  • Please can you make toturial.. not sayin with comments - If you could play this 1 much slower with focus on left hand (couldn find any instructional video on YT - you can be the first one:)).... think lots of ppl will be gratefull.

  • I would look foward to that! And, just for curiosity, you keep saying there's an old recording made by barrios himself, would you mind passing me de link? And from whom your revision of the score is? Because I have a quite strange jesus benitez's one and I think yours is the best I've heard. Grettings mate, keep playing

  • @preludionostalgico Yes sure - check out my favourites on my channel. It's the top one, I've just added it. That's the same recording as on the Barrios Legacy CD I have. It's a 3 CD set!

The transcription is my own, there wasn't a really accurate one out there that I could find so I studied that recording very closely, although I have improved it a bit since I recorded this.

I have it in a GuitarPro file somewhere if you'd like me to send it drop me a message and I'll email it. Cheers, Owen

  • hey there, I'm studying this mov. of La Catedral as well, and yes, it's difficult and all, and you're a good player, but you should slow down the tempo and actually listen to what's going in there, I mean, that tempo it's OK but, and this is my humble opinion just as a constructive critique, you aren't listening to yourself, or at least that's te impression I got when i listened to you. I recommend you to play it very slow and hear the melody and the bass. Although you're good, keep playing!

  • @preludionostalgico Actually, the piece is meant to be faster - Barrios played it at ridiculous speed. Obviously, I am no Barrios... But I appreciate what you're saying, this sounds really sloppy to me now. I recorded this much too soon after first learning it and didn't really have it all flowing properly. I may do another attempt soon

  • Very-very great job! :) This is _the_ piece I will never be able to play on the guitar... :)

  • @l3v3e Thanks very much! I didn't think I'd be able to do it and then I heard the recording of Barrios himself playing it and it suddenly made sense. Those old recordings are jems. Most written versions out there are pretty different to how he played it. Anyone wanting to learn the piece should listen closely to those early recordings. That goes for all of his music, I have yet to discover an accurate transcription...

    o

  • Thats great. I love nylon string guitars

  • .....Bravissimo 5*****

  • Physician Bortitubeh, why don't you heal yourself, first, bro'....? Your words pop up everywhere, - you'd better be really good, when you finally lay down a couple of vieos, otherwise you might appear to be all hat and no steer..., - cowboy...

  • as I said in "las abejas" you should work in your technique I recomend the villa lobos studies the first one above all, it will help you to improve the sound, the problem is that you have estudied this with those mistakes, but I suggest to begin before its too late

  • no i haven't. i'll look for it ;)

    thanks for the tip

  • nice playing :p

i'm a 2nd year student of classical guitar and my teacher told me to study this section and i'm just about to die.. it's really hard for me, i can play it but not as fast as you do

    *.* i admire you

  • thanks. have you listened to Barrios' original recording of this? there's an audio version on youtube. the speed he's going at the end is frightening! i highly recommend studying that 1928 recording when learning it. no one plays it quite the same. i'm still working on the other section...

  • Wow, amazing!

  • thank you so much. i appreciate it.

  • wow!

    great playing.

  • Thanks for your comment!

I was trying to play this again yesterday, and couldn't get it anywhere near this pace!

Just shows you've got to keep at it... I should learn the other sections, and try to record the whole thing.

    Something to work towards.

  • i know what you mean, sometimes i try to play things i used to play and i can´t !

it would be great to hear you play the 3 sections.

  • how! you're crazy!

  • precisa de mais tecnica no dedilhado mais tocou bem ^^

    gostei

  • Hot like FIRE ;-)

  • You are too kind.

I would have said more like a Breville sandwich toaster, but maybe your thermometers more accurate than mine.

    Peace, brother

  • love the deep tone on this
