I just love these old gals. With all of their funny little idiosyncracies, these were VOICES and PERSONALITIES. They had something to say and to give to us. I get so sick of the immitation-singers of today. These were voices which soared over the orchestra and chorus and filled the MET to the last corner o the standing room gallery.
Cernei is much closer to her timbre in this page performing Azucena, listen that w/ a good headphone and you could get an idea how she sounded alive on stage, I heard she as Amneris alive, I can not describe just remember
