It's actually a contrabass domra. There is a bass domra in the back row behind the contrabass domrist's head. I think the contrabass domra is an old instrument, because the bridge is at an angle, which means that the sounding lengths of the strings are not the same. He should really go to a luthier and get a stepped bridge made.
Well-spotted, the angle of the bridge, but couldn't it be that this angle gives the correct intonation? I habve mandolins (and, in fact, a domra) where the bridge makes a slight angle to get 'octave correctness' .
We are saying the same thing about octave correctness, only in different words. I have had to angle the bridge on one of my instruments, but it did not correct the problem properly, so I had a stepped bridge made for it. End of problem.
