neither Pandora is male or female.
IMO, this is the best track in DDS1. It's actually my favorite end boss theme of all the PS2 SMT games. Really captures the scope and whats at stake for the battle.
@atoajvs Wait... what game do you get to fight Nyarlathothep?

One Winged Angel is actually a pretty dull final boss theme. You just haven't matured out of it yet.

@Kageryushin YOU apparently haven't heard the fully orchestrated version of it. YOU just haven't matured INTO it yet.

The original was actually better than the poorly done Advent Children version (in my opinion). But compared to this, it utterly fails anyhow.

Like with all Shin Megami Tensei games.
It's not called Goddess Reborn for nothing :P
Dojan5 2 years ago 2
It relates to the first game in the series, the heroine is Izanami in human form
RPGFan28 1 year ago
Slight correction: Harihara was actually the fusion of Shiva and Vishnu, not Parvati.
You're totally right about Ardhanari though
frankenvonvogler 2 years ago
Er, yeah, seems I got the two concepts slightly confused. XD
Jimaera 2 years ago
Maybe not...in DDS 2 you need an item that PARVATI drops to battle Shiva...I don't think it's coincidence o_O.

Nah. I don't have this game I have Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne. Always wanted to try this game out though.
darkwolfzain 2 years ago
Ah right ok i wont say then, Nocturne is a good game tho, there is a part in DDS where you have a chance to fight the Demi-fiend from Nocturne.
DevilBringer119 2 years ago
@fiercezero boss is not hermaphrodite, its 2 male gods combined, vishnu and shiva
parth961 1 year ago
@parth961 not the monster thing...I was talkin about hari-hara himself
fiercezero 1 year ago
@fiercezero yea, harihara is vishnu and shiva combined which are both MALE, how is that hermaphrodite?
parth961 1 year ago
@parth961 I think he means the character that turns into Hari Hara...(god that was a weird twist)
14thOmega 1 year ago
@parth961 Hm? I could've sworn that Harihara was Shiva and PARVATI combined.

@fiercezero Hellsinker does. No wait, it was one of the player characters that was a hermaphrodite.
matteste 9 months ago
@matteste Awesome, another Hellsinker fan!
Also, Garland may count as a hermaphrodite given that its sentience consists of four children (presumably of different genders).

@OyVeey I did'nt expect to be replied by another Hellsinker fan.
I think that might be more simmilar with Legion than a hermaphrodite

@fiercezero Well... persona 3 is debatable... i mean ryoji's male, and nyx is female, and they're kinda one and the same...
But in the next game your main final protagonist is a hermaphrodite!
