  • Non ricordo con chi stavo all'epoca . So solo che ogni volta che l'ascoltavo , mi prendeva un grande struggimento che ora non posso più sentire . Non so perchè ....

  • tried to get this song included in "Crimson Tide"...maybe to roll over the closing credits, I suggested...to no avail...sadly...I was the resident Gene - photo double...[part time pest-sorry Tony Scott and James 'thin-skin' Scothdople, the producer

  • @legendofthewest And saw him live not too long ago and it's amazing how little, if any, he's lost over the years.

  • This is the longer version, with an extended modulating middle instrumental middle section that leads to an heightened third verse. Always wondered why they did raise that third verse: it's harder to sing, harder to play (or, at least, you have to relearn the chords) and comes about in a way that you won't notice by just hearing it. They often performed it this way from '75 to '77 and the symphonic version (1995) uses that device again. Thanks for Antonio Costa Barbé to pointing out this to me.

  • NO COMMENT: Purely-lived tru and Majestic!

  • It was linda mccartney and john lennon's favorite composition, after seeing them in a concert.John said,if he could write such lyrics and clasic trained songlines,he really would be satisfied with his composing, but he can't !!!He loved it very much !Me too !

  • well Im young and thats why im shy

  • This song is about the journey of the saved soul. The Captain is Christ, the sailors are the saints and the ship is You, the soul. I wish you all the Very Best of Luck on your joruney...Not Many Make It Home...

  • Yeah one of the Greatest songs of All time ..truly in my top 10..high up there.. enjoy "Joggyn Smyler" music & Videos

  • well i am rich now

  • me ne ero dimenticato dei procol harum.

  • BJ Wilson tearing it up back there and we end up staring at Brooker....Why don't these cameramen get it?

  • Amazing and quite different. Pete Solley on organ and synth. Thank you!!!

  • @chriskar5 Well yes and interessting that he didn't use the legendary Hammond organ, instead he used a Farfisa Professional Duo! With Leslie of course. With this settings on the Farfisa, it sounds similiar to a Hammond.

  • hihi Im daddys little girl

  • bellissima

  • very religous. wow I love this so much. They have so many great tunes. wow

  • My Florida song..Gary still kicks ass to this day!

  • Gary Brooker is a genious. I loved his music when I was a teenager in the 70'ties, still do. Wish he could make more of those fantasic songs!

  • Maybe so, but I'am still listening. Still sounds good...

  • songs like this are from a time long gone... thanks

  • Gary Broker had already capped his teeth...

  • STUPENDA CANZONE DEGLI ANNI '70 CHE ASCOLTAVO DA BAMBINO IN UN PROGRAMMA "RAI"........... RICORDI TROPPO BELLI!!!!!!

  • Schade, dass Procol Harum in Videos immer nur auf eine Person reduziert werden.

  • @cloudjia I have seen some use a photo and a sound track to upload. If you could show me how to do that I would appreciate it,,,,,,, Bud Crawford

  • The best I can do is email you an mp3 of that.. I don't know how to upload it.. email me and I can send it,, buddo19ATptdDOTnet Which group were you with?

  • I sang this song in Buffalo NY for some of the same reasons in this comment section.. Someone out there may remember the group, Bud Crawford with"TOSSED SOLID" 1971.. We also did an arrangement of Pilgrims Progress... I still have a recording of that ,,

  • unvergesslich, unerreicht, unkopierbar einzigartig

  • I wonder if Elbow ever heard of a band called Procul Harem?

  • 31 don't like?????I can't understand....

  • mitici

  • Such a powerful voice. Robin Trower gives you shivers. And this was live. DAMN!!

  • @dabeefsdad Agreed... But this is not Trower (he left in 1973), this is Mick Grabham.

  • @JeckOverfull Sorry I was mistaken. You are right Trower had left by this time but I thought that this was actually Gary Brooker. They changed members a couple of times and Grabham is not familiar to my recollections. You may be right.

  • lets not get carried away but this come close to

  • full ruder to that

  • THANK YOU... Remember seeing them at THE EASTOWN THEATRE IN DETROIT IN THE MID 70's...loved them then ...still wonderfull memories now ...XO Mark

  • A tu. Si si, proprio tu! XD

  • Go ahead...now listen to Bon Jovi.

  • @Easleytee What - and kill my ears?? Are you nuts??

  • saw them in concert, early seventes at the electric factory in phila.....great group

  • @gratefulnlearning I was there too probably along with a lot of other folks. Came in from the shore (Beach Haven) to see them. Really liked Robin Trower. Still do

  • I love you Gary....saw you last year and you still sound amazing...♥ Thanks for the memories

  • one of THE songs of our golden times!!!!!! THANKS!

