Suikoden is not even an English word, so who gives a fuck if a native English speaker cannot pronounce it? Certainly not me and I speak both English and Japanese.
And if people are going to be fucking know-it-alls about the game and criticize fellow fans, they'd know to call it Gensosuikoden which is its real name. Luckily people who aren't fucktards wouldn't give a shit if they did or didn't. And those that do? They can go fuck themselves.
I've looked at 4 videos on YouTube of people who are calling themselves Suikoden fans yet none of them can even pronounce Suikoden correctly. Including this one.
@kawaiigirls5 I doubt anyone who don't even realize that there's a letter "i" in "Suikoden" can fully enjoy the game. If one can't see something as in-your-face obvious as that letter "i" in the title of the game no less, one can potentially be considered partially illiterate and therefore cannot fully play an RPG game as the makers intended without assistance from someone who can actually read.
@eriquerique Dude, you are entirely too angry about this subject. I'm sorry I was too busy playing one of the best PS1 RPGs to bother learning how to pronounce a word that doesn't even show up in the game. I also don't need your blessings to do any of this, so if you must be unnecessarily entitled, please do it somewhere else.
@kawaiigirls5 You're lecturing me about the complicated rules of English grammar? You who failed to notice that there's a letter "i" between "u" and "k" in "Suikoden". Hm. That's interesting. Probably you have a PhD in grammatical studies but flunked reading, huh. Or maybe you Americans pronounce words like "anguish" as "An-GOO-sh" or "acquire" as "ack-OO-re". A native English speaker criticizing an Indonesian guy's English grammar because grammar is sooo much simpler than reading. Ooh, score.
@eriquerique Good job avoiding my previous statement about the word not even showing up in the game just to take the exact same shot about the "i" in Suikoden.
@kawaiigirls5 Oh yeah, sorry about that. I was actually getting to that - it's just that as you know, YouTube has character limits on comments...anyway, OK OK how's this: Oh you want to talk about words that show up in the game? If you can't even pronounce "Suikoden", I shudder to think how you would pronounce "Milich Oppenheimer' or "Kwanda Rosman" or "Rokkaku". How's that? Too easy? I...got nothing else. LOL
Furthermore, name me a single person who has perfect grammar, spelling, and syntax. Only a person who can meet such standards, as you would put it, can fully enjoy this game.
Notice how you also fail to meet these standards, as pointed out by Kawaiigirls. Does that also mean you can't fully appreciate this game in all it's creative glory? Certainly not.
@eriquerique I've been studying Japanese for 8 years and don't give a flying fuck if someone can pronounce the name of a game properly and neither should you. Japanese folks flub English words on a daily basis. Life goes on, get over it.
@Tochir0 Nope. Didn't even scrape on the subject of Japanese pronunciation. I was talking about ENGLISH pronunciation. Even I'm not THAT much of a pronunciation Nazi to expect a non-Japanese to pronounce a Japanese word correctly.
@eriquerique I seriously hope you are merely trolling, otherwise you are truly a pathetic and worthless person. Really? He can't enjoy the game because he didn't pronounce something correctly? On that logic you might as well say a foreigner to the English language can not enjoy talking just because they mispronounce certain words.
When you say "Twilight of Gaming." I'm thinking of Twilight (the one about pussy vampires), and I think you're insulting whatever it is you're talking about.
I love the suikoden series, i have all the games except 3 which unfortunately was never released in europe, have seen walkthrough on youtube tough. 4 was a bit of disappointment but 1, 2 and 5 are excellent. I really hope they make a sixth game into the main series someday!
I'm a major fan of this game and I too played it when it first came out. Just want to let you know if you don't know already, She can be saved and thank God because when I first played Suikoden 2 it hit a soft spot.
What I love about Suikoden games is that so many characters play important roles, not just the player party. You really feel like you are building a nation. There are tons of twists and turns throughout the overall war which keeps things interesting, and don't forget Luca Blight who is an awesome baddie. What other video game villain takes 18+ people to take down who has no god-like magic powers.
Thanks for this video I really enjoyed it, I just fired up my Playstation 1 after 7 years and remember playing Suikoden II on it, I still have it and will play it through again.
