I think there was an implication that most of the older Decepticons were either upgraded (sweeps) or scrapped & perhaps used to make the fancy, new, combiner things. Perhaps, the older Autobots just weren't in any condition to be main characters on the front lines.

This is the dumbest shit. First of all, while Orion Pax may have been built (possibly, probably not) by the Quintessons, Optimus Prime was built by Alpha Trion (A3).

Their existence precedes that of the Matrix and any autobot as well as most creatures in the galaxy and their knowledge is immense and beyond most any race we've encountered in the TF universe. So why in the living blazes of metal would you need consult the Matrix for advice when you have a flogging Quint in your courtyard who is likely as old as time itself or damn well near close to.
