  • We all know what happend to that pig...

  • I KNEW that was Henry Rollins! Hours of arguing with friends have been vindicated!!!!!

    ....I'm hungry

  • @jeefro well you was dead right sir, tell them to piss off

  • i had no idea that's rollins on the album! that's badass.

  • At 1:36 is that a satanic pentagram? Just asking 'cause I'd like to know the name of it so I can get it tattoed (makes it easier on Google to find...)

  • @sanctim0nia Pentagrams have only become satanic through modern culture. That's not what they were used for back in the day. Don't get a stupid tattoo.

  • @colonelsanta I don't wanna get a stupid satanist sign on my back, that's why I'm asking the exact name of the symbol shown in the video (with the strange egyptian-looking things) For me it would represent my admiration for Danny Carey and his philosophy...

  • I was OGT back in ninety two from the first EP

  • @jointhemodernworld what are you talking about?

  • Comment removed

  • @jointhemodernworld How can that be when you don't even have a penis? Fuck off troll. Tool FTW.

  • Ns-10 yamaha ????? WOOW i think those are horrible. TOOL THE BEST!!

  • @555LsM666 they're great for mixing. if your mix sounds good on those, there's a great chance it'll sound good anywhere.

  • So cool to see them excited about the same thing we got excited about when this came out. Sometimes it seems they're unaffected by what they produce... I'm affected in a huge way.

  • lol @ the pentagram on the wall

  • heyyyy, at the end (8:11), is that the pig that is in the album art with the forks underneath?

  • look at how differently Maynard and Rollins feel the music during the mid section of "Bottom" 6:14

  • maynard HAS bieber fever...

  • @aphex117 barack obama IS a legit president.....

  • @killerproctologist

LOL just as "Legit" as Bush. They're all related. They're all working for the same Agenda. Wake up.

  • @omaxpi Wow! It all makes sense now! Thanks, man! Glad I'm not a sheep anymore like the rest of those darned conformists! Anyway, back to my World of Warcraft...

  • I didn't know that Henry Rollins had a Einsturzende Neubauten tattoo.

  • I luv TOOL long live prog!!!! The reason the snare sounds fatter is because everything thing you hear is recorded with a camcorder. TOOL sounds even better on vinyl throught my HI-FI system. Talk about off the real sound!!!

  • I luv TOOL long live prog!!!! The reason the snare sounds fatter is because everything thing you hear is recorded with a camcorder. TOOL sounds even better on vinyl throught my HI-FI system.

  • Awesome. Can someone do one of these for RATM pls! On the album this snare sounds fatter than the actual room sound on here!

  • Love that little jam Adam plays at 2:27-2:54 wish I could have heard the whole thing though.

  • @Traduced1 go listen to bottom

  • @chubbymctubby I've listened to bottom and that part of the song isn't in there. I wish it was.

  • to be there and hear that through the monitors straight off the reel, through the board, would be fucking EPIC!

  • when they start playing the end of bottom though <3

  • fucking luciferian! MASONIC symbolism all over this

  • 6:07 Billy Howerdel :D

  • I never thought I would see the making of an album that would go on to change my life.

  • I've gone great lengths to expand my threshold of pain! classic. Rollins is an original thinker who has been on the scene for longer than most realize. This is hard for some to deal with. Yet it is fact.

  • @bigligg67 agreed

rollins is a true artist who transcends every sort of bullshit label that is given to him

he deserves the respect of anyone involved in the great spectrum of counterculture

  • i guess this sort of makes sence - henry rollins is a tool. it's the irony of Tool being a unique and interesting band coinciding with Rollins being a completely predictable douch.

  • @hollowman103 Totally agree... Rollins is an insecure poser dickhead wannabe, his past kind of confirms that.

  • @Nisp2

He's no poser. He plays music for himself and he does it great.

He can be a dickhead from what I've seen but that shit doesn't matter when it comes to music. When it comes to music.....the MUSIC matters.

It's not like you personally know anybody in this video.... They could all be dickheads. But who knows and who cares cause they make great fuckin tunes and that's what matters.

  • Maynard reminds me of of Les Claypool + Acid here.

  • that tone adam jones has is freakin awesome

  • OMG, the song they were doing at 3:36-5:55 was kick-ass

  • @MyPinkNBlack

Fuck yeah!! Bottom with the always awesome Henry Rollins!!

  • @MyPinkNBlack

    that would be Bottom.

  • 3 people missed the like button.

  • LaVeyan Satanism is the best religion out there!

Sadly enough...i only believe in one god.

My one god has to be ofcourse....the spaghetti monster.

