  • I got The Collective, and loved it so much I bought Monument and Carving Desert Canyons. It's all so damn good, I can't stop listening to it! Scale the Summit is now officially my 4th favorite band (3rd Symphony X, 2nd Joe Satriani, 1st Dream Theater). Keep it up, you guys are incredible!

  • @LedSatriani Nice! Glad to hear we follow such great bands! Appreciate all the support. -Chris

  • what tunning you guys use

  • @ComfortablyNumbAgain They use Standard Tuning for all the songs in The Collective and Carving Desert Canyons, not too sure about Monument, but I think it would be Standard also.

  • Guys, i must say that i'm very impressed at looking how you do all those licks and riffs with so loose hands that it looks like you not even breaking a sweat!! New fan definitively!! Great work!

  • Will you guys be releasing bass tab book for this album at all? And your bassist plays a Peavey Cirrus, right?

  • @DaveClayification yes, we are actually talking about that right now. we're having a hard time finding someone to do the layout for it. and yes. -chris

  • are u guys considered djent sound? or tone?, w.e it is

  • @XSVmetalband absolutely not.

  • @scalethesummit kk thats what i thought, thank you, i won my self 30 bucks :) lol, yeah i just won a bet (y)

  • what kind of bass does your bass player use in this video?

  • travis with the frank zappa shirt ftw

  • The bass player looks like that warewolf dude from twilight.

  • @jeremebonesaw ha, he gets that almost everyday while on tour!

  • @scalethesummit He's got more talent in just one pinky though

  • Hey Chris, just wondering what kind of differences there are when playing sitting and having your guitar on your "picking leg" compared to a more classical position like the one you use. Thanks :)

  • you guys should do gear reviews, i think everyone would appreciate that. like guitars reviews, amps, recording equipment, the whole works. wed appreciate that alot. sincerely, - a loving fan.

  • what's the point of having "towel" on the guitar neck?

  • @QewerCrazy It's a dampener, to dampen the other strings while you play so no noise emanates from the other strings. I know they can play with pretty much the same amount of skill to stop all noise from the strings anyway, but on the record you don't want any noise right

  • You guys look no older then me and I'm 15 you must've picked up the guitar while you were in your mothers womb jesus christ you guys rule

  • I saw in the Guitar World video thing that you guys are in 7 string standard for "Whales", are most of the songs on the album played in standard? 7 string songs that is. The music you guys play is incredible so cheers guys!

  • @BMNBMETAL666 Yeah, they're in standard. BEADGbe

  • thanks a lot man!

  • "Get The Fuck Out Of My Face.."

    LOL.

  • Sounds downright rad as hell. Does anyone know what string gauges these guys use for their 7's?

  • @MyScaryScrotum Thanks a lot dude! Its standard tuning, B E A D G B E, string gauge 10 - 56

  • STEINBERGER FTW

    0:02

  • @Rickfan4003 its a a 7 string Strandberg actually.

  • @scalethesummit I <3 Strandbergs...Wish I had one :(

  • What is that beautiful bass, I love it so much! Does anyone know?

  • @rockerstevegh3 looks like a high end peavey cirrus, i didnt think they made those that nice

  • @rockerstevegh3 Im pretty sure its the Peavy Cirrus 6

  • Such beautiful music! Also like that you guys reply to fans :) Makes you even more awesome!

  • superb job guys on the album. the sound is very rich. wondering if there's any word on a vinyl edition. that would be sick.

  • I don't know if this is legal but, I transcribed "Whales" and am making my rendition of it for my jazz combo to play at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Just thought I could ask?

  • @drummakid101 Don't think its illegal unless you are getting paid for it. Would love to see a video of that when you are done though. Seems cool! -Chris

  • @scalethesummit

    Oh god yes! Thanks!

  • chris, travis, jordan, pat. i love you guys.

  • @synawat love you!

  • @scalethesummit best moment of my life right there.

  • the collective is my album of the year so far.

i listen to lots of prog music. but this album takes my breathe away.

what makes it even more special is they are so young.

  • @ianhow70 thanks a lot! appreciate that. -chris

  • What's the name of that guitar in the beginning? Is that a caparison?

