seagate is the worst HDD ever! I have Seagate Barracuda 160GB SATA. It got fried few days ago, and I used it only for three years. WTF is three years for a hard drive.?!? Even a fucking CD can last longer. I have 10 years old 40GB Maxtor HDD that works just fine on Pentium III. Don't buy this shit!
I have a Dell Dimension E510, and it has a Seagate Barracuda 80 Gb, 7200 rpm hard drive. Can I replace it with a Barracuda 1.5Gb HD? I have already ordered one of those USB to SATA, IDA cables.
@BEERxxPiRATE All hdd makers do that its not just seagate. Both of my Western Digital Hard drives are also like that. My 320 gb has 298 gb of usable space and my 500 gb has 465 gb of usable space. In most test both WD and Seagate Hard drives are about the same in performance.
thaanks lots for that bit of info mate i have a 500 gb and could not get my head round why it not working as it works in in a sky box fine same problem just could not even see it but will get one of those addaptors as we speak thanks again
I have the OEM 500GB version firmware DE12. its not recognized by the bios but the disk spins, the firmware is reported to have a defect but I can't update it so are you absolutely sure the drive will be recognized with the usb to sata adapter?
Sata drives do not have master and slave jumpers. They do have jumpers to make the drive compatible with older systems by limiting the drive to 1.5gb/sec operation rather than the standard 3gb/sec.
I don't have an old system (about 1-1.5 year old), I have 2 hard disks WD (1TB + 360GB) on SATA. A friend of mine camed to me check a HDD from his laptop which is a Seagate 2.5'', 120 GB, 5400 rpm and there is no jumper. Even the BIOS didn't see the HDD. I worked with several HDD, but always WD (older and newer) and never ever had this problem.
Thank you for your information. I don't have a 1.5tb drive, but the information about the usb2.0 to IDE adapter is very interesting. I didn't kown the existence of this adapter.

@BEERxxPiRATE All hard drives do that. It's due to the different definition of gigabyte by hard drives VS windows.
You have the same amount of storage, it's just defined differently.

I have a problem with my 1.5 TB Seagate HDD. It doesn't show that it is 1.5 Tb... Only 465 GB.... Does anyone know how to fix this?
I am running Windows XP Pro on a Quad Core system. SATA II of course.