  • I like Justin but I definitely dug Paul too.

  • She looks like a dude but she's an awesome producer.

  • All of you are ignorant phux.... I hope you realize that the bro's in the band laugh every time they read these blogs.... not ONE of you know what you;re talking about, but I do enjoy this kind of debate.... so funny that bands like Tool and RATM say some heavy things and their fans truly have no clue.......exactly why Zack left the band years ago....

  • @picodeguyo why are you such a dildo

  • Henry Rollins! Fuck yeah man!!!

  • he's drumming to intolerance in the beginning :D

  • to me this song is like one legend passing the torch to the next legend

  • sylvia massy is one of the greatest producers in alternative metal ever

  • Really cool inside look at the recording. Henry Rollins kicks ass, reminds me of listening to Black Flag, good times!

  • Alot of people relate the star behind danny to satanism, therefore holding judgement against the band before they have even heard them.

  • does anyone even know the sigils on that baphomet board? the p.u.p lodge was a strong arm for the temple of set but to make a short story long...they had a falling out

  • Yeah real deep stuff it is!

  • wow you guys are nutz!

  • the seven sided star is sacred geometry, people, there are worst things to fear than the so called devil or god by that matter, the thing you must fear the most is your yourself, you are your own terror

  • at 1:28 you can see that he used to have 10" and 12" toms, i think, and an 8" at his far left. i always thought hes drums sounded extra low on Undertow, except for a few high pitch his, like on 4 Degrees

  • Advertisign satanism? *clap* *clap*. Ignorants.

  • i wonder if they knew that they were creating one of the greatest alternative masterpieces of all time.

  • How did you get this footage?

  • What more can I ask Henry Rollins and TOOL, and a real TAD shirt. It's Christmas all over again

  • that dood guest singing looks like henry rollins

  • @musicPMA he is indeed

  • Funny I gave a Tool Cd to a Drum student He thought it was Satanic!

i had to tell him all about them!

  • @Simonefunkydrummer I remember my art teacher used to listen to rock. Back in the days I went to bands contest, and there was this kids playing Sober from tool. I was impressed by everything. Went back the other day and ask my art teacher, hey man you know this band Tool. And he was like yeah get this Cd and listen to it. The album was Aenima...

  • henry rollins

  • i love undertow, its a very dark record, i love tool because they always try to push the boundries in there music,

  • Tool rawks

  • 5:26

  • Great album, awful recording...

  • @godsizedhole thats cuz it wuz almost 20 years ago and it was only thier 1st full album, besides opiate

  • such a wet sounding pig at the end.

  • I Wish they would release a Remastered version of this album; Its way past time. And none of that Hyper-Compressed bullsh-t all of the bands from the 90's have been pushing out lately.

  • It could be awesome.

  • That was really cool, thanks for posting.

  • @ 1:25, Was Danny playing Third Eye?

  • What song is this? Undertow. When was Third Eye produced? '96. Use a little logic next time.

  • This is the Undertow albums.

The whole album was written way before 1992.

  • Yeah, I know. It's hard to give a rhetorical question in text.

  • You know songs can be written and played years before they are ever put on an album. Be nicer. And use a little logic next time. But let us keep this on a positive note and let me say thanks for liking good music. Also, thanks for putting this video up...pretty neat.

  • @Spartan409 Well danny carey was in a side project called zaum, and they have songs that use different parts from songs like merkaba, and third eye. I don't think third eye was mastered during this era of tool. So in a way, yes he was playing a part that is featured in third eye.

  • What's Danny using for toms? I see 5 toms and 1 roto-tom (1:27). I've only seen and read about him using 4 toms (8",10",14", 16") and the 1 roto-tom. Looks like the extra one is a 12" mounted left of the ride, where he normally has the 10" and the 8" ended up to the left of the hi hat. Does anybody know anything on this?

  • His kit's a little different in several ways, the ride cymbal positioning for example. Ease of recording dictates some of these things. As for the reason behind using a 12 inch tom in addition to his now normal setup, who knows. More drums is better right?

  • 2:15 sound awesome!

  • maynard with the coffee mug around 6:35. priceless.

  • holy fuckin shit i didnt know henry rollins did the monologue thing on bottom cuz i know it didnt sound like maynard so i thought it was paul or somebody

  • this is so fucking badass ass kick man the albums still bad and heavy and bad in a desert way evilness yes please

  • exactly i no its my opionion as a someone says something ppl hav 2 correct you.

  • I wish Rollins kept the original lyrics Maynard wrote for that part on "Bottom." I didn't like the changes he made.