  • @Benawisan its a Sherman 7 string. Its a customs shop out of CT. -Chris

  • Your bass player reminds me of the werewolf from twilight.. LOL

    You guys are awesome though

  • @Siah2000 he gets that usually once a day while on tour from someone random. haha. he really does though. -chris

  • In the second part, it looks like you're kinda finger picking the chords, with the way you move your middle finger

  • if yall are here in houston, were do yall record

  • Hey I was wondering if I could get some advice on guitars from you guys. Well first of all I love you guys music and the tones that your guitars have is phenomenal! Here's my situation: I'm a jazz guitar player and I'm looking to get into 7 or 8 string guitars. I want to know if I can find one that sounds great clean, has humbuckers(personal preference), and that fits my hand nicely. Any tips you can give me on how to select a scale length? And do you have any experience with the Agile guitars?

  • @geleth123 thanks a lot dude, really appreciate all the compliments. sadly, im not the greatest person to ask for guitar advice as i'm picky as hell and order all of mine as customs so I get everything the way I want it and im 100% satisfied.

  • @geleth123 my buddy recently got a wight agile 7 string and that thing sounds incredible. im a drummer so i dont know all the different specs but i know he is damn pleased with it. he just told me yesterday that he's thinkin abiout buying an 8 string in the near future

  • Lol I love this band

  • good get the fuck out of my face hahaha

  • Does anyone know what songs can be played on a 4 string bass?

  • @MyEverConstantSmile your mother

  • "Get the fuck outta my fayheyheyceee."

  • yo this album is tits brah

  • to substitue for the 7sting guitar for a 6sting, what should be the tunning be?

  • @chuyitodejesus The difference between a 6 and 7 string is the low B so on a 6 string Change the low E to a lower B Thats enough to let you play anything on the album, except you would need to change the positions the notes are played at to your guitar. experiment with changing the other strings it might be easier if you tune it B-E-B-D-A-E just try some different stuff and see what works : )

  • Me and my drummer were listening to you guys last night on the way to the rehersal studio. You could definately hear some of you guys creeping into the new song's we were writing :D

Thankyou for being so epic. And if you get a chance, please check out my band and let us know what you think. For some reason youtube wont let me comment with our video's URL, but if you search "Snohtbaen Son" we're the only result.

Thanks again guys for doing what you do, and keep it up :)

  • @DiesEtIrae Awesome dude, glad to hear we're sneaking into you guys music. Will definitely check you guys out. yeah youtube is anti anything with a DOT COM on it.

  • What kind of TRX china is that?

  • waited 2 years for you to come to boise and i loved every second of it

  • Travis' solo in Whales is AMAZING! He's such a good player! Great dynamics and phrasing. Vibrado and slides are flawless.

  • more cymbals!!

  • i dig the jazz part on whales

  • You've probably been asked a million times, but what brand of bass does Jordan play?

  • @gunshow86de Peavey Cirrus

  • guys, gotta say i'm really digging this album, the mellow parts are more mellow, the heavy parts are more head-bangable, and those TONES! the guitars, bass, drums, it all sounds great man!

I was disappointed and confused as to why you didn't play the impromptu house show with Periphery last night though.

  • thats a really nice looking guitar and sounds good too. what guitar is that?

  • oh my god. I just bought the new album and it just straight up drop kicked my extremely high expectations. IT IS SOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD. StS melted my BRAIN!!!!!

  • @meatloafgodxer you have no idea what i went through.... basically my body was imploded to the xth dimension. my body was being reconstructed and destroyed simultaneously while listening to this album. intimidated to listen to this album while baked now. basically, the new album is awesome

  • cant wait for the new album, gallows is incredible, when is UK release?

  • @Blackened1993 i think soon now. sorry I have been a bit behind on comments on here. I think its already out via Itunes UK though. You can always order through our online store and get it shipped out now. scalethesummitstore • com

  • @scalethesummit don't worry dude i itunesed it day it came out, great stuff btw 'the levitated' is incredible =]

  • Hey guys, really can't wait for the album to be released!

i saw you play Collasal in Pasadena last year and i just wanna let you know, that shit has been on my mind every single day since then.

I'm pretty damn sure my head is gonna explode when i hear it again,.

  • sounds amazing! looking forward to picking this up on the 1st. Also I really like how you guys communicate with the fans a lot, you guys are truly awesome. keep it up!

  • So are both you and Travis using the same guitar to record the whole record?

  • @lewissndrs no, it just happened to be the only times that were filmed we were playing that guitar. it was used for the majority of it though, it sounded, played and just felt the best so we just went with it.

  • Looks great guys can't wait for the album! Hope you're all doin well-

  • This is amazing, i saw you guys with protest the hero, and then again with devin townsend. And it just so happens that all of you guys have new albums coming out this march. Best. Spring. EVER!

