J is one of the few 'flashy' guitarists that I really like. A lot of the Heavy Metal guitarists are really talented but sometimes it just feels like they're playing fast for the sake of it. But J's solos are just so damn soulful. Also Lou is such an underrated bassist.
thanks a lot !! great song & great performance here (you won't believe it, but I discovered only yesterday this song from their early career, due to the reedition of first record) and thanks to youtube as well...
@g0ldbuG hahah that's a lot of set time. It's a bit like Ray and Robby from The Doors. Mostly in reunions and stuff, Ray has to shout Robby's name cause he gets so lost in his own solos. And Ray is the same except I haven't seen Robby call him out yet.
Sometimes it looks like they're fighting each other musically, in a childish way...
@samuelmichaud it also depends on what level of improvisation we're talking about. do the musicians just show up and play or are they improvising in a structured, pre-agreed-on format like how the Doors borrowed some of the improvisatory practice of the jazz musicians...or just be like Coltrane and wail on "My Favorite Things" for an hour and a half w/o bothering to sing at all.
if dino is filming a DvD or a big concert they may practice or prepare their improvisation.
@dontmesafrusciante Dinosaur Jr. isn't a band I can listen to for a realy really long time. I have little sporadic bits where I get into them for about a week or two and then maybe a month later I'll pick them back up. But when I do listen to them I REALLY listen to them. Great band and this song is amazing. Very chill-worthy Something about that chorus...great chord changes and melody.
@OneInchMan95 Oh yeah. I'll got hrough phases, and listen to different types of music for the rest of my life but I'll always be a fan. I'll always put them on every now and then, and probably alot more than that. Jut too good to stay away too long.

Jay's solos are a bit like opera. So stupidly long, but... still... good...
samuelmichaud 10 months ago
@samuelmichaud when you don't feel like singing or aren't a good singer just play longer...like Jimi did. you gotta fill in the set time somehow.

@g0ldbuG Yeah for sure. The only way to know is to have them telling us what is and what is not. I know it's all possible really, so who knows.