  • wait......what do you mean? maynard wrote something different? seriously, ive been looking this shit up all day online and i cant find the original lyrics...help me out bro

  • he originally wrote lyrics for that part but henry changed them a bit. Maynard performs the original lyrics live.

  • the best rock band in the world

  • Are you insinuating that this record would suck without Rollins? He's on it for like 2 minutes...the whole album kicks ass. While that 2 minutes is damn cool, it does not "make the record."

  • @bretton987 Just kidding. It is pretty cool, though. TOOL is a fascinating institution; love the band, loathe the fans.

  • @bretton987 It's a fact.

  • thanks for posting

  • nu uh laterlus is there best undertow is 2nd

  • There is no best... They are all their own unique experience.

  • YOUR opinion

  • best f****** video on youtube!

  • Hah, yeah... Sylvia... that fucking bitch. I fully understand why Tool hate her.

  • And why would that be?

  • Well... I was a bit harsh in my previous post... they don't really "hate" her... let's just say they'd rather not work with her again. :)

  • That sucks. IMO she worked on the best albums they put out. That is just my opinion though.

  • Opiate and Undertow are hardly their best albums, IMHO.

  • Yeah not to take away from the current releases they are great. My first introduction back in 92 was with Opiate and then Undertow. I suppose I prefer the rawness of those albums.

  • what?!

  • Why what happened?

  • Friction.

  • And why would that be?

  • Do you base that on some inside info? Or, did you merely parrot what you read in an interview where they --- without being specific --- vowed to never work with her again? I read the same interview, by the way, and have it here in the other room if you need me to go get it for you. Massy, in her defense, isn't crying at all about not working with them. She's more than happy not being pigeonholed as a "metal" producer, and has quite an eclectic roster of names on her resume other than Tool.

  • this is very cool. Thanks for posting! I love TOOL!!!

  • i love the fact that were watching the making of undertow and every one is only concern with an upside down star on a flag. lol

  • Quite surprised that nobody seemed to know about Rollins on Bottom, it does say it on the sleeve notes! Revelation!!!!

  • henry rollins is the man i never realised that it was him on that albumn

  • You look so precious now, pig

  • FUCKING Henry Rollins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • pentagrams make me wanna poop. get over it.

  • They arent advertising satanism you fucks!!! seven sided stars doesnt equal satanic symbolism man! Tool is way more spiritual then your typically satanic bullshit band out there. They explore consiousness and shit like that they dont give a fuck about satanic shit.

  • First off, not a seven-sided star. Second off, it's one of the many illuminadi symbols. The best thing about tool is they're all about progression. Sometimes in order to achieve progression, one must analyze faults and mistakes; as well as obstacles :)

  • Even if it were, I don't imagine demons will come spewing forth through center of the flag.

  • no they arent a satanic band, they are very spiritual and open towards their music, but they do incorparate evil elements, inclluding, ocassionall,y (mainly danny carrey i believe) Satan. when tey won a grammy for theyre laterus album, he thanked his friends family and Satan. Tounge in cheek?

  • Yes, very.

  • Lol, no. The thanking Satan thing was a joke. They have no "evil" elements.

  • @arthurk9 not true danny is into cult worship and witch craft past on by his father. i dont know if he still does it. the band it self is into feeling spirit lifting pushed by adam then adam and mj. but i think after mj's mother died he became a chirstian, but back in those days in undertow he mocked god and anyone who followed

  • @brandeno15 no Maynard is not a christian LO fuckin L and they don't "worship satan". Its a little deeper than that bull shit. They are the last band I can think of that would fall for a brainwashing dogma. "Think For Yourself, Question Authority".

  • @erocker2020 did i say satan worship fuck head????? No, i said cult worship past down by hsi father and yes thats true, and yes MJ did become a chirstian....i bet that just busts your bubble that he grew up back in undertow and aeima he was really lost, then he started thinking alittle bit more and started think that anger is not a good energy and that love is better, thats when he came up with lateralus. Then his mother started dieing and he came to the lord. Go listen to 10,000 days again dude

  • @brandeno15 Where did you read that he became a christian, I think you are gravely mistaken.

  • @brandeno15 yeah it sounds like you think God and love belong to Christianity. I believe in God but not the Christian God. And I don't think Aenima was an angry album, thats when they started changing from anger to love, not 10,000 days. Read "The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life" or a good Kabbalah book and their lyrics will mean something totally differant to you. Thats the stuff that Maynard is into.

