I have to wonder and ask about extreme weather conditions as with anything like this leaving and using in the car. I'd hate to think the battery may also have caused a fire. I have heard of stock displays not working right either.

and then, can you use the 3g cellphone for the gps or I would need another 3g connection just for the tablet?

awesome idea to use the dvd drive as a slider. ive been on mp3car too, wanted to do a car pc years ago, now a tablet looks like the better choice, its an all in one pc, you can take it out, way less wiring and more functionality. I have a bit more room than your dash has so i was looking at the galaxy tab 8.9, my only gripe was with the storage limits, and lack of features on that tablet. then I found the Archos 80, 8" 4:3 screen, android 3.1, 250gb hdd, 1.5ghz dual core, perfect for a car pc!
