The reason One Piece is so well-formed is because Oda-sensei planned out everything already from the beginning. He also said that he will still use the ending that he had plotted from the beginning. Well, there's that awesomeness of his plotting but anyways, the story is now at 2/3. So we'll probably have to follow the story for a 5-10 years for it to complete. Anyways, Oda clearly mentioned that he plotted the story with a few restriction.

Lastly Shanks using Haki in the first chapter to save Luffy from that big fish thing. I always wondered what how Shanks was able to scare that fish.

Reading the first volumes again made me realize how much of a masterpiece it is.
