  • I'll thank you now. You can welcome me later.

  • tyhe most epic hippie EVER!

  • Holy shit......I knew he was good......but not THAT good! Fuck.

  • theres a backing track. or else theres a hidden guitarist and singers. no wonder he's chillin'

  • the drums are on fire!

  • studio blah

  • Uli has honey badger's blood

  • Nice

  • i like to think mr. roth has reached enlightenment. but im sure he enjoys a good joint too.

  • Fuck you annoy me with your description and annotations.

  • my foot won't stop stomping

  • One of the great Scorpions songs that came before Blackout or Love at First Sting. This is HEAVY!

  • You know what would make this better?

    Sound.

  • ... I gotta' say.... The scratchy classic beta VHS cassette tape quality KICKS ASS!!!!!

  • uli jon roth vs eddie van halen would have to be one of the greatest guitar duels ever

  • The best old school metal song ever! \m/

  • Comment removed

  • Altered state of consciousness? He is probably just baked lol

  • WOW!

  • "Does anybody remember tracking?"

  • awesome song XD

  • herman rarebell is the worst drummer i know

  • Uli is players player. I am a drummer and even I know a guitar god when I hear one.

  • Thats right motherfucker! Roth is still a bad ass!

  • he looks relaxed because hes not really playing anything, its not live

  • @altjff15 Totally wrong on that one. I've seen him play this song live a few times and he looks just the same, totally relaxed, like he doesn't give a fuck. Badass player.

  • Uli the BEST!!!!!!!

  • How did this comment get up here?

  • in witch dark place of your pavement did you find this one???

  • \m/ Metallic funk \m/

  • lol, his picking hand is so relaxed even on the fast parts

  • you've put the audio:) nice anyway:)

  • Masterful.

  • Was this taken from Germany's Beat Club?

  • Surely you've put some kind of effect or 'spell' on this video. It shudders and shudders thru out. I've never seen any video wobble like that w/out the music getting all jerky too.

The first receiver /(well good receiver) I had had a mono/stereo button... the music being all in the left side reminded me that....

  • My Favorite Guitar Solo of all Time.

  • He's so chill on guitar when he played the solo.

  • Uli viene a carretear al sur de Chile todos los años...a Puerto Montt!!! el q sabe sabe...

  • @thomasvs79 es enserio??? yo igual soy de puerto montt, un gusto

  • Holy shit! Thanks for uploading this...Uli makes a piece of wood and 6 strings sound so exquisite, it's orgasmic :)

Can't understand why he's been so unexposed and underrated....

  • yeah i'm 15 years and i love rock

  • @MrAguila53 I love rock too! And I was 15 9 months ago too! YOU WANNA' GO!!?

  • I was so impressed when I herd Uli Roth play this guitar solo! This is not what you would normally here in the 70's. Way ahead of his time.

  • @VLombardi01

Agree Uli was definitely ahead of his time

  • uli is THE definition of coolness...

  • Holy shit, the Scorps used to to BE METAL?? This is great!! Klaus is way out in the top of his range.

This is like some Blackmore/Dio stuff. Rainbow, Rising Force. No way would this "Gates of Babylon" type thing have sold as many records.

But if Yngwie wrote songs this well...

  • Klaus should go on dancing with the stars!! ;-D...He's got some killer moves!!!...And Uli is well....just as Uli can be.....

  • lmfao @ how Uli jams these gorgeously rich and awesome runs like it's NOTHING!. Dude is immense.

  • haha love the commentary

  • There's something odd about the sound in this video - could it be that it only plays the Left channel?

Anyway, the funny thing is that I feel that this makes the song better! the sound is "warmer", and maybe it tones down the lead guitar just a bit, thus making things a little less cumbersome. Sounds great.

  • @bavgil It's a mono recording.

  • uli was great in scorpions, but it was a different band with him. you could always tell, he was on his own mission, great innovator

  • could so ride a dragon right now.

  • Kirk Hammett played the intro to this in Ottawa, Canada on November 3rd 2010, while adding his own touch to it.

  • @johnnyboy221094 Holy shit! How did you travel into the future!?

  • @MrShredtilldead I am kirks father

  • @johnnyboy221094 That doesn't make any sense...

  • @MrShredtilldead no shit

  • thats like the sweetest guitar solo

  • 0:34- that was funny

  • Art is Art, no like circus man like Malmsteen. Long Live Rock, death to reggeton!!!

  • srsly what is this? the studio recording synced to a video? it's amazing, but err... it certainly wasn't live!

  • Taken by Force is their masterpiece, anything after that was a steady decline. They became too commercial for my liking and the atypical arena rock band. This was when they were raw, untamed, fresh, dynamic, hungry.

  • this song is the reason no other guitar player could touch uil roth back then, the guitar work in this song was way ahead of its time, and stands up well even today.................

  • Who's the douche bag that edited the comment's on the video. Themusicofblah. What a pussy!

  • awsome |

  • I can't find the tracking on my computer......

  • this song makes my brain warm

  • the video is awesome but the comments are so cool too hahahahaha...get job man thanks for sharing!