  • What strings do you guys use ? Gauge ?

  • @nikooxmaster Ernie Ball - 10 -56 7 String packs.-Chris

  • So what is you're opinion on the Axe Fx?

  • @theallmightyham its my live rig now, so I of course love it.

  • @scalethesummit That's what i thought hahahaha. My friend let me try his axe fx rig and I've had Axe Fx GAS for months............

  • @theallmightyham yeah, well any guitar player its an amazing piece of equipment, you can literally come up with any kind of sound you can think of with this unit.

  • @scalethesummit Hi, can you please tell me who do you play with it livE? SS amp, Valve poweram? or FF cabs? thanks!! You have enough volume and power sound with it live?

  • im guessing u guys used that axe fx in the background?

  • @breaker9 yes, but not for everything. mainly just out of the ordinary effects. its our live rig now, so after recording we went back and wrote patches to match every sound on the record, time consuming! -chris

  • @scalethesummit i see so what heads did u guys use? and yes that must be ridiculously time consuming but well worth the effort

  • I still think "Mark" looks like Adam Jones.

  • I listened to the "Whales" track on MetalSucks, and it just......I just....OHMYGOD. It kicks soooo much ass! THANK YOU, SCALE THE SUMMIT!

  • @hiddenoath sweet dude, thanks a lot! very glad to hear you loved it! -chris

  • Chris, are you gonna grow your hair back out for the tour.

  • @seamusmceagan probably not, it started to get annoying being in my face all the time. ha.

  • @scalethesummit Righteous brother, see you guys in new orleans, if you guys need any "provisions" or anything message me, oh and not to be a total noob but you should check out out my vids of my band Arguing Semantics, you guys pretty much inspired the project.

  • @seamusmceagan cool dude, thanks! will do

  • Pleeeeeease come to San Francisco!!!! Love the new stuff. Such a good year for prog

  • @Dtamano I'm sure we'll make it through on a tour this year. Keep an eye out. -Chris

  • "Whales" is absolutely outstanding. Although Beardfish is one of my favorite bands, I'm overjoyed that they dropped off Prog Nation or else I probably wouldn't have heard STS for a long time later. If anyone has yet to see STS live and is debating going, definitely do it -- although Dream Theater and Zappa are among my favorite musical acts, STS blew them out of the water at Prog Nation.

  • @ckyisyourfuture thanks so much that! glad to hear you really enjoyed our set on that tour. appreciate all the support! -chris

  • just released "Whales" as the world premiere today! Check it out on metalsucks • NET Hope you guys dig it! -Chris

  • you guys are one of the few bands that I actually go and buy their stuff rather than torrent it (I can count the number of bands I support on one hand nowadays).

  • @ChiZ712 hey man, really appreciate that. glad to hear it! -chris

  • That drum line at 1:10 is fucking amazing

  • in a way i don't want to hear this album because it's probably gonna make me want to suck all of your dicks even more....which isn't something i'm looking forward too...

  • i have a feeling "Whales" is going to be "The Great Plains" of this album.

  • @TreyMetalGuitarist agreed, whales is gonna sound shweet, i can already tell

  • All of the songs sound incredible, but "Whales" sounds life-changing. Can't wait for this album!

  • It's impossible not to imagine whales swimming in the ocean while listening to the excerpts from "Whales" at 1:20. Aptly titled, sirs.

  • Comment removed

  • The jazzy part at :32 sounds awesome. I loved the jazz incorporated in The Great Plains.

  • @chucktheduck64 thanks man! yeah there is a lot of that on this record.

  • @scalethesummit That's great to hear!

  • How many classes did you guys take?

  • @ILoveYourHat69 classes? I have no idea. it was years of college though. something like 12 classes a semester I guess.

  • So pumped for this album!

  • @jesseshred thanks for your honesty haha. glad you are excited for this record.

  • @scalethesummit Can I just say The Collective is musical genius. Classic album.

  • That second bass line shown is sick.

  • is mark lewis no longer at audiohammer? either way its top notch work.

  • @brettvette He is, that is Audio Hammer.

  • This sounds like it is shaping up to be even better than Carving Desert Canyons. I can't wait.

  • Cannot wait for the new album! You guys rock!

  • soooo....do you guys use pedals? and please pleaaaase come close to hampton, va this year!! the only decent show is the blues festival :| we need scale the summit!!

  • @hiddenoath very few, but only in the studio. we are using Fractal's live now, so they pretty eliminate the need for pedals. -Chris