Its from that game on that every RPG has spiky-haired emo protagonists with big swords to compensate for their small dicks, where the world is so terribly anachronistic that it defies reason, where side characters mean nothing but to be cheap stereotypes and window dressing, where recurring theme goes out the window and plot goes down the toilet. I credit FF7 with the downfall and death of RPGs within the last decade.
Suikoden II was one of the best though and only second to FFIV.
And I'll say it again, Sephiroth sucks as a villain. All he is is a punktard who realized he was a test tube baby and so decided he wanted to take over the world and be god-- which when you read that again, makes no logical sense. People say it was Jenova but really, no one's sure as there are many points in the story where Sephiroth is both inferior and superior to Jenova at the same time. But most of all, the example FF7 has set has become so common in today's RPGs that its sickening.
Suikoden II dumps on FF7. When you really break down FF7's plot, its not that impressive. Most side characters climax by the first cd and loss all point through the rest (Nanaki, Barret, Yuffie, etc.). There doesn't seem to be really any reoccurring themes. The antagonist (Sephiroth) ISN'T REALLY THAT GOOD. The female lead is repulsive and her effect on Cloud after her death isn't even realistic considering they have maybe two very short sequences together and the rest is just battle.
They need to hurry up and re-release this in some form. Even if it means on the PSN. I would buy a 360 solely for this game if they were to release it on that even. (I know that would happen for the PSN first). JESUS BRING THIS GAME BACK TO MY HEART!
I dunno, man. Rock-paper-scissors-like fighting system, lots of random battles, fetch quests. You're not totally selling me on this game. I want somebody to sell me on this game.
@fingersmaloy The rock-paper-scissors factor in this game mostly revolves around duels but duels take up only a small portion of combat in this game compared to the other 2 big ones.and even if duels are limited in terms of selection and may require luck, they still provide excitement and epicness to the events that transpire during these duels and in effect, make this game greater.
@fingersmaloy The army system(massive battles) has more strategy and goes by a grid (almost like a geniuine tactics) system, which requires mostly skill but may require luck in certain situations. and the regular battles are similar to other rpgs but are still awesome since the diverse amount of characters and runes make the random battles still often enjoyable.
you got nanami killed? you're suppose to get all 108 stars right before the final battle. If you do that, then she'll live in the end. Suikoden has alternate endings you know. It's the same with the first one with gremio. plus, you have to get her defense stats all the way up before you meet garudo at matilda. trust me, i finished the game with her alive. i wonder if you completed clive's quest? because you can complete it if you don't screw around too much in the game.
Su (pronounced Sue) I (the E sound in KEY) Ko (rhymes with joe) De (the e is like the e in egg) N (a nasal n, not the same as westerners pronounce it). thats only if the name is pronounced in japanese though. feel free to pronounce any which hilarious way. great review by the way, piques my interest. if i had played it i woulda kept watching past the characters dying part (spoilar(
Well I was wondering whether I should get suikoden 3 or not..heard both good and bad things about it. Can you do a review on it? or maybe even an overview of the whole series? thanks
Um...the series is pronounced Suuweekuuden. You know, take the name Sue, add an ee sound (like found in words like need, speed, deep), ku, (as in Ku Klux Klan), and then den (almost the same way you pronounce den as in Daniel and the Lion's Den, only a little softer in pronounciation). Just an FYI.
It seems fitting for you to do a review of Silent Hill: Homecoming. I'd like to see what you have to say about it in comparison to Shattered Memories.
I played Suikoden II first also and I would agree that once you play the 2nd the first is just very bare in comparison. I have to say that Suikoden II is my favorite RPG of all time just recently dethroning Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross...Suikoden II's story is just so compelling and emotionally deep that you can't help but feel attached to the characters. Best RPG.

Your arguments are full of logical fallacies.
Let's tear apart your argument, and see how your reasoning ultimately fails in the face of logic.
Partially illiterate because of a mispronunciation.
P1: A person must be fully literate to enjoy Suikoden 2.
P2: Person A is not fully literate.
Conclusion: Person A can not enjoy Suikoden 2.
Reason Fail: A single account of a mispronunciation of a word is not evidence that Person A can not read and enjoy the game.