  • This solo just blows my mind.

  • Ulrich Roth. Old Scorpions. Period.

  • fuck yeah

  • Dude this is treasure

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome - dead right about his altered-state. Totally in the zone. Saw a vid from 2006 and he was still awesome playing this.

  • Back in the day when 21 frets was enough for Uli Jon Roth

  • WOW hadnt hear this in awhile. Still the most amazing guitar work Ive ever heard and there is a lot of greats out there. WOW

  • this is really good but i prefer testaments version because its my genre but they wouldnt have done it if they didnt create it so for that i am grateful :D

  • can a band really have such luck micheal and uli?

  • Comment removed

  • Uli looks like he's sleep-playing that would be so awsome If he could do that tak about talent!

  • my band practices in the same rehearsal space Uli's solo band used to rehearse! he signed the wall, but i feel bad because right next to his signature is a cum stain and its my cum

  • @EternalNick93 Ha ha ha,Can you make a stain for me as well?!! Ha ha ha

  • Comment removed

  • @DeMachman i dont think there would be enough room i cum on it everyday

  • @EternalNick93 I think you have a very original way of warming up before guitar practice and you get "smoother"strings as well!

  • Kirk Hammett was right he is the best!

  • The camera got blinded multiple times by his pure awesomeness

  • not many people realize that he wrote this when he was around 14-16 years young. you dont even hear this in these days. imagine hearing this in 1959. this was before the whammy! Uli completely changed the way of the guitar. great guitarist. may he live for many years to come

  • You got your facts wrong dude. This song was on the album Taken By Force. Released in 1977. And Uli was in his mid 20's by then. Also, the whammy had been around for years prior to this. The bass player Francis was an engineer as well and made that big bastard whammy for him. A better picture of it is on the front cover of the album In Trance.

  • The video quality rocks my box.

  • @CleverDjembe Lol made me laugh.

  • @CleverDjembe lol, this song rockd my box too!! haha

  • Dance Klause Dance !!!

  • temazo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simply awesome.

  • gawd this seems so old the quality is not really good

  • anyone know what pickups he used?

  • Apparently, stock fender PU's... He did do the scalloped fingerboard thing...and did you check out the 1/4" tremelo?

  • @kmacrigs

I didn't see that no. Stock Fenders? How is he getting such a crystal tone?

  • Apparently, He was, at the time, a fan of HiWatt 100's...A friend of mine saw them live, and he and Francis B. used them while Rudy used Marshall (s)

  • Also, since he was a huge fan of Jimi...he might of gone as far as "flipping" his strat pickups up side down? reversing them? back then, in the 70's, there were not really alot of choices for swapping pick ups arround. But I think most of the tone is simply, in his hands!

  • Is that dio singin??

  • ULI RULED THE BAND !

  • uploader of this video doesnt understand that people are not actually playing in music videos

  • Flectz doesn't realize that in most Music Videos of guitar solos, the solos have to be spot on accurate or else they won't match up with the song, and look like bad editing. Nice Try though.

P.S. One of the related videos shows Uli in 2006 playing it live just as cooly and calmly as here.

  • @GeorgeWashington1776

are you dumb? band members are acting in music videos. theyre not playing at all. theres music playing in the background for them to act like they're playing the part the song is on. you must be autistic.

  • The best song preformed by Scorpions, no doubt! :D

  • board. wetsuit, 12' leash, gloves, 7m booties, gath helmet. Uli Jon Roth Scorps song, ..... got it! : )

  • Outstanding guitar work. One of the best Hard rock songs of all time. Phenomenonal!

  • Scorpions have certainly had some great banjo players with Uli and Mad Michael Schenker

  • Fuckin A"People always talk about the obvious 5 guitarists and yet Scorpions started in 65' and around 68 started cutting a first album and were overlooked in the blues based U.S. too long if you asked me because Uli Roth is so freakin awesome nobody incorporated into rock music what was at that time and not for quite awhile after either.

  • And who says the Germans have no sense of humour!

  • 0:24 Thats right mother fuckers!!!

  • Yngwie always mentioned how Uli was an inspiration and this song shows how much Yngwie was influenced in some of his soloing by Uli.

  • The fact that Widdly Widdly Malmsteen mentions Uli as an influence is no great compliment he also cites Ritchie Blackmore as an influence as well but in all honesty i dont think Widdly should be mentioned in the same breath as either Roth or Blackmore!! Yngwies playing is technically brilliant but completely tasteless IMHO

  • Your opinion, exactly, but Yngwie didn't just became famous for his technical solos. Listen to his solos in Alcatraz (the album) or his first solo debut, maybe it will change your opinion a little.

Like Satirani, John MacLaughlin, Vai, major music universities, many musicians and millions of people feel that you're wrong in your opinion, but to each his own. But I do recognize that after the years he hasn't change and has become repetitive and predictable, which is a shame.

