My band had the honor of backing Rick derringer and mountain (lesley west) up in Brockton, Ma remova park 1991 smoked a joint with him and his band back stage
@georgesorosisgay1 I don't know if Rick would smoke a joint these days. Rick, like Mark Farner, became born again Christians. They're high on Jesus now.
I saw Edgar on March 8th, 1984 (my 24th b-day) in a small bar in Nordeast Minneapolis called The Union. He was so wasted that when the session was over it took two roadies to lead him outta the bar. I fired up a number when he did "Tobacco Road"... Good times back in the day.
This is a great version of this song.....thanks for posting.
White Trash were opening for Alice Cooper in Ottawa...Alice got snowed in at the airport in Toronto and could'nt make it....Edgar Winter And The White Trash played and extra 1 1/2 hours....it was orgasmic.
Alice showed up and played the next night.
Seen Johnny 4 times....the greatest guitar player that ever lived.
@JohnnyHorton : Likewise. I've met both Johnny and Edgar, and this most definitely sounds like Johnny. Been listening to Johnny since I was 16 (I'm 55 now), and there's no mistaking that voice.
@barrydawoodsman man aint it funny how such a strange story can be so similiar to someone elses. My dad brought this home, i only listened to that same side, and there was plenty of shitty grass back then! We listened to this all the time, that and Still alive and well. Looooove that album!
I got this album in 8th grade, 1972. Wore it out. Wear out the CD now. The version of this song on this album is THE definitive version. I was so bummed when Derringer's single came out. Kept telling my friends "No, listen to this! Screw the answer vocals, listen to the twin lead answering back!"
I met the White Trash band (and I was a BIG fan at the time) In Detroit metro airport. Edgar, Jerry, Rick etc... They were very nice but I didn't know what to say, so I simply thanked them for their awesome work and went on my way. Looking back, I think is was the right thing to do - they seemed to appreciate me not trying to climb all over their face with idiot fan drivel
Johnny Winter rocks! The hottest guitar lick ever ! I wish I could have been there to see him do this one! Thanks for putting this on the internet! Jadeblue
I feel this is the most musical version of RRHC ever! Everything really works well together! The bass part really grows from the edge to the end. Edgar and his Univox piano are hammering and stabbing. The horns and guitar work are insane with fat harmonies and thrust. Even the guitar solo has major melody. Just a great musical journey from the intro to outro'.... BRAVO!!!
love this song !!!!!!

Joeyfulco speaks the truth. This version is far superior to Derringer's slick FM version. And you NEVER HEAR IT.

I heard this album around 1973 or so. Those were the days of pot and magic trips. It holds some great memories for me.
