Cool footage. But you can't tell the true size and weight of a coyote remotely, so please don't state they are "WOLF SIZED". They look like regular Eastern yotes- big, but still coyotes.

R. Doe's statement sounds impossible. No genuine coyote weighs 115 lb. Was the DNA tested? A large western wolf weighs 115. An Eastern Timber Wolf isn't nearly that heavy. A huge Eastern Coyote weighs half that.

I'll write to that site & ask them to double check the quote from Mr. Doe. I hate exaggeration.

Coyotes rarely take down healthy deer. Only thing they do to deer are kill the fawns they catch.

The coyotes here in the Northeast (I live in CT) are definitely a lot bigger than the Western ones (I lived in AZ & CA). The DEP here even states that they did interbreed w/ the wolf before they went extinct however long ago. Coyotes here also hunt in the same style & large packs as wolves(know 1st hand as almost being on the menu myself) & they are almost as big as my lg Standard Poodle whom is approx 30" @ the shoulder & weighs in at 70+ lbs. They also do look bigger/ bushy w/ a winter coat

By the way I also have size referenced pictures of 40-54 lb coyotes (the actual record 54 lbs). You would think they were all heavier by appearance. The average large male coyote is half the size and weight of my husky, who likes to hunt coyotes.

I found the correction to that article. It was shot in PA near the NY border, it was a pet wolfdog that weighed 102-105 lbs. The guy took it to a taxidermist who found it to be a neutered male. I have pictures of it. It doesnt look anything like a coyote.

It was confirmed that the largest coyote on record was a male from the Adirondaks that weighed 42 lbs. They NEVER come close to the massive size of a wolf, in fact the largest coyotes in the east, otherwise are 31-35 lbs. I have the article where the 115 lb wolfdog was shot, later confirmed by genetic testing.

The largest eastern coyote is a rare male at 30-40 lbs, the average size of an adult male gray wolf is 100-136 lbs. No such animal as a "wolf-sized coyote". The western coyote averages 15-25 lbs, in fact a large western coyote is about 27 lbs.

Name one report from anyone. Theres no such thing, government reports say 15-20 lbs for westerns, 25-30 lbs for easterns, with abnormally large males at 40 lbs. 100 lbs would be a an average pack of 5 or more western coyotes, 4 easterns.

D.E.C. game commission officer Robert Doe confirmed that this was indeed a new New York state record coyote. Its official weight was 115 pounds, it is a very large male and was shot this (2005-6 in February '06)) regular deer season just out side the town of Hilton.

I read the article recently about this, I saw the animal that was shot, it was a wolfdog according to genetic testing confirmed later, not a coyote. Originally that guy said that he THOUGHT it was a coyote or coydog. The address was not in that section either.

We have 2 kinds of coyotes here. One kind is normal sized. Another type is huge. The only adult killed was 50 lbs and a juvenile was 35 lbs. I found a dead one once that looked like a huge wolf and other people have seen huge coyotes. Perhaps our large ones are some kind of hybrid.