  • I have heard the albums you mention Testacojones and they leave me cold Yngwie for me took his stage persona from Blackmore even down to the same clothes and guitar and also took his neo classical influences from Blackers and Roth but sadly he unfortunately has no taste whatsoever in his playing style Malmsteen,Vai and Satch really need speedometers on stage so they can challenge each other to notes per second competitions guitar playing for them is almost like a sport rather than an art!

  • It's all good, we all have like and dislikes. I play guitar either way because to me speed was natural, but if there's no point or melody I wont play it. I'll move own because I don't want to hijack this thread anymore than I already have.

  • @lightintheblack WhO cAres!

  • WhO cAres! about what jlp4231996????

  • @lightintheblack I have to agree with you. I think Malmsteen is boring. He has an insane ability and plays masterfully. But his music has no surprises anymore.

  • its not completely tasteless. listen to his first solo album, you'll find a couple of tracks there that show, emotion and soul. other than that, listen to his slower songs, he has bunch of them, a lot of emotion there too.

  • This is easily the best guitar riff ever.

  • its great to see ulrich or uli jon.. I always wondered what happened to him. i lost contact when he split with scorpions.. i always loved his sound..

  • thanking you now! F-ing unbelieveable! I love it!

  • so fuckin bad ass :]

  • Uli.....god of the guitar gods

  • Hell fuckin yeah!

  • yngwie re did this song , its scary how great he did it, i like klaus vocals.

  • I like Ying Ying, also. But.... NOBODY, BUT NOBODY RULES LIKE ULRICH ROTH .... 'cept , of course.. JIMI. period.. Of course, Klaus f*cking rocks.

  • Agreed.

  • Their 70s albums were even better than their 80s albums. Taken By Force and Fly To The Rainbow for example

  • fucking awesome intro and riff simply perfect :)

  • Yeah, the older stuff is my favorite stuff from the Scorps............I love it

  • This is a part of scorpions I didn't knew. Rock you like what? Pfft...

  • Hurricane.

  • Not good enough. Uli is a whole Meteorite collision compared to the later Scorpions.

  • Their earlier work was far more creative and innovative than their later music which while more successful was far more commercial, cheesy and the only songs memorable songs they did from 1980 and on were their hit singles.

  • Seems like Liberty and Success are two things that are hard to handle. Even more when your success doesn't depends on you. I follow this thought with the idea that you give your best when you're struggling versus when you're already and the peak and so long and so forth. Same thing happened to GNR, after Izzy left.

  • Yeah, Uli WAS the Scorpions.

  • I love Uli's face as he plays the solo.

  • oh yeahh.... really without any frustation!!!!... magic uli!!!

  • NICE!!

  • thanks a lot for posting this! man uli is so cool. of course 5/5

  • I never heard Uli Roth play on Scorpions record- very impressive!!

  • classic!

can't help but giggle at the disco beat lol :)

  • Very cool song. Was interested in hearing it when someone mentioned Kirk was playing the riff during a guitar noodle after "Suicide & Redemption" from Copenhagen.

  • this is my personal favorite with scorpions! 5* ftw! :D

  • I don't know why, but this song sounds piratey

  • arrrrrrr

  • Like a big ship of death metal robot pirates who shoot lazer beams out of their eyes! FUCK YEA!!!

  • super strat?

  • Is that Rudy Lenners on the drums?? thanks for posting!

  • nope herman rarebell

  • thanks

  • picture as you listen: dropping into a huge wave

  • this dynamite and blackout the best songs they have. this for uli's technique, purity, baroque elements and the other for speed and heaviness.

  • I am going to see him tonite at Paladinos in Reseda. Can't wait!!!

  • Uli's greatest riff. This song stays in my head all day whenever I listen to it.

  • Hell yeah.

  • Awesome Uli and Scorps!! peace bradda!

  • Great song with an excellent riff, and very sexy too.

  • Amazing stuff. Scorpions had a mystical sound with Roth, not mainstream like later. I remember the first time I heard "Polar Nights"--it was practically a mind-altering experience, almost supernatural. Nothing like it. Ulrich Roth may be "bad" and "f'n cool" and he may "rule" and all of that, but really, I think he's a mystic--I know this sounds pretentious, I don't know how else to put it.

  • A year later in 1978 they released the hellish live album "Tokyo Tapes". This bad was that good and even better live.

That album will stand the test of time for 70's metal.

  • im sorry, but the annotations on the beginning with uli jon roth just makes him seem like an arrogant fucker in this vid

  • Metal

  • I was lucky to see Uli.he is such cool person and so humble and bigtime under rated! he is for sure the white Jimmy hendrix

  • god i wish i wrote this song/solo

    its just TOO fucking good

  • A lalalalalala aaaaaaaa PUR CLASSE !!!!!!! Frissons de partout !!!!!!

  • Top of the food chain ! Doesn't get better.!

  • I could never get to see Uli,he was with a girl,perhaps Jimi's ex?

  • Nice video but it's the equivalent to listening to AM radio at night. I was getting vertigo!!

  • thats where kirk hammett got that, hes playing his version of this for a live solo nowdays

  • He's trying.