  • I saw an old man in HMS belfast in London. Maybe he had served in boat. In Finland we have no such. Only winter war, we did not manage the whole war/ wars. It is different to talk with a russian or so, you have conquered, you others ! You have that great warfare history taking you to hights. Truly it was just it to see that man looking behind the boat. That told me something.

When You're travelling the country, ask the armymen, what it is like ?

  • TROVATA!!!!!!!

    Bellissima canzone

  • per tutti coloro che non dimenticano!!!

  • Great song!

  • Magnifique groupe entendu en 1977 à Strasbourg - FRANCE.

J'ai gardé un très bon souvenir !!!

  • SEERED INTO OUR MEMORIES FOR THOSE WHO REMEMBER THEM 60'S BUT FOR ALL WHO STUMBLE UPON THIS SONG,AINT IT GREAT

  • @mikescruffy1

magnificent! when I'm slightly drunk, and singing along, it actually makes me weep with joy!

  • Yes, a time when the singers were just as good "live" - because they actually could SING

  • @legendofthewest

    Эта музыка вечна!

  • What a powerful vocal rendition from Gary Brooker! Just a fantastic song - so emotionally moving.

  • Good song, haven't heard it in a long time..

  • B J was one of the greats.....i saw this band at least a dozen times in the 60's and 70's...one of the great bands of all time

  • i got an original sound track of the background music in an very old CD which came out in 1998 called "Rock in the age"

  • BRILLIANT-I love the way he starts a bit fast and then slows it down after a few bars-who is this drummer-hes really great;he puts a slightly military feel in some of his fills which enhances the "theme nautic"as it were-great stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @guitrmn10 - The drummer is B.J. (Barrie) Wilson. You're right; he's great. I learned to appreciate rock drummers from watching and hearing him. You might want to check out concert versions of "Repent Walpurgis" or some other Procol Harum songs where you can really see him in action. He's amazing. My favorite drummer, no question!

  • @guitrmn10 - P.S. If you want to check "Repent Walpurgis," Muppet1950 posted a great live version from 1971. Barrie Wilson can be seen mostly from 5:30 thru the end. Spectacular!

  • Has there ever been written and performed a more beautiful and expressive song than this?

  • one of my faves

  • take um out

  • one of the greatest songs ever. period.

  • BEAUTIFUL....

  • What a sweet Tune ! Never to be outdone !

  • I cry every time I hear this song. It's so meaningful

  • i want to ask...what Procol Harum means?they are one of my favourites but i never asked about their name.Great song!!

  • @stavtsel i think it means something like "beyond the known", it was the name of one of the member's cat's.

  • @stavtsel Wikipedia has an explanation of the name. Just Google it.

why its a good song :p

  • @23moksha it is for me

  • @23moksha Right!

  • You rarely hear songs like this anymore. Songs that stir the imagination. Nowadays most everything is aimed for the groin.

  • Procol Harum were so much more than A Whiter Shade of Pale.

  • @JollyGraham It was just a pop song to get them noticed, to introduce the world to their immense talent. Not everyone dug deeper, but those of us were deeply rewarded, weren't we? :)

  • the English at their songwriting

    best

  • This was just so awesome. Procul and Gary Brooker one of the great soulful bands.

  • good drums

  • I saw Procol at the academy of music on 14th st st NYC back in 72. They came on at about 5:00am and it is something I'll never for get. In the top ten list they are in the top 3. Brooker's voice is insane.

  • Fantastic video capturing an incredible band playing a song that can bring a tear to my eyes sometimes.....What a voice, stunning performance!

  • 26 rappers found thier way here , i see

  • my tears are tears of joy

  • Those haunting piano chords and *that voice * combine to make one of the most emotionally affecting pop records ever made. I get spine chills and watery eyes from it every time, and very seldom does music do that to me.

  • @3shacks1house It is the eye of Horus according to Wikipedia it is an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power, and good health.

  • @3shacks1house

It's the Eye of Horus. I think Parsons still has both his eyes!

  • @3shacks1house

    it's the eye of anubis

  • @mistad00m Sorry dOOm, ride8575 is right. It's the eye of Horus, or Ra (the Egyptian Sun God)

  • @3shacks1house it's the eye of ra. egyptian symbolism was pretty big at the time.

  • I'd forgotten about this one. This is work of Art.

  • I say farewell to a friend and a shipmate Joe A Acosta. Died yesterday with a heart attack. A fine sailor who loved his Navy so dearly. Never saw his first retirement check. Fair Winds and Following Seas. Sailors never die they just sail away......far away.

  • @muxsailor --Bummer. Condolences to his, and all that was he. Thanks for serving Joe.

Mux- You gonna be okay ?

  • How good was the late BJ Wilson?!.. I saw him with Cocker once back in the '80's. Never seen a drummer like him. As the Wiki says.. 'like an octopus in a bathtub..'. Gary Brooker too is outstanding.. oh to be able to sing like that.. ;-)
