  • I tried this, but the video blends in with the background is hard to see. Any ideas on how to fix this? The green screen is brand new, I have imovie 11, shooting students doing book reviews; they have no green clothing on. Thanks!

  • what happens if when u drag ur footage over the back round but no green screen option come up????

  • @EROCK055 To turn on Advanced Tools, click iMovie>Preferences from the iMovie menu at the top of the screen. Click the General tab, then select the checkbox next to Show Advanced Tools. You will notice that several new buttons appear on your iMovie toolbar after you activate Advanced Tools.

  • @livesuperman u know what i figurd that out like right after i asked the question, but thanks anyway! good advice

  • Do you have to have a specific software for this

  • @TrickyOne3, it doesn't have to be green. It can be green or blue. But it has to be one of those colors

  • i dont have that option but i do have imovie 09

  • @Wnavidoster make sure you have advanced options on.

  • can you do this with imovie 11?

  • @0725drsarah yes you can

  • Q_Q Why does Windows Movie Maker suck so bad :'l

  • Thanks its so simple i taught it was harder than that.

  • Youre wrong i just tried it. you must have a different version

  • can u do this on ipod?

  • @jjmatuz99 Has to be green.

  • @jjmatuz99 It can be white, thats why they call it a green screen

  • @jjmatuz99 has to be green

  • @jjmatuz99 yes it will. it cant be a wall though,as they usually has spots and stains on them.

  • @Purbinder03 I dont like the sound of your house. ;-)

  • I'm trying to green screen for a project I have to do, I bought a 20$ green screen off a website, but when I drag it in iMovie the green screen option doesn't come up, is this because its too dark?

  • like if you are a macbook and you're from the future.

  • That is so cool! I completely forgot that feature was in there. i wish I had remembered when had put together a video I made this summer. Thx for sharing. For once a YouTube recommendation has not annoyed the existence of being but actually helped. ha ha-once-....still annoying. ha ha But you're how-to rocks!

  • @j2cool2 You are very welcome, happy to help.

  • how much for the coat, how much for the coat, well my green screening attempts, hmmm i was working with Iphoto only and draggging clips in from desk, I guess the real way is with Imovie... hmmm. I just wanted the clip in imovie back to iphoto... now you want me to learn the right way to do it... hmmm yeah green mac user figuring this bitch on his own, good vid, its so easy if you were here tho, I know, best you can thanks

  • It doesn't give me the options to do that. Please help?

  • thank you ^_^

  • This iz Great !! thanks for the vidz...

  • Can blue screens work too??

  • @dreamkidproductions I know I'm not the person u r asking so I hope you don't mind my answering since I'm here n just watch the vid 2. It should work. The only difference is the screen color (green or blue) has to be distinctive enough and high enough in contrast from the subject matter to be separated successfully. If not, it will not work. Green works best because of its high contrasting color. Blue has been known 2 work 2 provided it's the right the shade of blue.

  • Is this made in IMOVIE 2008???? is this an advance version of IMOVIE???????? let me know!!!

  • great

  • I CANT HEAR YOU!!!!

  • @neondusk60 AYE AYE CAPTAIN!!!!

  • Does this work in IMovie 08 please reply

  • ur computer is slow what do you have

  • When i drop it, it only says insert, cancel, audio only, and replace, how can i fix this?

  • @XxSwirlyGoodnessxX you have to enable the advanced option. To do that, you just open preference and enable "show advanced Tool's"

    Hope it helped

  • @sleepy9cat

Awww Thanks It Did Help <3!

  • Does the green of the green screen hav to be a certain color?

  • @WinnieLautnerRAWR if you choose the green screen option yes, but there is a blue screen option that works with a blue background also. you can also use a bright color like pink or yellow to but for best results use green.

  • @WinnieLautnerRAWR no any color of green will work

  • @999mads It's Mac only ;)

  • Help please! I have a homemade Green screen but i dont have a Mac computer. Are there programs for Windows? I All ready have tryed Sony Vegas Pro 10

  • that was a great tutorial, i wasn't sure if i could use green screen with imovie. thanks

  • Do you need final cut to do this ??

  • @Louispook

This is iMovie, not FInal Cut. He is doing all this in the program iMovie...hence the title.

  • thanks man you were heaps of help :]

  • Everytime I do it, my head is al fuzzy and I was wondering did I do it wrong or is it in the settings? If you could answer that’ll be great!

  • @KrazyPuffball21 what you have to do is go to prefrences and click addvanced prefrences. that should do it

  • where did you get the green screen?

  • @KrazyPuffball21

u could use a simple green blacket, large paper, or even a green wall

  • @johnthehoser

    You're welcome. :)

  • @johnthehoser

If I'm not mistaken, you click on the "iMovie" tab, then click preferences and select "show advanced tools"

Or hit command comma (,) to get it right away.

  • you can add a cross fade transition to the background BUT how can you do a cross fade on the green screen layer (on the movie that you dragged from the event library ) ???

because i want to do cross fade on BOTH background AND greens screen movie, because when i start with a cross fade at the beginning of the movie i have a nice fade in of the background but then suddenly I have a HARD pop up (cut in) of the green screen layer... anyone knows a workaround or solutions ?

    thx a lot guys !

  • does the green part of the greenscreen have to be green? or could you use a plain wall in your house thats the color yellow, or red for example...

  • @LancellotProductions Yes, the background needs to be green or blue.

  • @jscottevest were did you get the imovie, did you buy it from itunes or somewere else ?

  • @LuckyGameing The iMovie comes whit a Mac, for free.

  • @AcaRox1234567 ya i shortly figured that out after i searcherd for it on google, is there another program like it for windows ?

  • @LuckyGameing Yes, Sony Vegas

  • I thought this was about, how to place the green screen affect into a movie, but this seems to be, how to take green screen type footage and add something cool in the background.

  • What about adding transitions between two green screened clips? Whenever I do this, it will only show the background during the transition.

  • Thank you sooo much. I had no idea how to do this. I'm faving this cuz I loved it so much.

  • can you do it with a blue sheet?

  • @ziadsoliman1 Maybe!

  • my green screen comes out all pixelated and ugly, did u us an hd cam

  • @MRCOBUSCUS at first mine was like that to. But all you have to do is to have a pretty straight (not wrinkly) green screen and good lighting. If the lighting's not good the quality is not good. And u dont want to have a shadow cause then it looks wierd. And u dont have to have a very good camera. I have a MacBook with isight camera and it works very good.

  • Very cool video!

  • @ItsMrBigfence how did you fix it?

  • how come it turns out black and white (inverted) when I put it in. SOMEONE HELP D;

  • Cool thanks!

  • Instead of green screen, will it let do another colour such as red screen or blue screen, or in my case, white screen.

  • thank you very much