  • @erocker2020 you believe in A god, i believe in THE God. and yes aenima was an angry album!!!!What do you think aenima even means? Its about taking a hose and putting it in your ass to flush out crap, in maynerbs terms means to flush the world away!! He was into the pagan religion on love, that was in the lateralus days, every one trys to forget about 10,000 days because of the meaning people, like you, refer to the way maynerds thinking right now as if he was still in the early 2000's

  • @brandeno15 thats an enima you are thinking of. And anima means soul or spirit. So many people believe the meaning of the album is a play on words meaning to clean out your soul, or something along those lines. And while recording 10,000 days Maynard did say he found Jesus, but it was an April fools joke.(look it up) Read interviews or do research about the band if you wish to argue with Tool nerds bro. Once you KNOW something is false(religions) then you can't just un-know it one day.

  • @erocker2020 Maynard is in fact a cynical x-tian. jokes on you. jokes on the other guy, because May also stated he "doens't believe in all the pokey stuff from Lateralus".

  • @Dertygian OK, I have been following Tool since 1994. Reading every interview and "Favorite Books Lists" the band did. Link one shred of evidence that Maynard is a Christian.

  • @erocker2020 I doubt he's stupid enough to be a christian

  • @erocker2020 mjk hates the thought of there being a god,but its good to blame him when things r good, when youve got cancer,he the one bloke who u will speak 2 .l

  • Comment removed

  • @Dertygian. First of all, wtf? Second, "May" .... really?

  • @arthurk9 That star represents fertility in pagan culture, Far different then satanism.

  • @arthurk9 That's not entirely true, although I appreciate your tenacity.

At the Grammy's, D.Carey and J. Chancellor (I think thats how you spell his name...) thanked Satan. This is fact. Whether they were joking or not, I, a satanist, understand the majority of their symbols.

Sorry, bud. But only satanists know that seven sided stars resemble Babylon, and that is her star.

If you dont know what Im talking about, its because you have no idea, which means your response up there was uneducated.

  • @23DNicholas hey, so are you saying that the star that is behind him is of satanism? or no?

  • @arthurk9 While the band has been known to explore all those conscious points, Carey is an admitted Satanist. He follows the occult amongst other things.

No big deal. just funny. He's so relaxed for a satanist.

  • @Deadbeans i find that hard to believe, ive never read anything about him being a satanist, occult yes, but not satanism...

  • @scotteeeey satan has nothing to do with it, the pentagram and candles is a summoning ritual for spirits from the 4th dimension(they dont have to be evil) to be with danny while recording, he also has some kind of gas in the room too, hydrogen i think, im not kidding by the way.

  • ...pentagram and satanism only matches if you add them a bit of hipocrisy.

    cheers

  • ladies and gentlemans, Danny Carey !

  • At 3:47: HHEEEENNRRRYYYYY!!!!

  • This is just an aMAZING session all the way around!

  • pause at 00:20 lol he looks FUCKED up

  • 7:18

Whoa WHOA! Whats that mixing board!? Did you say something?! HUH?! yeahhhhh i thought not!

  • OMG, look how tiny May is beside Henry! Lol, thts ok he more than makes up 4 it w/t tht big voice.

  • i always thought it was adam who did the poetry thing in the bottom

  • Henry Rollins In Bottom????

    Didnt Know That!!!!!!!

  • this is sound city studios, where metallica just recorded as well as rage

  • The old bassist was good too

  • OMG ive always wanted to see this! i love bottom its one of tools best songs in my opinion. :D

  • CREATURE THE NEW BREED ......type it in!!

  • I really wonder, after seeing him drum, if Danny truly, in the darkest reaches of his soul, believes in that sacred geometry.

  • Dude it really isn't that fucking deep. Its deep to you because you don't understand that its in your every second of life. If you did your research instead of acting like its this unfathomable enigma, it would humble the fuck out you.

  • Looking back, I believe that I misstated my original question -- I wasn't questioning the observable phenomenon of sacred geometry (phi, the Golden Ratio, etc.) but more the inexplicable aspect. Like, really? Summoning a demon to help him play better?? 0.o

  • *sighs.....i wish i had known more about it before i chose to hallucinate for the first time...i feel like i missed out on a very important message while these patterns and colors where the only thing i could comprehend...i would try it again, but it took several months for me to get to a point where i wasn't seeing it every day...TheTallMonkey...he is not kidding when he says it will humble the fuck out of you....

  • The way they scream "DEAD INSIDE" on Bottom together sounds absolutely wicked... why doesn't it sounds like that on the album? :(

  • They mixed it different for the final cut I suppose. I know what you mean, it does sound better.

  • amazing, thank you

  • that drum beat at 2:13 is so awesome

  • intolerance is such an undermentioned tool song, its great.

fyi, the drum part is at the beginning
